Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

@SGriff, if you haven’t already noticed, this request has been the top request for the last 2+ years. It's been totally ignored by Fitbit so far.

Apple’s HealthKit software framework is openly available to all Apple iOS developers (Fitbit is an Apple iOS App Developer). Fitbit has chosen not to integrate for the last 2+ years that HealthKit has been in existence. Other companies like Nike, Garmin, Withings, Under Armour, to name a few, have no problems developing their apps and fitness trackers to integrate with HealthKit seamlessly. Not only that, many of them have now written apps for the Apple Watch as well.

Fitbit’s decision not to integrate with HealthKit is Fitbit’s alone (not Apple). Your loyalty with Fitbit is admirable but misplaced. Fitbit has no such loyalty towards its customers. It’s clear that Fitbit has not intention of integrating with anyone now or in the future (witness Fitbit’s recent withdrawal from integration with Microsoft’s Health Vault). Curious to see how much more time you’re willing to wait for Fitbit to integrate.

For this reason alone I won't be purchasing a FitBit beyond my scale. The only reason I purchased the scale is the 8 users and guest feature. I like having my weight tracked but not having it available to my family. I have weight issues and encouraging myself doesn't need to involve sharing my current weight.

I was planning on getting a wrist device but I currently have a Galaxy Gear S2 Classic 4G. No need to switch if I can't integrate.

When You are add sync between Fitbit and Apple Healthkit?

Just found out about Apple Health with my new iPhone7 and IOS10.

Very disappointed to learn via this forum that FibBit has no plans to integrate FitBit with Apple Health like so many other fitness products have/are doing.  If this position continues, I will soon replace my FitBit with a competitor's product.

While I appreciate the suggestions on work arounds via Microsoft and other platforms, I don't want a klugged up solution.

Please help me save lots of mine and continue to use my surge to update the ios app to share data.

It does Not report now. If it cannot share data soon, I will have to purchase a Garmen Fenix Bravo And use the garmin App. I like my surge, limited as it is. Please help me save $600

did you complain near Apple ?

are you sure it's a Fitbit problem ?

Yes. My comment on the fit book Facebook page verified that the Fitbit software or APP available for iOS is not yet designed to integrate with the Apple Health APP. Nike, Garmin and other device manufacturers have taken the time to make their iOS applications integrate with the Apple Health App. It would be nice not to purchase a new device, even as enamored as I am with the Fenix Bravo Jumpmaster.

Yes, one would hope to get a response from the software design team, but alas, the last sales person (in another venue) I felt with sold vaporware and the programmer coded what he wanted in the dark. Customer service was left cleaning up the aftermath. Sad, it's basically a good product, though it would be nice to have one where the vendor would say it was accurate enough for health purposes and not a "non-medical" instrument. But at least integrate with one of the largest market share phones.

Fitbit integration with Apple Health: a must to have! All competitors have this...

It's obvious that FitBit aren't going to do this (which seems awfully short-sighted of FitBit) but I still thought I'd add my vote.

I inherited my FitBit from someone who wasn't using theirs, so it didn't cost me anything, and if Apple Health integration doesn't appear, I'll switch to another platform - no loss to me (it's my first "proper" tracker, in the past I've solely used the footsteps tracker in my phone).

Edit : As for "what do I expect to get out of Apple Health integration?" : interaction with other Apple Health apps, and *my data* stored on my device (I have no problem with FitBit having a copy).  Since apparently you've got to pay extra to export your data from FitBit, I'm guessing this is one of the real reasons why integration hasn't appeared yet.

Please remember there are several ways of doing this

  • Fitbit can send the data to Apple
  • Apple can retrieve the data from Fitbit
  • A third party, such as IFTTT, can write an app that will retrieve the fitbit data and send it to apple.

It does not need to be fitbit to do this, apple can do it just as easy as fitbit can.

But apple doesn't make Fitbit. On the other hand apple does make Apple
Watch looks like that will be the replacement. Which is unfortunate because
I like fitbit, the support is great and I really have no issues with the
device or their own app. I do like the convenience of a one place to look
at all my data one of the reasons to shift to apple ecosystem.

*Um, no Apple cannot do it. FitBit does not share their real time HR meter
data with any third party at the moment, nor do they have an API to access
the accelerometers directly thus giving the ability to track particular
movements . This is simply a gamble FitBit took to be the one app to rule
all the health apps. It lost. Apple, Google, Microsoft all have their own
health apps, and Fitbit is a wearable device creator along with about 20
other reasonable companies and 5 or 6 startups that came out of nowhere to
play a little disrupt, where fitbit was 4 years ago. *

*But, if Fitbit continues to innovate and stay ahead of the curve, yet
not integrate with the default body data collection point of the modern
masses. They either need to come out with something to be that default
collection point, or they will cease to be relevant and become
a niche product, and a low priced one at that. *

But everything points to Fitbit Doubling down on it.

This would make me consider buying another Fitbit in the future, but the lack of integration at the moment has me leaning towards purchasing a different brands products.

The only way to get things going, rate the app/product in app store and write about the fact that there is no Apple health integration.
