Auto pause

Can the firmware and app be updated to have an auto pause feature for when you stop to cross a road or tie a lace during workout and walk and run etc. That would be fab.

Yes. Please add auto pause. It can't be that difficult as all the other devices have the option.

Keyword "auto" pause. As many have said, will make pace more accurate. Especially when running in areas requiring frequent stops. Or when you forget to manually stop the tracker after a run 😉

I've been really hoping for an auto pause feature for quite some time...hoping an update is in the near future for all of us!

Just started using the track run feature in Fitbit. Love it, except it's missing a few features other running apps have. Auto pause, and delay or countdown start would really complete this feature. I'd never want to use another running app if these features were available.

Auto pause feature is needed

Fitbits are not competitive with other Apps

Would like to have my gps enabled workouts able to auto pause if possible. I'm sure this will probably be implemented at some point in the future, and most likely has been requested as well... but I just wanted to request in case it haven't been yet. You guys just keep on constantly improving. Awesome. Fitbit is great.

thank you.

We have received some encouraging words from Fitbit but still no action. They say thank you for being patient but after three years and with almost every tracker on the market, most at a MUCH lower price, all having this basic function my patiences is getting a little thin and am ready to move on to a another tracker with auto-pause.  But Fitbit do have nice bracelets which appears to be their priority not their firmware!

I spent a year away from the Fitbit using other devices and apps.  I just recently acquired the Fitbit Surge specifically because of the device's support for bicycling:   "Fitbit Surge lets you track every aspect of your training. Use multi-sport modes for ***the most precise tracking*** during workouts and real-time stats on display." - https://www.fitbit.com/surge#slide-4

After purchase and use, I was surprised the Surge did not have such a simple feature as autopause for bicycling, when each and every app I used over the past year had it.  Without the auto pause, the Fitbit gets the average speed incorrect therefore unreliable - not quite the "most precise tracking" results in the real world. At the very least, it can be a bit embarrassing to even use the share feature for a workout if during the ride I happen to come across a lot of signal stops.

I would love if while tracking exercise there was an auto pause.

Hi Fitbit Moderator,

Any news about auto-pause resource? The difference between FitBit data and other apps (like Strava) is huge! I am almost stop using my Blaze for Cycling...It's very frustrating to verify that your training data is totally dispensable. Could you fix this problem?

Fitbit, really? Wtf, it's 3 years already, lots of bull**ahem** talk from moderator and still no such basic function as auto pause? I chose wrong tracker 😞

Hi FitBit,

It would be a good idea to have an Auto-Pause feature on all FitBits, because right now the clock keeps going even if you are stopped at a traffic light while on a run. This is especially useful when running as it prevents the user from needing to press the button to pause often during a workout. An Auto-Pause feature will be helpful especially when using connected GPS so you can get accurate pace information. Maybe have it so that you can turn Auto-Pause ON or OFF.

Thanks!

So I've finally ditched my Fitbit Surge. I need a watch with built in GPS and I am so totally sick to death of there being no auto pause function. After all of these years, I can't for the life of me understand Fitbit's reluctance to add this feature? I've endured so many partial recordings of bike rides where I have manually stopped my Surge at traffic lights etc. and have forgotten to restart it. Fitbit has now had ages to put this right and has point-blank refused to listen to it's customers. Well, I have voted with my feet and have purchased an all singing, all dancing Garmin Fenix 5X with all the features that the Surge has, plus many more, including being waterproof and having the 'auto-pause' capability. Sure, it's much more expensive than the Fitbit, but there are many other cheaper Garmin models that have the auto-pause option.

It's a great shame that Fitbit has steadfastly refused to sort out this much-requested feature. However, that's your loss, Fitbit and I am now looking forward to many miles of cycling with a wearable that fully addresses the needs of its customers!

Auto pause is a critical cap in capabilities. I run with my dog and stop frequently as he smells the roses, I golf which has many pauses and stops for t shots and putting, and on my bike waiting at lights. I can't get an accurate picture of my speed without this feature. I use the maul pause but many times forgot to turn it back on and then I've lost the sessions data.

Huge gap in capability. Desperately needed for this to be a system I stick with!

Please add this feature as soon as possible! All applications I tried on my iPhone have this functionality except the Fitbit app (and the tracker).

Agreed that after all these years this is definitely a must. I have recently switched to using Strava to GPS record my rides because of the faulty GPS tracking of Fitbit, and the auto feature has been my best friend because I have a few minutes of getting things together after starting recording/traffic lights that I don't want in my ride.
I do have the integration between Strava and Fitbit going, but that means that I don't get the live data of tracking on my watch..
When is this going to happen Fitbit? It's been a couple of years, not like you didn't see it coming.

I think it is very simple.

Fitbit is not a Fitness tracker.  It is a pedometer that measures your heart rate.  Fitbit is focused on the non critical fitness user who wants to track steps, measure heart rate, sleep and expand it towards things like sleep apnea.  That is the 80% market share (or more).

They would focus on improving it as a smart watch and go after the Apple Watch.

What this thread wants is a fitness feature used by <10% of users.  The common person using Fitbit doesn't care about pausing.  Those who care about pausing uses some form a Garmin anyway.

If any of these fitness requirements is important to you - look at a fitness watch that focuses on these, any of the Garmin or Polar devices.  There are much better solutions available there (including my Garmin Vivoactive HR, which I switched to after being disgusted by the Blaze, for those requirements).  Note that they are all not perfect, for instance, I had to add a Scosche Rhythm+ HR monitor to be able to accurately track my HR during HIIT / Crossfit, but the Garmin allows you to attach extra sensors to fulfill their shortcomings.

I really do not see Fitbit ever fixing these.  Even if they fix this, the pro-ish crowd will ask for more features.

If you approach Fitbit like you approach an apple product - does it solve 80% of its use cases well?  If it does, that is all they will do well.  If you fall in the 10-20% bracket, go get a device that solves your need.

I'm sure Fitbit appreciates you telling their customers to buy a different product!
