Integrate with iOS Health

Hi there,

I'm really excited about Apple's announcement of the Health App in iOS 8 to be release this fall.  I'm looking forward to seeing a product announcement by Fitbit for a successor to the recalled Fitbit Force, and I'm really hoping to hear some exciting news about Fitbits intigration with Apple's new Health App to be released alongside iOS 8 this fall.

This is a huge oportunity to make your devices even smarter and more integrated - Please support these APIs!  Thanks!

Bought the Misfit Flash yesterday.  The Health integration is basic right now (only sends steps), but I use Sleep Cycle to track my sleep, which also integrates.  Misfit app also integrates with MyFitnessPal, which I've always preferred using for my food data.

Am satisfied with this setup.  I just contacted Fitbit customer service to deactivate my account.  Made sure to let them know I'm deactivating specifically due to lack of Fitbit to Apple Health integration.

I won't be back.

Hi there, just wanted to express my deception with the fact that your are not planning an integration with HealthKit. I love my One and my Aria but these are not the only two sensors I use! I also own Wahoo hardware for cycling and Garmin for running. I was really looking forward at having one spot that would gather all my data. The worst part of it is that you don't even allow your partners apps such as Digifit to share the info they gathered for you.
Nowadays, there's no company that can survive on their own, you cannot close the door on progress or expect to make hardware you don't currently build that will please everyone.

Thank you

I really like my Fitbit, but I will absolutely switch to another brand if it doesn't work with the HealthKit app.

So please don't leave us iPhonies hanging!

I want my fitbit and Aria scale data to integrate with the iOS Health app.  Fitbit needs to figure out a way to make this happen or you will have a lot of very unhappy customers.

It looks me like the lines have been drawn in the sand and neither party is going to cross it. It's time to quit complaining and just go out and buy a new fitness tracker.

Can't help but be disappointed with the choice to not integrate with Healthkit. I want all of my data in one location. While the Fitbit Flex is great for some things, there are other apps I use for other things and I would like all of my data in one place. Sadly, I am already researching for my replacement.

I agree wholeheartedly with the general opinion in this discussion. To ignore integration with the Apple HealthKit app would undoubtedly damage Fitbit's excellent reputation to date & alienate many users. I use my flex daily but like many others will likely increasingly be using the HealthKit app in the future. If Fitbit continue this stance I will eventually move away to a compatible device (no matter how good the fitbit is) & after that I'm unlikely to return. Fitbit needs to work harder on keeping their users not pushing them away. That reputation works wonders in the grapevine to obtain more new customers so don't jeopardise that reputation, Fitbit, listen to your customers - please..!

I'll add my voice as a dissapointed fitbit user.  I've had three so far, but it looks like the next time I need to replace it I'll be looking somewhere else.  The Pulse Ox looks like the most likely candidate.

@zapleahy Your summary was dead on, your apple user base is very unhappy about the company's decision on this issue.  I would be interested to know the percentage of Fitbit users who are apple users.  My guess is it is not something that is worth ignoring.

I have strayed off topic tho... While reading your summary, all I could read was the unwritten portion that you understand our concerns, they are logical and make sense to you, and your hands are tied and you can't do a thing.  I appreciate what you have done to communicate what you've been allowed to, but I am frustrated by the lack of communication as a whole which I believe comes from the top.  You are in a very bad spot, and I apologize that you are getting the grunt of this anger.

I hope management listens... If not to us, but to Apple who has pulled your products from its store.  Its not hard to realize that your users (especially your diehard users who have owned multiple trackers from the ultra to the one to the flex/force) are always looking for the next best thing.  If fitbit does not deliver, we will go to another company that does...

Just adding in - I echo the sentiments in this forum.  I have unfortunately had to return my Fitbit Force which I truly loved because of the skin irritation, and was anxious to see what the replacement would be.  I would go out and buy a new Fitbit in a heartbeat.  But without Apple HealthKit integration, there's just no way I would even consider it.  Guess I'll start looking for another option.

I moved from UP to FItbit, despite the better software and analysis UP provided for the functionality of the Fitbit and have resisted moving to other platforms. I will probably not buy an Apple watch because of my use case, but I will certainly move to another platform should Fit not support Healthkit. I may be alone in sayring this, but I dont think so. The world will coalesce on standards, and Healthkit may have issues (or not) but the world will move towards Healthkit more thatn it would move to something Fit alone offers.

