I think you should be able to sync with your phone and then upload data at a later date. Let us store data locally so that an internet connection is not required to see current stats.
Synchronization only (exclusively) the application (the phone) and the Fitbit Charge 2 between.
Why can I not sync the FitBit Charge 2 and my phone (FitBit application) between without an internet connection? Only the telephone and the FitBit Charge 2 between, with the cloud is not. In theory, the FitBit Charge 2 and my phone synchronization between the there is no need of a servers connection. The data can be stored temporarily in storage of phone. My phone is Samsung Galaxy S6 128 GB. This certainly enough, but the temporarily may be stored in much less space too.
Just got the Charge 2, like it overall, but am VERY disapointed that I don't have access to the device without the internet... even to basic features like simply seting an alarm. I can see no technical reason for this, please fix this, it's a bug, definitively not a feature!
Another thing I've wondered about is starting a new thread, linking perhaps to this one. Get this thread to the front page. It's very difficult to find, ie. invisible along with its activity, so it's easy to ignore.
Is this possible, or will the moderators shovel any new thread onto the old one?
I hate to make this next suggestion because it may let someone off the hook, but perhaps we should also separate the request to be able to change time zone, set alarms etc. via the app, from the request for syncing and local storage. I'm guessing the latter may be more difficult technically, and it would sure be nice to get at least some of these ridiculous limitations fixed!
Disagree entirely, seeing many of the posts over the last 3 years both are equally important - what is more other manufacturers manage to achieve what we are asking for. The solution will probably to pick a device from one of those since FB don’t seem interested.
The only option for me now is to switch brands. In the new year I'll be needing a new one as this one's been through a lot and it's gonna need replacing. The Charge HR has been a decent all round activity/sleep monitor but I don't feel listened to so I'll vote with my feet. Good luck guys:(
I dont think this should be an or-or choice. If you go somewhere without Wifi acces - which is still half of the globe - you should be able to store data on your phone, and then, when connected to wifi sync it to the cloud.
Big issue while climbing to the "Top of the Bottom" (Vinson Massif).
I beat the "snot" out of my Fitbit Charge HR during the last 12 months. The excessive angle of the band/electronics housing interface eventually led to fracture of the electronics housing after repeated (almost daily) removal of sweet using a bath towel. Corrosion quickly set in and the unit started malfunctioning beyond use. On my way to the Antarctic, I purchased a Blaze (HR) in Santiago, Chile. The Blaze DOES NOT have the same wrist band "angle" problem the Charge HR did; great mechanical engineering guys! cool looks and a more rugged overall design.
Now the real issue. My cell phone was intentionally left behind at base camp. No need to carry a cell phone when there are NO CELL TOWERS anywhere within a 5 hour flight distance to where we were. The Blaze was originally synced and had the proper time going into the expedition. However, lack of repeated charging AND sub zero temperatures led to "no power" conditions at several times. THERE IS NO WAY TO SET THE TIME/CLOCK MANUALLY on the Blaze after a "no power" shutdown. After recharging, I could see my heart rate, I could see how many steps I had completed, but I could not tell what time it was. Simple solution - ADD A MANUAL TIME ADJUSTMENT screen. Should be a straight forward fix. I really like the Blaze.
The other irritant is the real small battery charge indicator. It is almost impossible to see in bright light (24 hour sunlight at that latitude during the NOV-DEC months)
Not sure if this was me or something intrinsic to the Blaze. I could not get a Sync going when I did not have an internet connection to my cell phone. I.E. IN ORDER TO CHANGE THE TIME on the unit I HAD TO HAVE an internet connection. Am I missing something?
I really like the Blaze. Just a few software tweaks will make it a champion accessory.
FitBit, keep up the good work! You are encouraging the population to get AND STAY active. . . in style.
This is very appealing. I have been on an ocean cruise outside the US where I've turned off cellular/data access to avoid roaming. On a 2 week cruise it would be nice to have the option of buffering the detailed data in the phone until you return to cellular coverage.
The fact that an internet connection is necessary for synching is not only annoying whenver internet is unavailable. It is also going to be the one reason I will not recommend fitbit to anyone and should my device break (or another opportunity arise), I will shop around for something else.
I am not only having problems when there is no internet, but also with my work's wifi and other slower mobile internet connections. It is more than ridiculous that there is not even the option to synch without an internet connection. It is basically fitbit saying: As long as we don't have your data, you can't have it either.
I was redireced here when I sent my complaint to fitbit through twitter. So making an individual complaint about it will not help at all. I agree with Cidi, I will not recommend a fitbit to anyone as long as this problem isnt solved.
I have a flex2 and the tracker itself works fine, the app just isnt.
The server synced data is also not correct. I'm in a challenge with my wife and the stepcounts we see from each other are not what we have as steps. Even when we're sitting on the couch and syncing on the same time....
You would expect that when you force your users to sync to a server that the data would be correct....
I work in a area with little to no cell phone signal for a few weeks at a time. I have noticed that my watch will eventually display the incorrect time and I am unable to change it without the app. Suggest adding a section in settings on the watch itself where you can set the time.
Commenting with hopes that this feature request will get some more attention from a moderator....
Military personnel often go many months (i.e 6) at a time without Internet access for their smartphone/tablet. This means that data stored on the trackers can get overwritten due to limited memory before the data can be uploaded to the cloud.
Military personnel also change time zones frequently. But web is needed to update the device's time, alarms, etc.
Without Internet access, military personnel can't use many of the features of Fitbit trackers.
Recommendation:
Fitbit should further investigate how folks in the military can still benefit from their devices during long deployments with degraded Internet situations.
Leaving on another cruise and will not have WiFi or Internet for 5 days. I had issues when we were on our Panama Canal cruise with many time zone changes and Fitbit One and Flex2 not getting correct time. Fitbit is making a lot of changes to encourage customer use and loyalty and total ignores this issue. Very frustrating.
