Allow Offline syncing / Store data locally

I think you should be able to sync with your phone and then upload data at a later date. Let us store data locally so that an internet connection is not required to see current stats.

I agree with the observations that you should be able to perform any tasks on the DEVICE without internet. Why not be able to set alarms, change timezones etc? Again the issue is that all data/settings are in the cloud and without it the device is useless by design. (to be fair they could fix the app)

As a comparison, although I have a fitbit flex, I bought a < $20 no name device and it has no cloud of its own (you can connect it to g**gle fit if you want) so you can do all that easily. It is not the greatest but I can see my data as long as it is near my tablet (I don't have or want a smart phone) and it has a watch/steps display.

I believe fitbit wants to sell the entire experience, which isn't a bad business model. However I would prefer if the cloud was not needed for every thing I need to do with/to the device

I would love to be able to sync without internet connection.  Being in the Navy, I am underway for months at a time with zero chance for internet.  Therefore, I log hundreds of thousands of steps that mean nothing for my overall totals when I'm out at sea.  To be able to to locally sync with my phone, and then with fitbit servers when we hit port would make this a huge plus for anyone in the military.

Thanks!

@tyler2786 thank you for your service.

I hope Fitbit sees your post and predicament.

@tyler2786  Yes thank you for serving (I was USCG myself 40 years ago)

Fitbit should 'support the troups' by allowing you to return the device and get one that allows you to sync w/o internet (they'd need to refund your money since AFAIK they offer no such device). A serious oversight in my opinion

@Boblepp  That's too funny!  I agree.  It wouldn't take long at all if the programmers had to live in the world they created.

@Rpbj1979 @timnixon I tried the iWOWnfit which if I understand correctly has the same guts as the veryfit.   I really really wanted it to work but it kept resetting mid-day.  Some people have good luck.  For 20/30 bucks what the heck.

So the issue I have is with the setting the time zone.  I travel overseas often enough that this has become a major issue for me, both with my former Surger and my new Blaze.  When traveling over sea I do not have internet service in my IOS devices on arrival.  Without internet I can't sync to change the time zone.  This makes the watch useless when making connections in different time zones.   Can you make it possible to set the time zone on the Blaze without having to sync or have multiple time to select on the device without sync.   Traveling overseas with the Fitbit device is challenging because few of us have international data service on our cell phone and wifi hotspots are not always available.   Please.   Manual set the time zone without having to sync.......

I still love my Blaze! but it does have room for improvement.

One of the very desirable "features" of so many electronic devices these days is a find-my-device option when it gets lost or stolen. Of course, some sort of "connection to the collective" IS required to make this work. Given that my Fitbit works more than 99% of the time FOR ME, I would give up that 1% functionality to know that anyone who "found" my lost Fitbit would be traceable. I will just need to remember to bring another device when exceeding the boundary design limitations (Cell service, with internet, required).

Another MASSIVE public health feature would be reporting of user stats as they change over time. The Resting Heart Rate and Sleep Time/Quality are BIG ONES. If I could get everyone's Fitbit statistics, I could generate reams of worthwhile statistical analysis on health trends. I would imagine one could even track viral distribution (and R Naught) with this info. Advanced degree candidates for the life sciences would love this data! Of course real time acquisition would be of the utmost importance; delayed reporting would yield almost useless analysis for any rapid deployment scenario.

I've added my Thumbs Up and I'll go ahead with adding my words as well.  I simply can't figure out how such a simple feature request started around 4 years ago, but still hasn't been addressed.  We've got smart phones with plenty of memory - I can't imagine my stats are going to take up too terribly much - please do an offline option. 😕

Right on @ilkirk.  With my extra micro SD card I have hundreds of gigs of storage.  From your lips hoping someone hears, but not holding my breath. Good luck.

Please help to push this idea forward by contacting Fitbit support via email or Twitter. Fitbit want you to post your ideas here but they don't seem to take any notice of them.

As a new fitbit owner, I'm whole heartedly agree that one should at least be able to set silent alarms, etc. (which requires the phone app) without an internet connection!

But seeing many years this thread has been going for, they don't seem to be especially motivated to provide this basic functionality. Is there some way we can put more pressure on them to notice/address the issue?

Fitbit devices should have the capability to sync data offline via Bluetooth and have the stored data uploaded and analyzed at a later date when a network/WiFi connection becomes available.

The inability for the Fitbit to locally store data on a smart device is extremely unfortunate. I conduct research to improve physical activity for people (civilians and Veterans) living with complex, chronic, disabling conditions. People living with these types of conditions are commonly marginalized and unable to access the internet. There is great potential of using the Fitbit with smart devices that are non-LTE enabled, but the inability of the Fitbit to locally store physical activity data limits the feasibility of its use.

Hopefully Fitbit will consider adding this feature for those who do not have internet access.

brossow, I would not say that we don't have offline syncing  because of FitBit's inability to implement it, it's more like FitBit's unwillingness to do this. Thousands of people have been asking for this functionality for years now. If FitBit cared just a little about what users want, this would have been implemented long ago. As another user of this forum has said it, FitBit only develops functionality that they think is necessary. They just don't listen to what users want. This whole forum here is just to give us the false impression that they care... but it seems that they really don't.

Hello. I did just bougtha fitbit flex 2, i am pretty happy. But i miss the functionality to use the device without internet access. So the feature to be avable to sync and use the device offline with my phone.

And when my phone get a connection it syncs the data, that already have been synced to the phone, to the main servers.

thanks in advice.

It doesn't matter whether there's one thread of a thousand.  Fitbit ignores them all.. Since they're always connected, the current system works fine for them.  They don't care about other people's needs

This thread technically is not asking for a sync to the phone but asking if the phone can be a temporary storage until an internet connection can be made.

It might be tyat the developers need to rewrite 3 different and the server. Technically im not sure what or how much is involved for this to become a reality. With the exception of one tracker, all models have storage for 30 days.

As for tye suggestions gound here, almost every update feature plus the idea of an Alta HR came from this board.

It's not about storing data, Rich, it's about being able to use the functionality we paid for. Without a data connection, there's no way to turn quick mode on or off, no way to set a silent alarm, no way to even change the time on the device (how useless is a watch that only shows you the time from halfway around the world?), and no way to review the data that's been collected. ALL the data the Fitbit collects has to go through the app before it goes to the servers.

As for suggestions, it seems like only about 2% of suggestions have made it into the app or the devices. There are literally thousands of votes for features that Fitbit has ignored, some for years.

When travelling, there are times when you change timezone and don't have internet connectivity. This could be when flying internationally, travelling remotely, being on a ship/cruise etc.

Right now, there is no way to update the time on your Fitbit to set the correct local time without having an internet connection. This means you're in the situation where the watch functionality of the Fitbit is useless!

Please implement a way to allow you to change the timezone of your watch without being connected to the internet!

I am also a person in the service with long periods of time away from being able to connect to internet/Wifi.  Offline syncing of data would be very usefull.  I know it is possible, I used to be a fuelband user but I've broken so many of them it was time to try something new.  Unfortunatley only being able to store 7 days of steps does me no good.  I spend months away from connectivity.  Please update the app so users like me can still get a use out of your product.  Thanks!!!
