Change the iOS notifications settings

Well if anyone is having issues with their Fitbit and getting text message notifications on your device it seems that since the update you need to go into your settings - notifications - messages and make sure show previews is set to always on. I personally do not like this, nor have you had to have it set up like that in the past. I don't know about you but I don't want my messages sitting on my phone screen for all to see just to get them to show again on my Fitbit. I think that this is something Fitbit needs to look into quickly, you never had to have show previews set to always before.

Hi @emilyalvarez. Thanks for taking the time to explain why you'd like to receive notifications on your watches without having the show previews setting set to Always with us! This feature suggestion already exists, so I’ve moved your post here. Don’t forget to click on the thumbs-up to show your support.

It's extremely disappointing that I now have to put my iPhone messaging notification settings on "Show Previews: Always" in order for my messages to appear on my Fitbit. This was not the case when I first got my Fitbit. I work in an office where my co-workers are constantly near my desk or hovering over me while we work on different tasks. It's not ideal for my message previews to appear on my phone while it's sitting on my desk. I initially liked that I could discreetly read my messages on my Fitbit if I needed to. I hope that this feature is changed back to the way it used to be. Otherwise, I'll be looking at a Garmin.

Hi, any updates on this setting being changed? I just got a Charge 4 and was excited to get text notifications but really dislike that I have to change my preview settings. I do not like previews coming up on my phone due to privacy concerns.

That is the only way that I am able to receive them. I got it to just say the name instead of the whole text message but I didn’t even have to do that before.

Allow text notifications to come to Charge 4 while preview notifications are set to “never”. Even if it just says “New message from *contact*” without the message available to read on the Charge.

@VersaErica do you remember how you got it set to at least display that you have received a text? That’s better than nothing!

I would like to receive text messages from my iphone to my fitbit without having to have notification previews on the lockscreen. This is a huge privacy issue.

I too use my phone for work purposes. This seems like an invasion of privacy and I do not like this one bit! We should not have to have the “show preview” on in order to get text alerts on our Fitbit. Please fix this or I may just go elsewhere

1) I agree it’s a huge privacy issue…I don’t want my messages popping up on my Lock Screen for all the world to see. I mean what’s the point in having them show up on my Fitbit if they have to be on my phone in order for me to see it. The whole point of having them on the Fitbit is to make it more convenient to view your messages if say your phone is in your pocket or your purse or perhaps in another room.

2) I figured out a slight work around, however. (I have IPhone 13 and Versa 3 for clarification) If you set the message preview to always or when unlocked like it says you have to do BUT turn OFF the Lock Screen alerts in the message notifications settings, you’ll get the message notifications on your Fitbit BUT NOT on your phone. Matter of personal preference but for me, I’d rather have the notice on my Fitbit. For me it works the same way as my email alerts…getting them on my Fitbit not my phone. Still an issue that needs to be fixed though

Seems this big privacy issue has been ongoing for 3 years now with no resolve. Continues to be an issue between iPhone 13 and Versa 2 where text notifications do not come through to Versa 2 unless phone notification settings are set to “Show Preview: Always/When Unlocked”. I do not understand why there can’t be a fix to simply notify you that you got a text message from [contact]. Would love for this issue to be fixed to avoid considering other options besides Fitbit.

This is the major reason I went to another brand of watch. No resolve
period. Just make a suggestion to the developers. I loved my Fitbit, but
that was the main reason I got it.
Good luck
