I, too have been disappointed that my data is effectively trapped in the Fitbit dashboard. My goal with the Surge was to be able to track runs without carrying my phone. Being able to sync with another service like Strava or RunKeeper should be a no-brainer. As others have indicated, GPX is the minimum, but TCX is the way to go. Otherwise, why do I have a Surge?
Today, I've still got to carry my phone to (double!) track the run if I want to be able to perform historical and trend analysis. Without correlation, the heart rate data is pretty useless except as a curiosity. I can do all of this stuff with a Flex and a smart phone. With a current iPhone, I don't even need the Flex!
I too would welcome the ability to export GPX files. I use MemoryMap software to log my walks. Being able to transfer data from my Surge would mean I didn't need to use my hand held GPS to do this and would save the amount of gear I have to carry!
Any updates on this? I see that the status is 'still New'.
I want to have all my activities in Strava too, so I'm really looking forward either to Strava integration and/or exporting the data in gpx format. Anything we can do to speed this up? It doesn't seem complicated. Thanks!
I am particularly interested in sharing the heart rate data to runtastic and strava just like other bluetooth chest strap heart rate monitors. Integration is the key to gaining customers from all markets. I won't buy a fitbit hr until this feature is added.
The main reason someone would buy the Surge is for the GPS. The main workout option on the Surge is "Run". I would imagine all Surge users want to be able to benchmark their running progress, option of run specific data, miles/km per month, analysis of month on month stats, PB'S, average pace of all runs, maybe even av heart rate. I would either suggest that Strava and Fitbit re fully integrated (I have heard this may be happening, though not sure on the depth of the integration.... hopefully not only steps counted - not interested in that), so all stats/analysis available to sync over to Strava, OR Fitbit develop better run-specific dashboard to enable better analysis.
All of the data must be there within Fitbit, that's the hard part... surely it must be reletively easy to develop the systems to allow better running progress analysis?

It would be great if you could export HR/Step/KM data to either a time-stamped .FIT or .GPX file so it can be combined with video/GPS data using a tool like DashWare (which can import .CSV, .FIT and .GPX files, amongst others) and render guages as overlays for video captured on something like an Action Cam (e.g. the Sony AS100V or Garmin Verb+, which geocodes the video stream in real-time). For those of us who want to crow a little about our achievements, being able to consolidate all of the available information into a video format is a cool way to do so.
As an example of the kind of output I'd like to add HR/calorie data to, take a look at this...
I've found a topic on exporting GPX data. I on the other hand would like to import gpx data to fitbit. At the moment the fitbit trackers aren't great at tracking cycling workout's. Being mountainbike or regular cycling. I use a Mio cycling gps to track my route, speed, cadance, height, .... I would love to import this data into my fitbit.
Hi everybody, I am very excited to announce that users are now able to export their GPS data in .tcx format on Fitbit.com. To do so, go to your activity logon Fitbit.com, click the "View Details" button on your GPS workout, click the button with three dots on the top right-hand corner, and click "export a tcx file" from the pull down.
Many of the other specialty apps out there such as AlltTrails.com will export their data in either TCX or GPX format. It would certainly be nice if I could import one of my rtecent hikes into my FitBit dashboard.
This would make my surge the perfect purchase as I could on the odd occasion upload exercise data when my surge is on charge and I use an older device...
Very good idea! I have about 30 activities writing years ago with SportsTracker app. I can export its to GPX but cannot import into Fitbit account. Manyally log are good, but GPX files contain also route! It would certainly be nice if I could view my old activities (famous places and sughtseeing around Europe).
