Bring the old food log interface back.

It appears that the food log input format changed today (2/13/18). Has anyone else noticed this, or is it just me? The new format is much more cumbersome in my opinion. I prefer the original format. Any input/comments/recommendations welcome!

Glad to know it's not just me. The new food log is horrible!! It is cumbersome and slow!  I wish they would talk to users before implementing drastic changes . Maybe offer options.. old log or new, which ever best suits your individual needs!

I totally agree about the food log.  In addition to being too busy it takes longer to log food.  Mine switched back to the original style just a few minutes ago, so perhaps many of us are unhappy.  In any event, thank you Fit Bit.    My philosophy is if it's not broken, leave it alone.

After further review of the new interface and using it for a few days, I
tried to give it chance and thought I could overcome it being so
cumbersome. Upon logging in this morning I was pleasantly surprised to find
the better interface back. Thanks for complaining everyone !!!!

The log must have changed throughout the morning for me. I logged my breakfast as normal and then went to log my morning banana and it had all changed - or really regressed to what looks like an html/slow load version, I can't believe it's an "update".

A huge thing for me is being able to distinguish between my consumption of natural sugars and "free sugars", and the web version was so useful for seeing a breakdown of each individual item in a meal, in particular for their sugar contribution. It helped me to see how much sugar was in products I didn't realise such as bread. However, now you can only see carbs in total and no sugars! You can see overall nutritional information in such a crude way by clicking on the item and you get the packaging label format, which really doesn't look professional anyway. In addition to this, it shows you per "serving" which is ridiculously arbitrary anyway as you don't necessarily know the serving size (may have thrown away packaging, decanted into other method of storage, may not be logged correctly on FitBit as it doesn't explain what said serving is), and you used to get that FULL break down per ingredient in the old log which was much neater and easier to understand. I doubt many people will use this nutritional labelling format as a way of informing them fully, this is why a lot of individuals used the web view log in addition to/instead of their smartphone app!

Essentially I am just quite upset with this change. As far as I am aware and judging by the comments this was not needed and has clearly affected a lot of people trying to monitor specific aspects of their diet, as well as affect the meal tool. I shan't echo other comments as I feel they have been expressed already, I wanted to mostly express my concern over sugars as this is so important to me, and I'm sure to many others.

Please seriously consider bringing back the old log, or as suggested a toggle option for those who do prefer this view. A lot of paying customers are affected and upset by this.

Thank you if any FitBit Moderators do read this

WOW I should have read all 8 pages of comments before posting, I'd only read the first few! Seems I joined the online logging when it was in the new format, assumed that was standard and actually really loved it, especially the sugar addition. I guess I'm showing both sides of the coin here, perhaps introducing that the toggle option is best after all?

As a general smartphone user I think it's a lot more user friendly and less clunky, but that's just my personal opinion. You can't please everyone....

@maddiesinc Hi sorry im confused we should be currently on the old log which looks like this - it loads quicker and what a lot of the people on here wanted to see again

food carbs.jpg

this is only temporary if this is what you are now seeing , once some bug fixes and errors have been rectified it will prob go back to the newer log which is what all the complaints were about ,

the new one looks like this and takes ages to load but does show a sugar total

b cass.jpg

this currently does not show a serving size so it could be cup, grams, slices, cubes, etc and you need to open up the ingredient to do anything but takes longer to add foods and if you edit anything it goes through a lengthy sorting process - hopefully its these things that they are going to sort out as well as changing the big graph at the top hopefully to a drop down or under the logging section

I apologise if I have miss-understood your comment

I personally prefer the top one but have suggested a compromise (best of both) in the feature suggestion pages (link is in a previous comment on page 7 at time of writing)

im just a regular user that wants clean and quick logging instead of being able to make a cuppa while it loads and full functionality is paramount there where a few things missing from the bottom (new design) that needs to be revised IMO

Kind Regards

YAAAYYYY!! Thank you for bringing back the old way! I literally yelled "yay" alone in my apartment when the old logging page came up. Please oh please oh please don't make me go back to that other way! It might be fine for mobile, but not on a computer.

THANK YOU AGAIN!

