Longer Screen Time for Charge Trackers

I purchased my charge 3 after seeing it would have a Screen Time out Option.  It shipped without one.  Moderator Kate says it’s not available at this time.  The manual is now being changed to reflect that.

I really, really want/need that option.  It was the reason I chose the Charge.  That and my 50’s year old eyes.  The current screen only stays on for 3-4 seconds.  That is a very short amount of time.  I have to repeated tap the screen to read a text that comes in.  IF we are going to have the ability to get notifications, we need the ability to read them.

Please Fitbit, give us the option that was originally in the manual to change the screen time out.  The Versa has it, so I know it can be done.

I'd like to add for the call for a longer screen time option. I'm really finding this a major failing in the Charge 3. That and irregularity in HR measurement. To be honest, if it hadn't been a gift, I'd be sending it back.

I'm absolutely astonished that such a mature product as a FitBit does not have an option to change the screen timeout. Some people need to look at a clock for more than 4 seconds to be able to time something using the second hand without having to use the stopwatch!

Amazing that the product doesn't have this simple customisation - every other phone and piece of wearable tech with a screen does. Please provide this feature.

I know I am beating a dead horse here, but I just started EMT school and realized how useless my fitbit just became in one day. Until I began pursuing a medical profession, the fitbit was a fine way to track my health, and now, since we never know when there will be an emergency on any given day, I have to use a different wristwatch that gives me constant display without having to use my other hand to control the stopwatch.

I am posting here hoping that the additional feedback comment will push the requirement to move up in priority. I never thought about how important it was, but it's crazy how almost overnight, the value of my fitbit dropped from one of the most helpful tool in my life to one of the least.

So it is clear the addition of a longer screen time out is easy as I noticed other Fitbit products have been updated, but you leave the Charge 3 out.  Well I am now moving to a Garmin.  What a terrible lack of customer service to only acknowledge this is a great idea, then update other products with 2,000 votes, but leave out another product with 855 votes.  Seems like 3,855 votes would spur action.  It has spurred me to return my Fitbit Charge 3 and move on to a Garmin.

I have the charge 3 for some time and it is totally inane that they have not addressed this real issue. The time out is way too short. Threads stated about this issue last October with not a single real solution suggested. I'm thinking of ditching my fitbit for a garmin as well. It's battery lasts just as long and has no screen time out issues.

I really don't think fitbit cares. We've already purchased the product. They made the sale, so they don't have to care anymore. They are only interested selling more, not supporting their current customers. Loyalty means little it seems these days. Moderators just try to be nice and placate us and offer nothing of real value. Which is too bad. I used to rave about my Charge 2 and how much I liked it. Charge 3 on the other hand, I've already been steering friends away. It's simply ridiculous that they cannot and or refuse to fix this. Unacceptable.

I tweeted to @FitbitSupport yesterday saying that the screen-on time was ridiculously short and asked if there was a fix.  This morning they responded (in part) by apologizing and saying that "The screen timeout setting isn't available yet for Charge 3. We saw that this has been raised on our suggestions board ."   They included a link (to the Community Board) and suggested that I vote and leave a comment. Smiley Indifferent

If you are on Twitter and haven't done so already, please consider reaching out to them with your complaint about the screen time.

I kmow this is a thread for charge 3, but same applies for charge 2. I
actually still use my charge 2 and I need the same update for that too.

Would like display to stay on longer. Work in medical field and the display doesn’t stay on long enough to time a pulse. Would like to see user setting to adjust this. Even 15 or 20 secs would be good enough

Please increase the screen time for Charge 3 as soon as possible.

The ability to keep display on during a workout is a fundamental requirement. Even if you can port the display to the app fro viewing on phone or iPad.

Not only have I posted here, on Twitter, and on the FitBit Facebook page, I also went on to the Best Buy website and posted a review. Wherever you bought your FitBit, might as well do others a favor and let them know about this issue.

I agree. There are three ways to activate the screen, and each should be customizable. I would love to be able to set the screen wake to stay on for 15 seconds, the double-tap for 30-60 seconds, and the button for several minutes to indefinitely. Maybe you could reverse the screen wake algorithm to make it sleep when you stop looking at it? Then it could be set for a few minutes.

It seems there's no point asking to be able to adjust the screen time on the Charge 3.  The only answer from Fitbit that I can find is "tough, it's not available".

Yep well I took it back and bought a smart watch. I just couldn’t live with the small things that bothered me.

I'm returning my Charge 3 today.  Like the previous post says, I'm not willing to live with the things that bother me.

Just left this reviee on Amazon. I will start to make a noise a bigger noise on Facebook too. "You would think the upgrade to the Charge 2 would be superior but no. Unfortunately the Charge 3 is infuriating because the screen timeout is set to 3-4 seconds. There is no user definable option to increase it. In practical terms this means that you cannot use the device because the screen has gone off before you can read it properly. Complaints to Fitbit are falling on deaf ears with 700 users complaining but no response or more importantly a software update including a fix. Don't bother buying the Charge 3"

Why is  there only a deafening silence in response to the many requests for a variable screen timeout?
