Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

I doubt they ever will support this. I'm hoping they don't then I'll have a excuse to buy something else while my current Fitbit works fine.

I have stopped hoping. I have moved on. Maybe Fitbit will face karma in court against Jawbone.

Listening to your customers is only half of it.  With such strong demand for the feature you should be implementing it.  Not sitting on the sidelines staring at angry customers.

It's such a simple feature to implement it's baffling they won't do it.  It's clear that it's a business decision, not techincal.

If you or someone you know recently bought a Fitbit, return it while you have the chance.  If you bought it online, leave product feed back on your frustration.  I did that, I went to Amazon and warned others not to buy it.  Go on social media and do the same.

To date I have convinced a few people to buy something else and I won't stop until Fitbit gives in. Ignoring angry customers is never good.

Is there an API in iOS Health?

I'm fiddling around with FitBit's API and I can already extract my data with an Android App. If there's an API in iOS, the App should be able to upload there the extracted FitBit data. It won't be native support from FitBit, but it shouldn't be hard to do it.

There almost certainly will be but whether you have to be registered as a developer to access it I don't know, or what terms and conditions there are. I'd be interested in what you came up with. I know there was sync solver but I'm not sure that is still around.

Sync solver worked for a bit, and then Fitbit broke it.  They fix it, then Fitbit breaks it.  It's an arms race all because Fitbit won't listen to customers.

Personally, I think this is something Fitbit doesn't want to do because they prefer to own YOUR data so that they can sell it or make you use their platform. Why else would they keep changing the API to break Sync Solver? I left the Fitbit ecosystem when the Apple Watch came out and joined the Jawbone ecosystem to track sleep. Fitbit keeps stating that they are not losing sales to Apple Watch so I guess I must be one of few. 🙂

My blood glucose meter company, which always said they no plans to integrate with Health Kit (but was the only meter covered by my insurance), just released an update. First line in the update notes. Health Kit integration. 2nd line a blurb about why, because they listened to our suggestions. And this is company with a captive audience. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/onetouch-reveal/id651293599?mt=8

And OneTouch Reveal needs to maintain FDA approval.

To give you an idea about how committed Fitbit is to even thinking about this - the current iOS is 9 not 8. I’ve spent the last year communicating with friends to think about alternative devices (there are many) that are integrated with Fitbit.

Hopeful Runner, please for your own safety stay away for the OneTouch meters. I purchased the Verio Sync over a year ago, it normally reads about 40% high. I have compared it with two different AccuChek meters, my iHealth meter and tested with the same blood draw used to be sent to the lab from my dr's office. They finally sent me a replacement meter and it reports even higher readings. These tests are from the same finger **ahem**, so the same exact sample. The other night the Verio was over 100 points higher then the iHealth meter. Dale

Just got my Surge today and really disappointed with the fact it does not sync with Health app. Should have been here before making decission to buy it. For sure will discourage others to buy from FitBit. Agree that the issue here is money not technical issues to build a sync module. Our data worth lots of $$$ so why to share it with Apple.

@som_vl - If syncing to HealthKit is important to you, I urge you to return your Surge while you can still get your money back.  Use the refund to purchase a product that does sync.  FitBit is in the monrity by not syncing to HealthKit.

The most recent message from FitBit is that they have no plans to integrate with Apple HealthKit.

Since the Fitbit app doesn't integrate with Health I'll be going to some other device.

I would like to see integration between Fitbit and the IOS Health app.

I see a lot of comments here and very dissappointed about this feature. The only reason for buying charge HR is builtin HR feature, so I don't need to place my finger in my camera over and over. But, as iOS user, without integration to HealthKit app is useless. Even there's no third party app which is capable of syncing HR data. Moreover, I can't leverage my charge HR with strava and thermos smartlid at all. But they still list them as compatible apps.

Personally, I hate to export my data to the cloud, no exception for fitbit. I prefer to save my personal data in my personal devices. I used to dissallow network connection for fitbit app. But I just realize that fitbit need to upload my data to their server and then sync 3rd party app to my HealthKit app.

It seems I need to wait for another activity brand which support HR and sync to HealthKit app and then sell my charge HR. Hopefully, garmin vivosmart HR will be available in my country next year, it's waterproof. But this charge HR isn't waterproof.

It's been 100 pages but still no decision. Bad support fitbit.

Is it possible to sync steps from Fitbit one to the Health app on newer iPhones?

@mommyof4ms It's nice to have you here! It's not possible to sync Fitbit to Health app.

I found this post where someone mentioned that he used Sync Solver to link both apps. However, I can't confirm that this works properly because it's not an official integration yet.

Hope this helps.

Are there any plans to integrate FitBit with upcoming iOS releases?

No there won't be. This has been going on for two years, over a thousand requests at least and 111 pages. They have no plans at all.

I will be moving to an Apple Watch at Xmas if there is no response from Fitbit. They obviously don't respect their customers enough to provide them with an honest answer, so why give any brand loyalty to this company!
