Disable tap function so Fitbit device screen won't turn on at night

My Charge 2 turns on during the night when I sleep.  Quick View is turned off and there is no option in the app to disable "Tap" to turn on the display.  I've also found that the screen will light up sometimes when just going about my business.  Seems like some minor vibrations also erroneously activate the screen way too easily.  It used to take more effort to activate the screen by tapping.  Now it seems way too easy.  I would like to see this feature added to help me (and others) get some sleep and so that we only see the data from the screen when we "want" to.  This will also help save battery life and lead to recharging the unit less often; so this could be a "green" initiative too.  Does that help get this approved?  =^)

Hi @moosecat thanks for this suggestion. Unfortunately, Ionic doesn't have turn off tap to wake, but I have a few other updates that impact the topics you've outlined:

  • The dim setting on Ionic has been adjusted to be dimmer than on Blaze (auto still remains which adjusts based on ambient light)
  • You can turn off notifications during sleep and exercise

I will leave your suggestion open so others can vote/comment and we can pass this info on to other internal teams. I understand this is not the same as quick view, but if you did want to add a comment to that suggestion which has momentum, you could suggest the same logic also applies to tap to wake.

Thanks

Hello,

Thanks for the response. So what you're telling me is actually that Fitbit has just saved me $300 🙂

Being dimmer might help, but I don't think it will actually fix my issue. Notifications while asleep are not an issue for me. I typically have them turned off, but even when on I've never gotten them at night (probably because my phone silences them). That said, the fact Tap to Wake remains an un-toggleable feature means that, if it's anything like the Blaze, notifications will inevitably get turned back on and disturb me during my work day.

I'll comment on that feature, but I'm not hopeful considering how much time has passed on that request, and how much time has passed with the Blaze being a "sleep tracker" that disturbs your sleep. If it takes a popularity contest to get a feature implemented, I've already lost.

I have the same issue, only mine is in the shower. I like to wear mine all the time but the hot water in the shower turns it on and starts scrolling through and changing stuff. It should be an easy enough fix to disable it if you want... So why not? Easy fix and make lots of people happy.

So much yes!!! So glad you said this. How do they not understand this is so ridiculous, demeaning and just plain stupid as a customer to an expensive health product company. So glad to know the company is some silly popularity contest!!! With no real progress in over A YEAR when all it takes is one simple change for someone to implement. This is absolutely different than "dimming" or just "disabling at night" it need to BE DISABLED AT ALL TIMES IF WE WANT IT @LizFitbit so don't try to pass it off for some other change or feature we want! That is pathetic!!!

That is not what we want. We want to be able to disable this feature 24/7 not just at night

Exactly, any adult should be able to understand what we're saying but instead we just get patronized like we're children.  thank you so much for your comments spinsky

I would like to see an option to disable waking up the screen with duble tap. Many times I can see screen on because I've hit something with my hand on gym etc. I feel that using physical button is sufficient for myself.

What do you think?

Please, please, please, give us the ability to disable the "double tap to wake" option.

You've given us the ability to turn off the raise to wake...that's a good start. But I really really really want to turn off the double tap to wake.  At night, it lights up the entire room if the fitbit detects something which registers as a tap....and it wakes me up.

Fitbit keeps lighting up at night even if I have disabled the quick view option. This wakes me up. Very annoying. Please allow us also to disable the tap to wake and the double tap options.

Hi @LizFitbit please be aware that raise to wake and tap to view are completely different features.

Please do not merge ‘tap to view’ and ‘raise to wake’ threads together.

I don't care for the double tap feature. It continually turns on at night when I'm not actively double tapping and wakes me. I'm using the device to monitor sleep. I'm considering returning this. Such a good product, but so frustrating when you look at your sleep stats and there's actual evidence that the fitbit woke you up because it turned on lol. Would like the option of choosing to turn the feature on or off in settings. This seems like it would be simple as the 'auto on' feature can be disabled easily.

Thanks

Me too, the wretched bright light wakes me at night, there needs to be a way for it to have a night mode and auto, matically dim or switch off the display during a user-set time period. I see many people have been asking for this for a while - I need it as of yesterday!

When will there be an option to disable any and all motion-based screen wakes? It’s annoying, distracting, and just serves to run my battery down faster.

@erth64net,

This already exists.  It's called 'Quick View'.  Disable it under your device settings.

@PureEvil Nope, practically any movement still turns on the screen for me, with Quick View disabled.

Please allow us to deactivate the tap to wake function. My quick view is turned off but I now cant wear my Fitbit at night because it wakes both me and my husband with not much movement. I never use the function anyway. Charge 2. Thanks!

Once I've turned quickview off, their is absolutely no movement I can make to turn it on. I need to tap/touch the screen or tap a button.

Comments in this thread are abundantly clear @rich_lau, even with quickview off, many people can still get the screen to turn on through movement, some of which the FitBit perceives as a screen tap. What people are asking for, over and over again, is a way to DISABLE ANY AND ALL MOVEMENT BASED SCREEN ACTIVATIONS (primarily at night, but others desire an option to disable this at all times too).

Period.

Why is this such a difficult concept to acknowledge?

Call it naïveté, but I still want this feature implemented on my Charge 2.  I have not slept with my Fitbit on for nearly a year now because of this problem.  It does not speak well of Fitbit that they would abandon software/product updates so quickly.  That means they will do the same thing even if you upgrade to the "next best thing".

Alta HR is blinds me when I wake up in the night and move my wrist around.

There should be an option to turn of display or control brightness in the night.