I did try what you were saying but couldn;t move the steps Fitbit had (and showed in Myfitnessapp) to Healthkit. It may not be a truly bidirectional conduit. Or I'm doing something wrong.

I've been a Fitbit user since 2012 and absolutely love it.  However, I am strongly considering abandoning it for a new tracker if Fitbit chooses not to integrate it with the Apple Health app. While there are a ton of people actually taking the time to post on this site their frustrations, it doesn't compare to the other offline converstations that I, and probably many other users, have had regarding this issue.

You've created a large fan base by creating great products.  But with so many other options out there, how long do you expect to keep this fan base of loyal users when you're going up against a company that has revolutionized almost every product market they've entered?

Also- if Apple does choose to stop carrying your products, I don't think that should matter. How many units were actually sold through that channel?  Not mine...

Ricky, Was there supposed to be a message with this posting?

MyFitnessPal ("MFP") is the middleman for a lot of data. MFP reads steps from the FitBit device. MFP sends food data (calories) to the FitBit app and limited nutritional values (like fat, fiber, carbs, protein, sodium) to the FitBit website dashboard.

MFP also sends food data (calories and some nutritional values) to the Apple Health app.

Until and unless FitBit connects directly to the Health app, my informational needs are satisfied by MFP. I'm happy that MFP interfaces with FitBit so that MFP's food logging summary values show up in the FitBit dashboard and, less important to me, FitBit's step count makes it to MFP.

MFP and FitBit come up with different calories-left values. (I wonder if FitBit incorporates at-rest calorie burn in a way that MFP doesn't.)

Hi @Bluejay No, there wasn't supposed to be a message attached to my post. I merged a duplicate idea with this current idea. I private messaged the user who posted the duplicate idea. This idea is still marked "Under Consideration" in case you were wondering....

Please let me know if you have any more questions!

Wow! Not since Bill Gates declared that the internet was not important for Microsoft to concentrate on have I seen such hubris - Hopefully James Park and Eric Friedman are facepalming right about now.  What ever your view either for or against Apple ignore Healthkit integration at your peril!  If you don't innovate and listen to your customers you will loose.

Already there are reports that Apple are pulling product from their stores.  On a lesser scale we have used our FitBit Ones for over a year now and I was just considering purchasing the Aria and the Premium subscription but not now I'll go and get something that allows me to use my data how I want.  The competitors are already stealing a march with their 3rd party integration e.g. with Nest's heating thermostats they and/or their investors/share holders must be laughing so hard.

Another vote for integration with Health. When the Apple watch comes out I will have no choice but ditch my fitbit one.

@RickyFitbit

You don't have, but badly need an "In Development" status. And this feature needs to have that status.

What more do you need to see to convince you?

I've been with Fitbit since 2010 and I'm looking at other devices, and it doesn't feel like I'm cheating on fitbit, I feel you guys broke faith first.

One of the key reasons that I bought my Aria scale was because fitbit integrated with other apps like myfitnesspal and endomondo. The Health app will improve the integration enormously- it's a safe place to store data and it makes it accessible to all health apps rather than just the 50 that fitbit has integrated with.

I can't belive Fitbit isn't planning to integrate with the Health App. I'm very dissapointed.

Why do you want Ricky to lie?  This is a feud between Apple and Fitbit.  Nothing is going to change.  This whole thread is an exercise in futility.

Bluejay

@Mikey1234

If there is a feud, I think it was started by Fitbit, after all Apple showed fitbit images when it announced their Watch.

So if fitbit started, maybe they should make peace.

@Bluejay

Agreed, but it's not going to happen.  They even interviewed the CEO of Fitbit, and nothing is going to change at this time so this thread is pointless.  There isn't anything that anyone could say that will change their minds unless we all vote with our wallets instead of voting in this thread!

Bluejay

@Mikey1234

I think if it goes that far fitbit will be done for and this thread is the eulogy.

It is Fitbit's choice.

@RickyFitbit and @zapleahy , Please let the powers that be know, that the only people still posting want to see fitbit survive, but to do that they need to open up the data.

Many have already bought new devices, and those that are left are looking at what the market has to offer. It is only a matter of time before even I jump ship.
