Able to create a custom meal and indicate number of servings

I would really like to be able to build a recipie and then indicate how many servings it makes and how much I ate and see nutritional break down by servings too.  I think it would way easier than trying to enter all ingredients then when its time to eat the leftovers I can just add the recipie serving.

The functionality in the nutritionix app is amazing. I’m guessing Fitbit uses the nutritionix API anyway, so if there was a way to import recipes from nutritionix or mimic the functionality from nutritionix, that would be amazing.

Sounds interesting.

@CindyFitbit,  Has there been any thought into incorporating a function like this?  A simple button at the top of one of the meal categories (Breakfast, Lunch, etc.) that would allow you to save it as a custom meal would really streamline meal tracking and customization.  It seems like the community would like this function too.

How do you have a food tracker that doesn't have some kind of recipe builder/tracker?  I mean, combining multiple foods into one dish that's shared among multiple people and/or is eaten at different times isn't exactly a brand new idea in human history.

Maybe Fitbit should put off making flashy new shiny aesthetic improvements and actually fix functionality for once.  Make a recipe function and figure out some way to clean up the food database so the same item isn't in there 15 different times with the exact same information...

Yea totally agree, I don't think they care as long as they keep selling
fit-bits. You only find out how crappy the software is once you've already
bought one. I've taken to just custom adding nearly everything 'cause I
don't trust the info that's in there (and I'm in NZ so not sure about some
US brands). Even then, it's almost impossible to edit info once it's in
there and I can't seem to delete old items. My Fitness Pal is far
superior. *Sigh*, my on-going love-hate relationship with Fitbit!

So many people cook recipes from scratch or just make up food, but then it's really faffy to work out the calories to add to the fitbit app. I have to use another app/website to put in all the ingredients, which then tells me how many calories I have per portion. Then I enter that into the fitbit app. It'd be great if it were possible to do all of this in-app!

Why has nothing been done about this suggestion for years?! For a massive company like Fitbit this should be NOTHING. Arent you encouraging and supporting healthy lives? That's the whole point of the brand. Yet you're one of the only ones without a recipe option? I keep seeing community comments but I have YET to hear from Fitbit about stepping up and incorporating the changes.

I’d like to suggest an edit to logging food where you can enter the Name of your meal and then add all of the ingredients you used to make it so that you don’t have to enter every ingredient individually each time you eat that meal. E.g. Spaghetti- and then list all the ingredients and their nutritional information eg. Beef, tomato paste, onion etc. and save it as a meal.

I would love the option of a recipe calculator. I currently use one on the Sparkpeople app that syncs to Fitbit but would love to see this in the Fitbit app. The Sparkpeople food database is no where as good as the Fitbit food data base and I find I have to manually enter a lot of the recipe food items. So it makes it harder and more time consuming. Plus sometimes it is hard to get it to sync.

I would like to make a suggestion to add the option of being able to add a recipe to the food section and being able to add only a portion of the entire recipe to the food log.

Hi @benjamin56 ! Thank you for your suggestion. I moved it here, with this similar one, to receive the needed attention.  Please keep letting us know if you have more ideas to improve our products.

This request goes back years, I continue to search, hoping that FitBit has listened to the requests of it loyal following. BUT unless I am missing something, it appears it is still unresolved. I do wonder, why? Why is this request not met yet? Many other apps do this. I don't want to have to run two or more apps for the same purpose. I thought it would be all in one helpful place. I am disappointed...

So, how many more of us need to request the basics that many other fitness apps provide, before FitBit listens?

I love my fitbit, just not looking forward to having to sync it to another app to get everything I need.

So far, the Food Log seems geared towards entering commercial products, but entering homecooking is ridiculously time consuming.

Your only options are to enter every ingredient by hand, every time,

or making a custom entry, but you have to calculate by hand the calories and nutrients of your combined ingredients.

That's kind of painful.

Features request:

1) ability to creat a custom/savable entry usining ingredients insdead of specs.

2) ability to scan a recipe's ingredients to log those quickly

3) adding ''generic'' food items in the database (such as ''ceasar salad'', ''bolognese spagetti''), since  those are common dishes, and homecooking is quite dissimilar (and often healthier) to comercial products. Approximate or average calories/nutrients would be used in those cases.

Please support homecooks and amateur cooks!

Also, food logging would be much easier if we could *see* the unit before clicking on the arrow or entering the amount.

Currently, we enter a number, then have to choose the unit (but if you counted it in a unit thats not available, you have to redo it, its longer than it needs to be).

Thanks!

You hit the nail on the head. That is actually what we need. I am currently using another app that will sort of do that and syncs with Fitbit. But entry is time consumingSent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone

Can I ask which app you use? (please pm me if you can't say it on this board)

I'm still doing the calculations by hand and I'd like an alternative until the feature is implemented directly in fitbit.

when i bake or cook something, i have total ingredients from a recipe.

It would be nice for the create food section to scan bar codes and add foods, then specify how many servings the whole thing is.

then I can just log 1 serving and have it saved or share it with family members.

MyFitnessPal has this feature but I don't really use that app any longer.

would like this in the app so barcodes are easier to scan.

Your current customized recipe doesn’t allow for multiple ingredients to be added hence very difficult and cumbersome to track self cooked meals. Please include a recipe builder so people like me can track frequently cooked items. Your current customization tool is crappy and prevents tracking of macronutrients. It will make a huge difference for people with different ethnic who cook their own food.

What is the resolve? I still do not see a way to enter a recipe. You can set up a grouping but it does not offer a serving breakdown for calorie calculation.
