Adding Cross Country/Backcountry Skiing to exercises

This suggestion is to add Cross Country Skiing as an activity on Fitbit Charge3. Skiing is one of our main activity half of the year in Norway and it would be great to have a specific activity option for just that.

We have been raising the issue for years, without any action. Very disappointing! When you track as jogging, you can chance it to cross country skiing in the app. But there is no save button. So it jumps back to jogging shorty after. It is strange Fitbit don’t address this easy fix issue!

Can’t believe Fitbit doesn’t have app to monitor XC skiing. It is the main form of exercise I get in the winter.  Just got a Fitbit as gift and I think I’ll return it.

With the pandemic, lots more people are outside nordic skiing (cross-country skiing) which is a great aerobic exercise. I would love to see this added!

Hi @Mamaoftwokids. Thanks for sharing this suggestion about adding cross-country skiing to the exercise shortcuts with us. This idea was already requested in the Feature Suggestions board, so I’ve moved your post here. Cross country skiing, yes please! Half of the year that's what we do when we're outside in Norway.

Had I known that cross country skiing wasn't an option, I probably would not have bought my Charge 4.

Yes Please .... also need distinction made between SKATE cross country skiing and CLASSIC cross country skiing - as there is a huge difference in terms of aerobic output.   Skiing is an almost daily activity for us here in South Central BC - especially during a pandemic.

Just a follow up to my earlier comment...... I tried VOTING for this post on adding Cross Country Skiing to the Charge 3...but was unable to do so. Clicked on the thumbs up and it says I am ineligible to vote?

Hello,

It's been more than 2 years since the request was made in this thread. I would love to use my Versa 2 for cross country skiing, but it still can't do it for me. I love my Fitbit, but frankly, if it doesn't do what I want, why would I stay with it. I am considering jumping ship to another platform that does it. Please add cross country skiing 🙂

In general, there is a huge queue of features and functions people want from their solutions, and I fully understand that producers cannot accommodate all these requests. Users often don't understand that implementing features has knock-on effects that make a seemingly insignificant request require a lot of behind the scene changes and updates.

Having said this, implementation of Cross Country skiing would require a new picture for the activity and then the rest is 100% identical to running. So not implementing this could not possibly be something that would take someone more than a few hours to implement.

So given the very small effort, and high number of requests over a longer period of time, not implementing it is just ignorant 😞

As Fitbit does not have a feature that allows us to track Nordic skiing, whether classic or quite different, more energy-intensive skate skiing, I'm going to have to leave the Fitbit community which pains me as I've had two Fitbits. I think Garmin will be my text purchase. I wish Fitbit would add Nordic skiing because it's an exploding sport that so many people are doing.

It continues to astound and disappoint me that FitBit has ignored the many requests to add cross country skiing to its list of exercise options. I don’t know of any way to get their attention other than this FitBit Community site. Either the powers-that-be at FitBit don’t read this or don’t care. After Jessie Diggins was the first US woman to ever win last week’s Tour de Ski there are more and more people getting their winter exercise on the skinny skis.

I read this thread I'm surprised at how long it takes for you to come to a decision to add cross coutry skiing to activity shortcuts on trackers. Two years to consider if this is a valid suggestion. LOL.

Still using my old Charge 2 tracker but planning to upgrade. Probably to a brand that can handle XC skiing.

I like it a lot. Cross country is a great form of exercise. I discovered it when I was young and have been a passionate fan on it ever since then. I have been going to different ski resorts and in the mountains in general twice a year. With the pandemic i had to stay home and honestly it took it's toll on my both mentally and physically.

I was actually supposed to go to Turin this winter but with the pandemic and the quarantine situation in Italy I had to abandon that dream trip and look for something closer to home (because if I miss another ski season I will go crazy for sure). Since it's been a while since I went to a local ski resort and I had no idea which ones would be open I decided to look online for advice. And that was when I came across bluehouseskis.com. it's sort of like a guide on how to choose the best ski resort as well as some tips for people on how to ski and snowboard. I found it very helpful to be honest. I booked a 10 day trip at the end of February. Hopefully everything will go well.

I've waited two years for Nordic skiing on Fitbit, and my Versa 2. Planned on buying a Sense or Versa 3, but ended up with a Garmin watch to use when skiing and off-road mountain biking. Looking forward to finally get good exercise results on Strava.

Just became a fitbit user this month, and was so excited to track my activity on my Versa 3. I'm very disappointed that it doesn't track cross country skiing, my main winter activity! Had I known, I would have chosen a different brand. It never crossed my mind that such a long established winter sport wouldn't be included (but a sport like golf is)?! Such a let down.

We'll, FitBit was recently purchased by Google, so let's hope they devote some of their programmers to resolve these long standing exercise deficiencies.
