Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

I have the Ionic but it needs a screen lock, such a simple feature I don't understand why its not been done. So many times I have lost my workout because of accidental pause, very frustrating!

I've sent two private PMs to AllisonmL who marked this feature request as Under Consideration but even she doesn't have the courtesy to respond with an update.

This happens to me while lifting using straps. It would be a very welcome feature for the Ionic. Maybe the physical pause button can be disabled when in weightlifting mode

I don't do weights so I cant comment on the issues when doing that activity.

However before running I now switch off the auto wake up and have had no problems since. I can only assume that my sleeve was rubbing the face and switching off the exercise.

I use the Ionic when doing (amongst other activities) cross country skiing. First, there is no activity for this, so I use HIKE to get GPS track and cardio data. However, I have on ALL my trips that I have used the Ionic, ALLWAYS experienced that the recording stops/pauses somewhere/sometime during my exercise. I suspect this is due to the sleeves of my underwear or rather the gloves activating the screen and pausing the ongoing activity.

If I’m lucky enough to discover this, I need to open my Velcro lock for my poles, take of my right glove and start it again, then put everything back on….

This is totally annoying and makes my Ionic somewhat useless for my favourite activity in the wintertime…

Please fix this! My suggestion; introduce a touch screen lock feature that is activated by holding the left button for 2/3 seconds. Disable the same way. Should be an easy fix…..

The silicon cover I bought has turned out to be very effective,, a shame that fitbit can't provide something as effective, especially seeing as how much the Ionic costs!

Im finding that I continue to pause my weight training session due to the postion of tge pause button on fitbit versa.

the button needs to be disabled and only have pause button on screen.

when u twist your wrist to far the button hits top of hand and pauses session.

I really hope this gets resolved. Fitbit is tantamount to useless for me for workouts now as it makes it unusable for running, cycling and certainly for any serious gym workouts, circuits etc.

I have other concerns in this area; I've found the heart rate to be really inaccurate at anything besides walking and I think introducing the possibility of pairing with a heart rate monitor chest strap during workouts so I'm only relying on the optical during the day whilst walking around would be the way to go. I accept that is probably a more complex fix however (although I would note that Polar watches which also do daily tracking are able to manage it...)

By contrast though, inserting some kind of screen lock feature into a software update seems like it would be a fairly simple operation although perhaps I'm missing something? Very disappointing that it doesn't seem to have been taken on board by Fitbit.

I really loved my fitbit ONE and my first Fitbit Charge so I ordered a Blaze when they first came out. Honestly though I'm considering a Garmin or Polar daily tracker next as none of the new Fitbit models seem to have taken any of the above onboard. If I just want a smartwatch I'll spend more money and get an Apple watch or a Galaxy Gear or similar - both have fitness functions that can be well supported. I have watches though, so I have a Fitbit as an activity tracker and they seem to be really falling behind in making them useful in this area. I use it for calorie monitoring via MyFitnessPal and if the heart rate is inaccurate then my calorie readings there are likely to be as well and I cannot have that be the case. This is a tricky area anyway so having yet more inaccuracy thrown in is really unacceptable to me.

I might overlook all of that as Fitbit's convenience (such as third party apps like DriveBit and so on) have been quite convenient but I can live with that if it comes to it for greater accuracy and I've always been a fan of Polar's heart rate chest straps and as they now do daily tracking... Garmin as well and both have built in GPS in a lot of their lower-end devices as well as higher end.

Please Fitbit; if you introduce at the very least lock-screens to the Blaze, Charge 2 etc. it will give us the feeling you're actually paying attention to us.

Hi @Thob86 and commenters, thanks for sharing this suggestion. We’re happy to let you know that this has been released on Fitbit Ionic and Fitbit Versa. Note that this won't be released for prior Fitbit devices. The screen will return to the clock face if left untouched for a certain period. Thank you for sharing your ideas and enthusiasm with the community.

Thanks for the update by SantiFitbit on providing a "lock screen" feature for the blaze - I appreciate your comments rather than the silence we have had on this topic for a long time.

I think this clearly shows that Fitbit's strategy is to "encourage" customers to upgrade to a new device instead of fixing the errors of the past.

