Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

+1. Going back after 15 seconds does no harm but neither does it solve the problem.

Sorry it doesn't work for you. I'm pleased with the update. Every time I
look at my watch I see the time. I haven't tried testing the display while
tracking exercise yet.

I have been leaving the Surge on the heart rate screen and monitoring different activities and what my heart rate goes up on. It was previously nice and easy with a quick glance, now with the imposed 15 seconds I have to change screens.

The solution would be a simple user option to leave the screen alone OR to revert back to any given screen, such as clock or steps. Obviously to stop the screen being swiped by a sleeve allow auto lock option or a manual lock by pressing bottom right button and menu button, using same again to unlock.

It doesn't work for me because my shirt or sweater or jacket is almost always touching the screen when i wear long sleeves in my colder climate.

I am sure that when it gets warm and I wear short sleeves for the summer I won't have an issue. Not sure where you are located but where I am it is "long sleeve weather" for 9+ months out of the year and the "wait 15 seconds" every time my shirt/sweater/jacket touches the screen (which is very sensitive) I either have to wait 15 seconds to get back to the clock or swipe it back again.

I simply want the **CHOICE** to lock it where **I** want it.  The "fix" isn't a fix (for me).

Wow I haven't had any problems with my Surge but then again I didn't go overseas. Your right My son-in-law has a Garmin Forerunner and he says it's great

I really want to see this option, but I don't want to have to hold a button down, I think just pressing the lower right button once should toggle the lock on/off. (Since that button currently does nothing when on any of the non-exercise screens.)

Please reserve holding a button down for the feature request to allow us to start preset exercises by holding a button down.

Agreed, the Surge I purchased stayed on the HR display.  Now after the update I don't have what I purchase any longer.  It is time for a fix or return for refund!

I much prefer the new behaviour of flipping back to the watch screen rather than changing every time my sleeve brushes on it, but I would definitely like the option to freeze it on one screen.

I don't use my Surge as a watch(I still like an actual analog watch on my other wrist), having the surge revert to the clock after 15 seconds is a major downgrade in functionality in my opinion.

I think any one of the three options below would work:

-Leave it on a tile of choice(as before latest update)

-Use a physical button to lock on the tile currently being displayed and use the same button to unlock to scroll between tiles

-Allow me to create a user home screen that the surge reverts to after 15 seconds.  Default is the clock but I would make my user home screen the heart rate monitor as an example.

Locking to a desired screen would be incredibly helpful. I preferred it before the update as now I can't view my heart rate whilst riding my bike. I use the Strava app to track my bike rides as the Surges GPS data is not as accurate and it affects the battery life. If I have my phone on me anyway it makes sense to use that rather than having to charge the surge every day.

I think the user should decide what it wants as a default screen.  Some like it to go back to clock after 15 seconds but this should be a choise.  Sometimes I am doing a short walk inside and want to occationally look and see where I am for steps.  I want to keep it on the step screen without it defaulting back to clock but other times, as when out in public and you don't want everyone knowing my business, I want it to be on the clock.  It should be a user choise.

Also, the clock face should have the battery indicator.  Now I am forever going to the menu screen to see how low my battery is, which just makes the battery life shorter.  I should just be able to look at the screen while on watch to see what the battery level is.

Simple fix for this issue that should satisfy everyone:

Allow ANY screen to be locked at users request by simply pushing 2 buttons.  Dev's could choose whichever 2 buttons they like,

Example:  On **ANY** current screen you want to keep on for display if you press left button and right bottom button screen will stay locked at THAT screen until same press unlocks it. Simple?

Definitely needs to be an option, since it's changed functionality.

I'd like it to either go back to the way it was prior to the update or give the option for the user to decide which screen is the 'home screen' or to lock it to particular screen...

thanks for the consideration.

I don't think a button should be used. Just have an option to set a "default" screen and have it switch to that screen after 15 seconds.

I would prefer it the way it was before the update. (Not sure why the change was made in the first place) Also, having all the screens right justified seems very amateurish. Centering had a more professional look to it. Swiping between screens is less smooth than before, very jittery and jumpy now.

I don't care for the new feature that defaults back to the clock after 15 seconds all the time. I like it sometimes, but there are times where I want to see steps or heartrate at a glance and I'm not performing an "exercise" activity that I wish to track. This feature request would give me the functionality that I desire.

@dchun

The 15 second timeout is fine if your screen is not CONSTANLY being moved by an article of long sleeve clothing constanly touching the very sensitive watch face as mine did all day today at work.  It constanly slid to another screen then 15 seconds later went back to clock then to another screen and over and over.

Why not SIMPLY be able to LOCK it to clock (or any screen of YOUR choice) when you desire without having to deal with 15 seconds each time.  It is such a simple solution. Your way is not  a problem over the summer with short sleeves or in warm climates. Shirts with tight elestic sleeves drive it bonkers. At least now, unlike before, it goes back after 15 seconds but it's still very annoying watching it go back and forth every 15 seconds whenever your shirt rubs on the screen. I just want to be able to use it as a plain old simple watch when I am not running or working out and if I am wearing a long sleeve polo and/or jacket and/or sweater and/or sweatshirt with elastic in the sleeve!  :D.  Such a simple request.

This feature is a major downgrade. I want to revert back to the old firmware.

I vote for the lock screen idea to solve this problem.  I agree for normal daily tracking I like the watch going back to the time.  When I'm exercising, I want my HR screen on and not acidentally going to another screen.  The lock solves the problem completely.

I like to keep the screen on the Heart Rate tile so I can see whether I'm in cardio range etc and can adjust my workout accordingly. Can't see any benefit of this update change, annoying.....grrrr!

If I wanted a watch, I would have bought a watch.  I got my Surge to track my steps -- please give me the option to default the main screen to steps.  Thanks!

Edit -- I should have said please give us the option to default the main screen to the screen of our choice.

@kdub72

I got my Surge to track my steps, runs,  track my calories and also be a watch when I am at work or sitting in the movies or while watching my grandson's basebal games which is exactly the reason we need to be able to lock it to ***ANY*** screen we want and ***ANY*** time we wanr.  There is no "one fits all screen default as you can see from all the messages.

Everyone has a different primary purpose.  However if all you want to do is track your steps and be able to look at it on your wrist there would have been a lot other cheaper ways to do it.  😄 😄

I dislike the screen defaulting back to the clock. I like to be able to watch my steps throughout the normal daily activities. This should be a user option.
