Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

I am very disappointed to learn that you, Fitbit, have changed your mind and decided not to do HealthKit.  Previously, Fitbit made public statements saying they intended to incorporate HealthKit because Fitbit believed in opening data and making data more available to improve health - which is why, you said, you had opened up to other apps like MyFitnessPal.  Of course I can't find that quote now because you probably deleted the post just like you deleted your negative tweets and FB posts today.  This is signalling a total shift in your strategy that I don't support.  I bought your products because you had an open data policy which meant I wouldn't be locked into the apps I can use.  I bought your products - I didn't buy data lock in.  If you don't change this policy quickly and adopt HealthKit I have no reason to continue using your products - knowing you'll hold my data hostage - and I will sell my FitBit products.  You've really destroyed my trust in you as a company at this point.  Very very disappointed in you.

Just wanted to add my name to the list of annoyed customers.  I've had 4 fitbits over the years and have been a loyal advocate since the early days of the company.  I was planning to carry on with my fitbit and wait for the second generation of Apple's Watch.  Fitbit's announcement has instantaneously changed my opionion - Q1 next year I'll be buying an Apple Watch (with Healthkit integration) and my fitbit will go in the bin.  So long and thanks for all the steps...

Odds are this is down to a clash between Fitbit's business model - selling your data - and Apple's privacy requirement on Healthkit info

Either way, this is a huge misstep for Fitbit, granted I've moved to using the iPhone 6 as my tracker, since the Force has failed to be replaced in the "soon" timeframe given when it was pulled.  However I love my Aria and want that data to be available to Healthkit, without going around the houses.

Anyone looking for an iOS tracker will now be looking at Healthkit integration as the number one feature.  Fitbit have just struck themselves off those lists.

I am disappointed in this decision.  Integration with Health App will be a factor during my next device upgrade cycle.  I've purchased 5 FitBits (2 for me and 3 for family members) over the last couple of years.  If you integrate with Health App I will without hestiation get another FitBit.  If you don't, I will shop around.

One more voice to the general disappointment. I will probably move away from Fitbit, despite loving it for the last 3 years. I have a Withings Scale, so might change to their step counter. Or wait for the Apple Watch to be released and give up on fitbit altogether

I have also recommended successfully Fitbit Ones to at least 8 people... Wouldn't anymore.

Please reconsider!

Fitbit, please reconsider this decision.

I was disappointed to see that you hadn't even addressed HealthKit integration (at least publicly) until after iOS 8 had been released.  You've had access to HealthKit information for months.  We were all excited to see our devices incorporated into the new HealthKit umbrella, and it was a huge red flag that you weren't ready to go on day one.

I am even more disappointed that you are choosing to protect your premium revenue at the expense of customer experience.  Your customers' experience.  I get it.  Your premium service is probably high margin.  And your hardware is probably lower margin, relatively speaking.  And you're probably afraid that your users will use your low-margin hardware and get health analysis from your competitors.

So instead, you choose to isolate your ecosystem from the HealthKit ecosystem.  What a lazy and short-sighted decision.

So here's what's going to happen.  Your users are going to abandon you in droves.  You are chasing off what have been a satisfied and loyal customer base.  Maybe we didn't all sign up for your premium service.  But we bought your hardware and we advocated, vouched for, even cheerled for your ecosystem, because we loved the hardware.

But now we are faced with a decision to make.  Do we keep your hardware, and manually enter our weight, bmi, sleep data, and step data into HealthKit manually?  Or just live within your narrow world view? Or do we jettison your products and move on to other platforms that see the bigger picture and more highly value their customers?  I know which way I'm leaning.  And either way I'm not signing up for your premium service.

Innovate or get left behind.

Signed, a formerly satisfied family with three fitbits and an aria, all of which feel like craigslist/ebay fodder all of a sudden.

It is amazing how I went from years of feeling great about Fitbit, checking daily for a Fitbit app update that would include Health Kit integration to now...loathing the company entirely just based on this one move.  If you do not support Health Kit you might as well not exist.  Harsh but true.

Only just found out about this after reading a post on TUAW.

