If you (say) live in mountainous terrain, or run up heaps of stairs as part of a Run exercise session, then tracking and displaying the number of floors would be more useful than distance:

Best of all, this should be trivial to arrange because floor are being tracked anyway, outside the scope of a particular exercise session -- no ?
