Add Skiing/skating to Activities

Why is there no skiing activity to the activity list on device??? With GPS its a great platform to track runs. Please add soon.

Seriously, Snowboarding for me is the biggest reason why I'm about to leave fitbit. One would think this could have been implemented so easily, but every year you just keep it "under consideration" is it really that hard?

Clearly fitbit don't consider winter sports an activity. They have obviously never tried them.

I left Fitbit about a year ago in favour of Garmin. Never looked back. Even has a snowboard app.

Finally I left Fitbit for Garmin... Tired of waiting for the cross country skiing option.

I switched to Garmin. I didn't want to wait any longer for fitbit. Garmin does have ski apps.

You are correct, this is taking too long. Thanks for the information on Garmin.

Does any one know if there is a Samsung watch with the relevant apps.

Thanks

I just got my Charge 3 for Christmas but now I plan on returning it.  The idea that this thing tracks stairs and yoga but not skiing/snowboarding is a joke.

hey Garmin people, which mode do you recommend?  I only got this think to track sleep and snowboarding and it only does one of those things.

Any suggestions?

I got Polar Vantage V, 120 different activites.. a 1000 times better than
fitbit

I'm going for Suunto, read about built quality and Suunto is way better,
manually produced in Finland. I really want to give money to a company that
keeps their home factory where they belong, rather than moving to Asia.
Suunto 9 Baro, there we go 😄
Thanks Fitbit for ignoring users with 2 simple things that we asked for:
ski/snow and locking the screen

Been asking for skiing activity for over 2 years... Had enough! Polar Vantage V has already proven WAY better than Fitbit .. thanks for crap customer service, ignoring requests and poor products for people wanting to track exercise. I'll never recommend Fitbit to anyone..

I got a Garmin two years ago. All good now.

As the original Skiing Doc, and having tried to change Fitbit’s mind for several years, last year I went with an Apple Watch, and SkiTracks - sophisticated and flexible. Fitbit are just losing customers

Sadly also left the Fitbit arena- lack of skiing I could handle on its own, but with strap issues on surge and non-operational buttons, went to Garmin Vivoactive...

I’m going to jump. They just don’t care to make the app work.

Stepping Up

I jumped to Garmin 4 years ago and have never looked back. I started this thread in 2015 and it flares up once a season around this time... but never gets addressed. The Garmin lineup covers WAY more activities and the app is that much better - plus all of their devices are waterproof. My wife also switched from FitBit to Garmin. They have downhill skiing and snowboarding separately (auto removes chair lifts). It has cross country skiing and a ton of non-winter activities. There is no question the Garmin wins in the supported activities department. Either FitBit are clueless or just don't care about losing this segment of users.

Yeah, mine was a gift. Everything else I have is garmin.

I want to add my voice to the chorus of people asking that downhill skiing and snowboarding (as well as cross country) be added to the exercise options on Fitbit's Charger 3.

I looked at Garmin and it looks gastly. Now that Fitbit has been bought by Google, any chance that this issue may be resolved?

Skiing should be an activity on Fitbit!

Please add Alpine skiing in the list of activities. Currently I use Bike option in my Ionic for recording my skiing activity and found that any velocity above 73.8 km/h is replaced by this number. This restriction must be removed. In addition, I would be very grateful for any advice how this velocity record limitation can be overcome in the present version of Ionic software.

Hi @serzz, thanks for explaining why you would like to have this option. I've moved it into a similar suggestion which has been updated as "Under Consideration". You can learn more about here. Keep adding your suggestions!

How far has the 'under consideration' actually got? Many replies to my
original request and we're all still watching and waiting.

I’ve been waiting for over a year and I’m confident our request is falling on deaf ears.
Additionally, the reason I traded in my old watch was the increased battery life. The idea was to use the GPS off the iphone instead. Only problem is it could be near no other Bluetooth signals to interfere for it to track location via the phone. So it worked only one time when I was out in the country cross country skiing miles from anyone. They have addressed zero of these problems. Major disappointment.

Indeed. Lots of people liking Garmin but they are so expensive, especially
when you have a device that should do the job.

You all talk about Garmin.. have you even checked out Polar? They have a
wide range of products and Are high up in tests all the time... Their top
product is 450$ not 600+$ that is Garmin...
