I purchased FitBits for myself and my dad for Christmas. He is elderly and has been trying to get more active since having surgery. I thought it would be a great idea to get us each an activity tracker. We could challenge each other and "oh, what a great idea!" But after my purchase I discovered we can't do that because he doesn't have a smart phone! what??!! what a waste of money! How disappointing
People have been asking for this feature for at least a year... it really makes no sense that you cannot do this via the web and only from the app. Why won't you allow this? All it is doing is upsetting the people who would otherwise love your product... but then they find out that they can only do certain things via the web? Just poor form...
I'm not sure why I'm receiving all the emails based on the thread I posted on. I am not a developer.. I am part of the party that would like to be able to view my challenges on my laptop version of Fitbit app. Dear Fitbit.... Let's make 2017 a good year!!
I bought my dad a Fitbit so he could participate in challenges with his kids.. got it all set up with him when I was home for Christmas and invited him to a challenge... Now all the kids are back at their respective homes and trying to help him make this work. I'm SO FRUSTRATED that the laptop app doesn't do challenges!! Please change this!
Ok. This is exactly what my mom has on her laptop (Win 10.) On hers, it seems to be an installed program, but when I install it now on a different PC, it redirects to the website. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but still the same, everything re-directs. Have your had yours installed for a while? We installed hers last December (2015.) At this point, I'm telling her DON'T update anything or it may go away. 🙂
I've installed and removed the app a number of times. The email link will take you to the website, rather than to the app. That creates problems. Must open the fitbit app, and not use the email link.
Why can't we see Challenges on the desktop? This has been 'under consideration' for over two years now? Come on FitBit, get on it. I come to log my food and water and would like to see how I am doing in the challenges. Thanks
As other folks have pointed out... You can install the Fitbit App for Windows 10 and access the challenges there on your (desktop, laptop, or tablet) computer. Are you not able to install it?
So they have enabled only a portion of their people to do this. Oh great. What about the rest of us that don't have windows 10? I am a Mac girl and will never go back to a PC. Just add it to the tiles on the dashboard already.
@DebMcGrathID, are you running Windows 10 on the different PC?
If so, click on the start menu and type 'Fitbit'. If you have indeed installed the Fitbit App you should get an entry with the Fitbit icon, called 'Fitbit' and with the description 'Trusted Windows Store App'. Select it.
Once that's running, you'll have to log in (if you're doing it for the first time). Once you do that, you'll be able to participate in challenges.
The reason why it works on Windows 10 is because Windows allows you to run the tablet applications on desktops and laptops (without any extra work from Fitbit).
If the Mac allowed iPad apps to run, you'd already have this feature. You may want to ask Apple.
And I believe bootcamp allows you to install Windows 10 on your Mac.
I'm just trying to get the most people unblocked. This feature request predates the availability of the Fitbit App on Windows 10, so the number of votes is a bit misleading.
While I understand that the title of this thread is literally to make the challenges available on the website, I believe that the spirit of this feature request is to get folks access to challenges who otherwise would not have access to them...
I understand that Apple allowing you to run iPad apps on your Mac is not the same as Fitbit adding access to challenges on the website. However, is not as if Fitbit is slighting or ignoring Mac users...
So effectively, your statement that:
"So they [Fitbit] have enabled only a portion of their people to do this."
Is not really accurate. What is closer to the truth is "Fitbit created an app for iOS, Android, and Windows tablets" and Windows enabled it to run on their desktops and laptops as well. Case and point, there is no way to compete in challenges on Windows 7.
Incidentally, that little device that you're responding from (by virtue of your 'Sent from my iPhone' signature)... It also has access to challenges.
YAY!!! Status is under construction!!!! That means the programmers at FitBit are working on a solution!!! Right?! Awesome! Challenges are a great way to introduce some playful competition, as we positively motivate each other in our friends groups to keep stepping, keep active. Thank you FitBit programmers for taking action with this!! Looking forward to some updates to dashboard so people who don't have the phone app can enjoy the challenges too! Thank you
There is no need for the snarky 'that little device' junk. I and the others know it is an app and yes, I know how to install it on an iPhone or an Android device and most of the others here probably can as well. However, I want this to be available ON THE WEB. You see, that way, I can access my challenges when I don't have my phone (and I don't carry it around constantly) and even when I don't have MY computer with me... even though I run Windows7 and there is no 'app for that', if you will. That way, I can check at the library, from work, from my parents' or children's homes. Anywhere I can access a web page... so, yes, Fitbit HAS enabled only a portion of the people to access challenges. Not everyone has access to the devices or OS necessary to access the full feature set. All they have to do is plug a little portion of the code into their webpage... it would be easy... but they CHOOSE not to.
I am not sure why you're so defensive of Fitbit unless perhaps you work for the company.