@ashwolve Thank you so much for your reply Wayne! You have absolutely understood me correctly, I thought we had swapped from the app-style view to the old-style view in the first image.

I am currently seeing the first image, and as I said in my second comment I must have joined in on web view only after the update had come through, having used my smartphone to log for 1+ years.

I must say I have had troubles with the app, e.g. typing in a food to add then it deletes what I'm typing and I have to do it 3 times, same with adding a food I've had before and changing the quantity (I don't always have 60g of oats in my breakfast for example!) So, this was a breeze for me and that could be why I haven't noticed the lengthy processes, as it's so much smoother than my app anyway.

I've had a look at your proposal and I think your suggestions are great. Hopefully the new format comes back with improvements to make everyone happy, if that's possible?!

@maddiesinc Thank you for your reply and for taking the time to view my suggestion,  I also noticed that if I logged a food on my mobile then opened the second view in my post the cals were wrong even though the totals were correct for example if I logged beef at 345 cals in lunch on the new view it would have 340.45 then I would have to go to edit it and check the size ie 80g then save again for it to correct itself and on other occasions it wouldn't appear at all but the total was still in the daily total column so I think that's what they are trying to sort (well I hope they are).

if they continue to listen and positively re-act to our suggestions I am sure we can make the new version acceptable to all parties inc those that champion the old (me included lol)

all the best

What a pleasant surprise - as others have said, just like an old friend
returning! Kudos to the Fitbit - I've said it before - one of the best
customer service teams out there. So nice that they actually listen to
their customers.

I am glad the old log back. However, I hope they do more thorough testing, with consumers before instituting new log that is cited as needed. And again- the one they tried to use for replacement did not work on apple ipad. So the testing needs to be for all devices. And it was evident all agreed that the graph on top was useless, not wanted. The new log needs to be as quick in use as the old one, on all devices.
Thank you for bringing back the old log- for now.

Very happy to see the old food log back, if only temporarily. Hopefully Fitbit progammers and developers will be able to incorporate ALL of the 'old' food log and it's many, many easy to use functions.

For instances, I hope they include the ability to be able to choose between percentages and fractions on all foods. For instance a 0.33 serving results in a different calorie figure than does a 1/3 cup serving. Granted it's not much of a difference, but if one consistently has to use the percentage system, the calorie, fat, protein, etc. is going to be off. That could be very important to some of us!

So, here's hoping for all good things to work across the board no matter what piece of equipment is being used. I'm a home computer web-based user who does not own a smart phone and have no intention of every purchasing one. Surely they can make this work across the board. Fingers crossed!

I have been miserable all week with the new food log. It looks like they brought back the former log today. Please don't change it again. The new one made me  so unhappy, I failed to log several days until the next day. It did not allow me to log 1/2 sandwich, a common food log of mine. It made me select the meal every single time instead of assuming that I was recording, for example, the components of a lunch. Thank you for bringing back the older format.

Susan

After a couple days with the new food log, I was really enjoying the crisp look of the new format and particularly, the weekly average summary.  Now, today, back to that old mess.  I know change is hard, and it takes awhile to get up to speed; but here's my two cents:  Let's keep moving forward.  I liked the newest version of the food log.

@HFG Change is hard when the new system doesn't work, this page is a feature suggestion to bring back the page that is currently showing for those that do not like the new version , however could I point you in the direction of the main thread which has more news and updates on what it happening if you haven't already found it https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Fitbit-com-Dashboard/New-Food-Logging-Page/m-p/3297833#M93299 here the Moderator has mentioned that this is only temporary while they get it to a workable stage again - ideally when they intended to release this newer version it would have been appropriate IMO to run it alongside the older version for a few months so these issues could have been found and sorted without hindering the functionality to it customers - fear not it will come back after a few more changes -

the main issue was the big graph at the top most people wanted to just go on and log food without being faced with an influx of information that the have to scroll past so it was suggested that they relocate it further down,

I personally prefer the current model after trying to navigate the newer one and finding it took upto 4 times longer to do anything and that's after the amount of time taken to load the page - I am not however opposed to change and have thought up a compromise between the 2 versions that could keep everyone happier you are welcome to take a look, comment. vote should you feel it may a more friendly page

Suggested new food page Format

hope this helps

Kind Regards