Fitbit SERIOUSLY you are kidding me - how short-sighted is this - I'm sorry, but unless this changes this will be my last product from you.

Hopefully some clever chap will come up with an IFTTT script to post my Aria scale reading to my Healthkit dashboard - mind you when Fitbit inevitibly go into a downward spiral by NOT adopting Healthkit will my Aria suddenly stop transmitting my weight readings one day.

Might just stick the lot on eBay.......

FITBIT Please reconsider!

Fitbit w/o IOS Health means I'm no longer a user.  As of today I will be removing my FitBit.  My wrist is already feeling the relief of life without a FitBit.

Next step, review the fitbit app and give it the appropriate number of stars. Can you give zero? Nope seems like one is as low as you can go. Oh well consider yourself fortunate MisFit.

I can't tell you how dissapointed I am in hearing this. I looked for the updated FB app everyday since Healthkit was released assuming Fitbit would of course add this function. I mean it's a no brainer right?

So between no communication what so ever about a new Force or a suitable replacement and then this news I am done. It's sad cause I used to be your biggest fan.

Whoever is in charge over there is surley ruining the company

Good luck

I've been looking forward to getting a Fitbit band since I've been satisfied with the iOS app and tracking health stuff, but I've been waiting on news for HealthKit integration. However, since I've read the news that Fitbit will not be supporting Apple Health, I'm going to purchase a Jawbone Up24 instead, which does support Apple Health. Sorry, Fitbit, you fell behind and it's cost you this customer.

Please update to sync with the ios8 Apple Health.  This is going to be a great tool moving forward and was suprised you weren't already onboard with it.  I don't always have the ipone 6 in my hand or pocket but I do always have my flex on.  I like the consolidation of all the information in 1 place.  I really like your product but think there are a lot of people like me who will move over to products that sync if you aren't going to do it.

I own a several fitbit one, and a fitbit aria. and I have gifted a few fitbits.

without health kit integration, my next purchase will be from a company that does. I'll vote with my money.

thanks.

Oh wow, seriously disappointed to have backed the wrong horse.  Wish I'd gone for Jawbone's offering now, which DOES integrate with Health.

Can not fathom why Fitbit would decide against integration, doesn't make much sense!

Bad decision Fitbit.  As a user since the original Fitbit, and I have owned every Fitbit since, I will walk away easily now.

"We do not currently have plans to integrate with HealthKit."

i.e.

“AppleWatch is going to put us completely out of business, so we’re not doing any free work right no...

So long fitbit, it's been fun...

I will add my voice to the rest of the chorus.

Fit bit going at it alone against HealthKit and the iPhone.....do you really think you stand a chance?

if Incan't get to use my data the way I see fit (sorry...), then I will actively be looking elsewhere.

Think again, please.

I would also like to specifically see the Aria sync data into the HealthKit app.

I guess this may be the reason...

Please support Apple Health Kit as well. Exclusivity sinks the ship nowadays!

Love my fitbit force and *was* looking forward to the next generation device.  I would like to see integration with iOS 8 and Apple's Healthkit And Health App.  Without that integration, my next Tracker won't be a fitbit 😞

I too would like to see integration wih health kit. Without it I will have to move to another device.

I would also like to see my Aria data in health kit. Really I want to see it in Weight Watchers. IT has Health Kit Intigration. Every week I type it in. It was the only way for it to work. I had a scale that worked fine but I liked the idea of being able to track my weight over time with little effort. Would like to see that data free to be used in other apps. Not just forced to look at it in your app. With over 800 posts from your users who want this how many of your users would use it if it was there.

My real question is why wouldn't you intigrate?

Do you really see people buying your product when you don't and others do? I really don't get it.

Wow, how disappointing. My partner and I be voting with our wallets unfortunately, I like the Fitbit but it is not so unique that we can't get what we want elsewhere. Very disappointing.

I'm actually very resentful the Fitbit does it integrate with the HealthKit on my shiny new iPhone 6. Boo Fitbit!!! Was planning on purchasing 3 more for other family members but unless this update comes out will go with a different tracked that does!
