Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

My force has been wrapped with electrical tape for months holding it together (the band is falling apart) because I really, really didn't want to part with it and send it back in for the recall.  I was holding out for the never-to-be released vaporware "new" product that FitBit lied to us about and told us was coming "soon" (back in February).

But after this announcement, I'm returning my fitbit, getting my refund from FitBit, and taking my money elsewhere.  Couldn't be more disappointed with FitBit's handling of the Force replacement and lack of HealthKit integration.

I like Fitbit most becuase It integrates with Virgin Pulse.  The integration with Healthkit would only enahnce the experience for IOS users, it should not be viewed as something that is not necessary.  I would seriously consider abandoning Fitbit if the refuse integrate with Healthkit.

This should have been a focus long before IOS8 even launched.

Good grief FitBit! Get the iOS app integrated with the Apple Health App.  I dont care what you do with the Android or Windows apps.  I have used my FitBit Zip for quite some time but have no problem dropping it for another option that integrates with the Health App.

Today I read that Apple is making moves to remove Fitbits from thier store shelves.

I've owned 4 fitbit ones. Laundry got my orginal, then I lost another, the dog actually chewed one, and my current working one.

I've also talked 4 other people into getting fitbits after showing the value.

I have multiple applications/device combos on my phone for health, some work better then others.

Myfitness pal for weight loss and calorie management.

Fitbit, for walking, activity, heck I even use it for sleep and alarm.

Aria for weight tracking and automatic updates.

Digifit and polar heartrate monitor, for lifting and biking exercises that fitbit isnt perfect for.

Withings blood presure monitor for blood presure.

In 3 weeks time I have seen all my other fitness apps update with intergration functions. All of these but one are now working with Apple Health as a single dashboard to all my health data. Not only that, I can create connections to data that between the apps that was never before possible.

So putting yourself in my shoes for a moment, what is more likely? I stick with Fitbit and manually enter data that I want to into a single health panel app? Or just let you drive me right into the arms of a new device sooner then later, if this pissing contest you guys appear to be having with Apple continues?

I dont attempt to understand the internal workings of this relationship, but what I do know is this. Your existing customers are the ones suffering for this decision to not intergrate, so not only will you likely lose new customers to other devices that work just as well, but you will lose those existing customers who have sung your prasies for years.

I hope who ever is driving that ship over there has a very clear view of the path ahead, because I'm sure the Apple Watch looks scary, but I'm guessing theres a large group of possible customers that dont want to spend that money, or have that brick on thier wrist while trying to get fit. But without allowing me access to share (MY) data between Healthkit and other apps, you've made finding a new device my priority.

I ask that you reconsider, I stongly believe you have a large group of existing customers out there that are very disappointed in these recent decisions.

Ok Fitbit... Time to find your spine... If you aren't going to integrate... Just take the hit and get it over with... Even if you come out with the coolest new product on the planet... You are pissing off part of your customer base so badly that they would not touch your product with a barge pole or may be you just consider us to be expendable...

but we aren't... the apple watch will be expensive and there are a lot of apple fans who won't want to pay out that much for a wrist unit... You were supposed to fill that niche... But apparently you are bailing... I guess that we aren't worth it.

Please make the Fit Bit app integrate with the Apple Health app.  It really would make my life easier to not have to enter the same information into multiple platforms.  Thanks!!

I'm considering to sell my Aria and both my Flex and buy a different and more innovative wristband.

If you don't change your decision you'll lost a lot of users.

Are FitBit social? Yes. So... what do you think will happen if users will lose a large part of their friends due to you choice? They'll move somewhere else.

HealthKit is useful: all the information in one single app.

FitBit you're killing yourself.

Being a diabetic, I am looking for a central repository for all of the data I track. Blood glucose meter, scale, fitbit. HealthKit is the best solution I've seen and I'll enthusiastically abandon any of my devices that aren't compatible with it. Please support it! I'll really miss my fitbit.

I can't say if the decision is right for the company, maybe it is maybe it isn't. I know it is wrong for me. Looking forward to abandon my force. The aria scale will remain, since I can type the data in health app once daily. But when it fails, I know I won't buy another from Fitbit.

I personally am surprised that Fitbit hasen't surported HealthKit yet. I've been DIEING to get the integration! I'll be super excited to have the data available to iOS and the other health apps on my phone.

Lol. I've read quite a few posts on this forum and it seems the Fitbit Charge and Charge HR will be sold only to Android and Windows users. Not that Fitbit will be complaining. It's a large market.

I see where this is going, esp. after Apple will be removing Fitbit's from their retail store. (Who buy's a Toyota at a BMW dealership anyways?)

We won't get integration, so you guys can pipe down. Both sides aren't playing nice. I'm also quite tired of Apple's shenanigans.

Just go ahead and remove the Fitbit app off the Apple App Store.

Please support Health/HealthKit! I love my fitbit and would hate to have to switch to another device, but I really want to put my data into Health and the ecosystem that is building around it. I'm already looking at a alternative device that I can swim with... not supporting Health means my Fitbit One will probably be my last fitbit.