Modifying the software to enable this would cost relatively nothing compared to the lack of sales impact caused by number of people who like me, are probably going to vote with their feet.

I'm afraid that I will not be putting Fitbit on my "recommended" list - in fact it hasn't been for a while that's why most of my training buddies now wear garmin - more expensive but it does what it says on the box!

In summary - Fitbit Customer Care Strategy = Epic Fail!!!

How does this solution help me on my blaze?

Hi Saltnshake -

unfortunately Fitbit have confirmed they are not going to provide a solution to lock the screen.

This leaves us all with 3 options:-

1) spend more money with fitbit on a newer model - not likely

2) do nothing and put up with it - not likely

3) sell it on Ebay and buy a Garmin / Polar / Samsung / Suunto instead. - now that's a good idea!

I prefer option 3.

I'm still not sure this will address mye issues - how does it work??!?

I am one of the originators of this post. I don't recall when I submitted the initial post, but it feels like such a long time ago, at least over a year I'm sure.

So I did some research, and I cannot confirm if the locking feature is available in Ionic and Versa. I looked and looked, and I don't believe the screen lock is available. I noticed other threads that are requesting this feature for the Ionic and Versa. So, for the moment we can conclude three things:

1) Fitbit doesn't care for this feature
2) New consumers are buying this product and discovering for themselves how utterly useless their expensive tracking device are without this feature
3) Fitbit doesn't care about it's current users

I have the Blaze, and I'm constantly checking to see if my exercise was paused accidentally. Sometimes I can get through with no pauses, but it's totally annoying. Other times, I just don't wear it.

Hi Steve and all

A company that asks for feedback, but only the feedback it likes is on a road to nowhere.

I like my Ionic, it does many things well, but it also has many shortfalls. Despite the community providing a gold mine of feedback, nothing ever seems to happen to fix the items raised.

The apps are in short supply and so far the most useful I have found is the torch, which on a £230 device says a lot ….

With many of the core features for casual fitness users increasingly included on smart phones there needs to be a reason for customers to fork out good cash on a fitbit watch. At the moment its difficult to see what that is.

Randy, you are so true.  I switched to Garmin quite some time ago.  They were never going to fix the problems people recommended (going to watch face with no way to keep it on a different face).  Then I like the fact that my garmin can be used for swimming.  I think they finally came up with one in fitbit but not timely enough for me.

When you want to reply to a post, you pick the big lettered pink link but when you use it, it says if you use this link your reply will not be received??  What is that all about.  You have to use the small print blue link.  Why even include a  link that won't work??

I was on the waiting list when fitbit first came out but they just did not live up to my expectations. (My expectations are not that high).

The update that was released on Fitbit smartwatches was a timer-based reversion back to the clock face, in case you had navigated away to another clock face, as per the original post. If you've accidentally clicked to another screen, or clicked a button, your screen will automatically revert back to your chosen clock face, rather than stay on the screen you navigated to. This suggestion exists to lock the device buttons during exercise if that is of interest to you. Thanks

That this actually need to be posted in the feature suggestion area! I consider it a bug. Please fix.... guess it wont happen. Tell you what... if you stood behind your products and didn´t drop them like hot stones as soon as possible, I and thousands with me would remember that when time came to buy a new tracker. Yeah, fitbit worked on their tracker and app for the life of the hardware, I like that, I think I drop my money on them again. But as of now.... not likely going to happen, will it?

@MikeS1971 this thread is in the feature suggestion.

There was a cry for the Blaze to stay on the last screen so Fitbit madrmthe change.

What Fitbit did not think about is that not everyone wants this feature and should have added an option .

The original request was not for an option, but to have the screen always stay on the last mode .

I guess Fitbit took the request to literally.

I unsubscribed from this topic, but I'm still receiving reply notifications?

I had the Blaze when it first launched. It always returned to the last screen viewed. Which I liked. I would of been upset if it was changed to always returned to the clock.

@Rich_Laue Lol, how many thousand votes did it take to get fitbit do it wrong? Without an user option, back to homescreen is the only way doing it. With an option or a settable grace time it doesn´t matter. @MikeS1971 seem to like it the way it is. I do to.. sometimes, when I check the screen like every few minutes but... coming back two hours later and you´re still there... no. This is just.... facepalm all over 😄
