Lock Touchscreen to Clockface

I'm finding over the course of the day and while sleeping my Surge's touchscreen becomes switched from the watch face to one of the other screens. It would be very helpful if there was an ability to hold down one of the physical buttons to lock the touchscreen on the watch face and repeat to unlock. This would prevent accidental navigation away from the watch face. Please consider adding this functionality in a future firmware update. Thank you.

Moderator Edit:

The latest Surge firmware update added a function which reverts Surge to its clock screen after 15 seconds. Some users would prefer to continuously view another data tile, such as Steps, Heart Rate, or Distance. This is no longer possible for more than 15 seconds outside of starting an Exercise log.

This existing Feature Request represents a good solution to the issue, and I encourage anyone who might be interested in this new feature to vote or comment in this thread.

SimBear's suggestion would be great for the surge too. At times I want it always on HR. Or to stay there if I'm monitoring it for prolonged periods. It goes back to clock on the surge in 10 seconds and I'm trying to monitor a full minutes worth of HR.

Hello,

The Blaze's screen lights up when I'm sleeping because some buttons are accidentally pressed or it thinks I'm double tapping the screen when I'm only trying to sleep.

Can you include a feature to "lock" the device so that it doesn't respond to double tapping or button presses and accidentally light up the screen at night?

The device could be for example be unlocked by holding one of the right buttons with the left button for x amounts of seconds. Maybe the lock would work also the same way with a button combination?

I agree as well.   Nothing worse then getting back home and seeing that it stopped after 5 minutes because the button got hit.   Not an issue during warm weather, noticed when out with gloves on or the dog leash hits it.  Cheers!

I was surprised that there is no way to lock the buttons or screen when working out. One of the main reasons for purchasing the Blaze was to track all my workouts so it’s very frustrating to see how often it stops tracking mid-workout because the buttons caught my wrist or hand straps, boxing glove or jacket sleeve. This happens several times a week even when I try to position the watch high up my forearm.

This is something very basic. It feels like FitBit didn’t bother to test the watch in real life training before releasing.

Thankfully this could be fix via firmware updates. Hopefully it will be done soon!

Please do not make autonreturn the only option! See the hundreds of comments on the surge thread when you took this away! Make it a user setting to choose either way...

@SilviaFitbit

Make this an option that we can turn on/off ourselves instead of making it mandatory like Fitbit did with the Surge. I personally want to keep tracking my step count and I don't want to have to swipe over every time I want to check.

If this ever gets further up the development chain, please make this an optional feature to the user. 50% of people want to see the time, every time. 50% want to see what they were last looking at, every time.

It's another thing I like about the Blaze over the Surge... Not forcing me to have to go back to the time screen.

I like that the blaze stays on the screen you are currently using. In the exercise mode this is very helpful to just tap and then pause or stop the workout with having to get back to it. If there's a change, please let the user have the option. I like it the way it is.

I've tracked several walks using the device and had at least 5 pause or even end altogether because my sleeve has brushed the display. And walking is hardly a vigorous workout. Very disappointing in such an expensive device. Got so annoyed with it I've gone back to using the app to track exercise. Ability to lock the screen during exercise is a must.

I have accidently paused several times during excercies as well (coat sleave for the most part).  Please can we have a way to lock?

Thanks

I have found a slight work around for the issue of not having a screen lock. Before starting an exercise, or perhaps going to bed, you can go into settings on the Blaze and turn off the "Quick View" function. This helps keep the screen off during most of my workout and for me, helps prevent stopping my exercise tracking accidentally. I will warn this isn't perfect as a quick double tap on the watch still wakes it up and your tracking can easily be paused once the screen is awake again. This has cut down my accidental starts and stops from the initial 7+ in a workout to the occasional 1 or 2. Once I'm done with my workout I turn the Quick View function back on.
I hope this helps some of you a bit until we get a real screen lock.

Yes!!!

As per some of the other users above the ability to lock both the screen and buttons during an activity is necessary.  Either a combination of buttons (preferably on either side of the screen) or a slide to pause.  Boxing workouts continually being paused has caused me to not wear my watch for the purpose it was bought for

I think the fitbit app from phone should have an option to lock exercise on watch. Also an option to automatically track specific exercises. For example I only track GOS when I bike. It would be nice for it to be automated which would negate screen lock for me.

Please make this as an OPTION only.   My surge does this and I hate it.  I love the fact that the blaze stays on whatever screen you had it on last.  I hardly ever care what time it is and don't normally put it on clock.

Fine to change but only if it is an option (maybe you could make the surge act the same way as the blaze on this feature)! 🙂

It is very surprising there is not a lock feature. In the 2 days I have had it I relized without that it is not a watch for someone with children, that has sleeves or overuses their arms. Unfortunately I will be returning this becuase it does not have a lock option.

This is a great idea! I can see how this can be helpful for workouts, but I think that locking the screen can helpful also when you sleep or when you do an outdoor activity. I remind you all to vote for this idea so it can be implemented soon.

Thanks for sharing and supporting this idea! 🙂

This would be a great feature.

I'm so glad someone has posted here about a lock screen, as I have been a frustrated Blaze owner myself who cannot depend on tracking my runs with the Blaze due to the Blaze pausing and stopping while I'm doing my runs. Right now it's not warm enough to wear short sleeve shirts and jackets so the Blaze keeps waking up and eventually stopping my tracking. This screen lock would be the perfect solution.

Someone mentioned turning Quick View off as a solution - that only keeps it off when turning your wrist only.

Here was my original post on this:

While I would have loved this option per my original request but I ended up returning my Blaze for an Alta. Fitbit took a step backward in product development with this one. I didn't care enough to wait for a software update because the dust accumulation on the edges, and the misleading FitStar ads really annoyed me.

Unfortunately this morning I ran my first 10K in the rain and was 45 degrees out. I regretfully had to ditch trying to track my run again this morning due to wearing the long sleeve shirt because it stopped during the race. I just couldn't babysit it any longer. Unfortunately, due to my running, I'm going to have to look at other options to wear during runs because the Blaze just isn't going to be reliable to me, and I have my first half marathon next Saturday morning.

I really hope the request to add a lock screen somehow gets to the developers and not fall on deaf ears because my $300 investment is not what I had hoped for.

Yes, have this as an OPTION only, please!

(Also, on the Pop watch face it would be nice if it remembered which screen you were on instead of going back to clock after it turns off...almost feels like that feature of the pop screen is useless when I can just go to the today screen to see all that data and it will stay.)

This suggested feature is a must for boxfit. I was showing a friend my blaze at boxfit and telling him how great it was except for the lack of a lock feature. During that class I had to restart the exercise about 3 times. Not a good look for potential customers.
If only the left button or a button combo was used to finish or confirm finish the exercise I would be extremely satisfied and have nothing bad to say about it.

I agree it should be an option. While I'm in the middle of a workout on my blaze I like that when I look at it it shows the last screen (the workout) so I know where I'm at. But during the day it would be really nice when I look it at that it showed the clock. (although honestly, it isn't too hard to try and remember it click the button - it would just be convienet)

Really need this for kickboxing. My workout ended itself within two minutes of starting the workout. The boxing gloves brush against the watch.