Please integrate with iOS HealthKit ASAP. The "wait and see approach" is not acceptable. While it's great to ask for customer feedback about what we'd like to get out of HealthKit integration, it's NOT okay to wait on that before initial implementation. Fitbit is YOUR product - you should have enough imagination to come up with a satisfying HealthKit integration that most of us will like (without us designing it for you), and you should've had integration ready upon the release of iOS 8. It is immaterial that Apple flubbed the release of HealthKit. That's on them. You should've been ready anyway. I'm extremely dissapointed. I love my Fitbit, and would like to keep using it (and replace it with new Fitbit products when the time comes). But it's just not going to remain relevant without HealthKit integration, so you'll find me moving to a different product if that doesn't happen.

I totally agree with the original post.  I too use several other apps, all of which have integrated with the Apple Health App.  I have been a loyal Fitbit user since the Ultra, having gone through 2 of them and have been with the Fitbit One for almost 2 years now.  I also got the Aria scale when it first came out. I also use MyFitnessPal, and iHealth Blood Pressure Monitor, all of which integrate with the Apple Health.

I recently saw the Withings Pulse O2 at a Best Buy and was intrigued by it, and after looking into their app I see even it integrates with Apple Health.  I was putting off getting the PulseO2, but now that I hear Fitbit won't be supporting Apple Health I may just have to jump the fitbit ship and move on to another product.  The Apple Watch may be pretty , but I can't justify the cost.

I would rather have devices that sync with a dashboard type app like Apple Health without having to do a lot of manual entries.  I was almost there with Tactio Health, which fitbit does integrate well with, but that app does not work with nutrition. On top of that everytime they update their app (frequently) it seems that the syncing capability breaks down.

Aside from entering my fitbit data manually I have been very happy with the Apple Health App. Although I love my fitbit, it may be time to move on to a product that will work in conjunction and play nicely with other apps.  I know several other people that were also looking forward to their fitbits syncing to the Health App. The idea of having your fitness, nutrition, vitals etc all in one place was pretty cool. These people are also upset at this decision.

Whomever is steering this decision to not support Apple's Health app, looks to me like you should remember the Titanic, because your steering straight into the iceberg and this decision could possibly sink your ship.

Please reconsider this decision before I go out and spend the money on the Withings device(s).

My wife and I just started a fitness program a few months ago and are excited about our progress.  I decided to pick up the Aria last week as I assumed like most fitness apps and devices that it would connect to healthkit.  This functionality was important to me because we wanted one place to store and view all fitness data.  MyFitnessPal feeds information into the Health App and works well.  In the past, I have used a couple of other apps to track calories and that data was lost when the apps stopped being supported.

We really liked the Aria scale, but will return it to purchase a Withings one instead.

Hello @Mattgr ! Thanks a lot for this feedback! Well said and I understand your reasoning. Fitbit is all about providing services for everyone. No matter the platform you're using. I suggest that you join the conversation and add your vote for this integration.

Once again, your post is appreciated and we'll look into this further.

Without this integration, my current flex will be my last FitBit product. I have owned each generation of Fitbit, and was looking forward to the next one - but there has to be the integration. Sorry Fitbit, you need to get with the program.

We want to be able to have my personal data collected from the fitbit products in a neutral depository. My data should be able to be shared with what apps I want not what apps that the company has deals with. Even with the health app i would still want to use the Fitbit app for collection and advanced features that the health app doesn't do. But the data does not have to be tied down.

Apologies to all... As I look back I realize I am venting due to personal issues. If Fitbit moves to an android/windows environment  that's fine... It will exclude me as a buyer because I have an apple household... It won't be the first time. Some other vendor will step up to the plate or gasp... I will survive without a tracker... I managed it for the first 49 years of my life... As one of my friends notes "this is such a first world problem"

it would be nice if Fitbit would integrate but honestly I won't die from it... I'll just spend my disposable income elsewhere...

Please support Healthkit, I use your scale and would like to compare the data from it with my various cycling apps which already support Healthkit.

Support of Healthkit will be a prerequisite for any new activity monitor-like devices going forward.

Thanks, Adam

Just got my Zip this afternoon and put a few thousand steps on it. So I'm a bit new at all of this. Anyway, I had been logging meals in MyFitnessPal and I noticed they showed up in my FitBit dashboard and log. If you log food in MyFitnessPal, it communicates with FitBit and with Apple's Health app. I'm not sure if entering exercise (cycling, elliptical trainer, kettle bell, etc.) in MyFitnessPal or in Health will pass the data over to FitBit. I'll get to that eventually. Right now, it looks like MyFitnessPal is the middleman that links FitBIt to Health.

I vote yes for Healthkit integration.  Love my fitbit force and probably won't want to use the apple watch for step tracking.

I have used a Fitbit for over 3 years now and will move to another platform if there is no HealthKit integration
