Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

Well, this was a surefire way to get your customer base pissed off at you. Congratulations, FitBit!

Come early 2015 and your company will be completely irrelevant. If you honestly think that your brand is stronger than Apple...good luck. Once the Apple Watch comes out you are not going to have a leg to stand on. Could have built up some customer loyalty and willingness to integrate...what's that old saying..."Join or Die"?

Add my name to the list of people who will be getting rid of their FitBit devices once the Apple Watch comes out.

@Markmcd @nutmac I don't think there's any correlation there.

@GoOutside Absolutely. We're attentive to this.

@Alacaeriel A good deal of our development resources are invested in the next-generation Fitbit.

Get with the program.  I have an aria and a flex ( i started with a one)  and have influenced many people to get a  fitbit!!!   I hope you don't let us down.  I  know ios is not the only system, but this is what we use.  We were the ones to support fitbit until you finally got it ready for the other platforms.  We should not be told that you have others to consider because if we had not supported you in the beginning, we would not be having this discussion -- you would have failed!  Please be as loyal to us as we have been to you.  Thank you

I didn't mean to "yell" with all caps.  Did not want to rewrite my remarks when I saw my caps lock was on.  Sorry

Wow, I'm currently searching for a new fitness tracker and was considering going back to fitbit, but there's no way I'd ever do that after this kind of announcment. What a ridiculously bad decision!

Bye bye Fitbit!

C'mon, Fitbit, it's a simple process of allowing your data to be shared in HealthKit. Tell you what, if you don't add this feature, I will QUICKLY abandon your platform. I like your service, but lack of interoperability with non-competitors like Apple is a simple ask, and the fact that you haven't done it yet shows that you're just not interested in sharing in the sandbox...

It is disappointing but not surprising that FitBit believes that they own our data and feel comfortable controlling what we do with it. As more apps that consume data from HealthKit pop up, FitBit will have to change their mind, or people will migrate to devices that are allowed to hook into a larger eco system and benefit from its network effects.

Quite disheartening to hear that HealthKit isn't on the roadmap.

Ideally, I would like all my health information centralized. The actual Fitbit app is great at showing raw data, but it's worthless in terms of how to apply that data, or how to make positive changes to affect your health. There's tons of apps that do a great job at it, but it's painful for both developers and users to have to integrate/allow permissions for Fitbit with each of these apps. It would be much better to have everything centralized.

A great example of what I'm talking about would be Jawbone's UP app that they released a week or so ago. It grabs the information from HealthKit, and gives you real feedback on how to improve your health. I would love Fitbit to make something like this, but in the meantime, not introducing HealthKit integration seems like a massive slip-up.

How I envision an ideal HealthKit integration to work...

FitBit Trackers will feed data into the following:

  • HealthKit -> Fitness -> Steps
  • HealthKit -> Fitness -> Flights Climbed
  • HealthKit -> Fitness -> Walking + Running Distance
  • HealthKit -> Fitness -> Active Calories
  • HealthKit -> Fitness -> Resting Calories

Aria scale will feed data into the following:

  • HealthKit -> Body Measurements -> Weight
  • HealthKit -> Body Measurements -> Body Mass Index
  • HealthKit -> Body Measurements -> Body Fat Percentage

Benefits I'm hoping for:

Integration into a larger health tracking platform can help users getting a bigger picture of their overall health and progress towards their goals.

Well add my name to the ever increasingly list of angry Fitbit users. Fitbit has really shot themselves in the foot with their refusal to impliment connections to Apple Health. Like so many others I have decided to abandon Fitbit and move on to another tracker. I have chosen the Misfit Shine as my new fitness tracker. I especially like the fact that its water proof so I can use it while swimming!

Bye bye Fitbit!

Another vote from someone who would like to see this functionality. Also I am sure I am like many other users and will not hesitate to move on to another tracking platform that supports this feature.

I have two questions for Fitbit: You say, twice, that you are listening, you are actively reviewing responses and providing feedback to our product development team. How about answering a bit more than you have.

1. Okay, if your are listening, what have you heard in the 50+ and growing pages of responses in this thread, and similar responses elsewhere on your boards--notably the feature request thread. Have you, for example, heard, yet, that this is a feature that your iPhone users overwhelmingly want and have use for? (if not, what would it take to get you to hear that?)

2. Are you seriously reconsidering? Can we hope for a reversal of your position anytime in the near future? Your users do overwhelmingly want this feature, and we have eplained to you in some detail why. So, what is holding you back?

I'm hanging in there for the moment. But I won't stay much longer without more real evidence that you actually are listening. Just saying "we are listening" isn't good enough.

Show us.

I have decided to replace my Fitbit One and Aria with Withings Pulse Ox and Body Scale. I will not beg for the rights to use my data.

From what I've read around the site and on several tech sites Fitbit isn't integrating with Apple's Healthkit. After having been burnt (literally and figuratively) by the Fitbit Force and having a generally lousy Customer Service experience (I also own their Aria scale) the lack of integration with Health would be the last straw for me. It's unfortunate, I really enjoyed the Force, despite the fact that the caller ID feature failed to materialize before the painful rash. Integration with the Health app will guide my future purchases. I want a single, comprehensive app (Apple's Health) that integrates the data from all of the tools and other apps I use. If Fitbit products don't meet this criteria, I, and I suspect many others, won't be purchasing them. I'm in the market for a new tracker, you know, since the last one didn't workout, 'Health' integration  will be one of the key factors in my decision (i.e. make your decision and execute Fitbit).

Watch Healthkit as it matures?  How about you watch me chuck my Fitbit in the toilet and flush?  That's where it is going unless you integrate with Healthkit.

I am also disappointed with the inability to interact with healthkit.  Tnis may motivate to consider another device that does

Well ... this is quite disappointing and the explanation as to why is, frankly, rubbish. Can't say I'll be recommending FitBit trackers to friends or buying them as gifts anytime soon.

What does the lack of integration tells us? That Fitbit isn't proactive, but reactive. It isn't future and feature oriented. It isn't concerned about bringing even better devices and interfaces. Fitness tracker users are tech lovers by nature and we demand innovation. Let's hope that other companies can bring that to us.

Dear FitBit,   I would have stayed with you if you had given me some insight into your plans to integrate with Healthkit , but with nothing but "waffle"  I can see you are not customer focused ......  you leave me no choice as  don't want to stay on a decaying platform.

Bye........

Well, you integrate with Microsoft HealthVault

I think you can integrate with Healthkit...

Plus one on native Apple HealthKit integration. It can link-in other biometrics FitBit might not choose to monitor. Trying to do all is the Microsoft way and a recipe for mediocrity. Integration and federation are the future. 'Looking forward to another way to appreciate my Fitbit One!

I am very interested in accessing my Fitbit data in HealthKit. I like one common interface, having all of my health data in one place, and the overall integration that health kit allows. I would certainly move to a different sensor if that is what it takes to use health kit. I don't think being a 'late mover' is good for Fitbit. People will move.

To remain in the health and fitness game, Fitbit needs to strongly consider integration with Apple's HealthKit. All other health and fitness product apps are already using HealthKit. I'd prefer not to look away from Fitbit but if it has to happen, this will be the downfall.
