Longer Screen Time for Charge Trackers

I purchased my charge 3 after seeing it would have a Screen Time out Option.  It shipped without one.  Moderator Kate says it’s not available at this time.  The manual is now being changed to reflect that.

I really, really want/need that option.  It was the reason I chose the Charge.  That and my 50’s year old eyes.  The current screen only stays on for 3-4 seconds.  That is a very short amount of time.  I have to repeated tap the screen to read a text that comes in.  IF we are going to have the ability to get notifications, we need the ability to read them.

Please Fitbit, give us the option that was originally in the manual to change the screen time out.  The Versa has it, so I know it can be done.

I just don't understand why Fitbit refuse to even offer some concern and make give some reassurance that will do something.

Like many others, I work in healthcare and purchased this watch because of the second hand timer, not knowing that this feature is useless because of the limited time to see the screen. I think it is ridiculous that our voices are not being heard. As of now, I have not been recommending my friends and family to use Fitbit products and I will definitely not purchase more in the future.

Here is my latest message to Daisy, at fitbit, in regards to an email they sent me this afternoon.

Daisy,

I thank you for taking the time to respond to my email, but this issue has been on the site for over a year. Hundreds of people have been asking for it and it was promised over a year ago. Please shake the developer's. They're sleeping on the job. When I was a developer of MS,  Linux and Vax based software, I would have terminated my employees who had this little regard for the customer. Someone there needs to do something about this timeout problem. Yes, "Problem"! People are returning their fitbit devices in favor of the competitors, simply for the lack of concern for the end user. I hope to hear back from you in regards to getting some customer support.

im also experienced in code so i know this is a 15min fix Not a 2 year
project, i would say its management holding this up because they don't want
to take anyone off other new projects not even for 15min, its totally
disgusting and short sighted.

They sent me a message that the 3 second timing is for the battery life.

Of course we know battery life is a factor.  How patronising & arrogant of Fitbit. Thay are simply ignoring the opinion of many users who are prepared to have a longer screen time at the expense of a slightly shorter battery life. We don't want Fitbit dictating that fixed balance as we want a range of timings to suit individual users. It's not much to ask - especially when Fitbit have many dissatisfied users and are losing sales as the word gets out. Clearly this situation is now more about Fitbit"s uncaring arrogance than just the issue itself.

They told me new update would be coming out soon. I got it tonight. Still only three seconds and no adjustment. I just did a survey on how customer support did. They did nothing but make excuses. My survey called them out on it. Hopefully something will get done!

New update? I recommend you don't! The wake-up sensitivity isn't good. Double tapping only works occasionally. And the heart rate monitor likes to turn off.

Agree with the original poster. Really really need the option to adjust screen timeout time. It's so short! The original request was published in November 2018 - are you looking into this?

Agreed - but do they really care?

I'm going to keep on annoying them if I have to. I'm not giving up!

Here is my latest message to their support team.

I just got the latest update for my Charge 3. Some basic functions are now not functioning very well. The display often won't turn on even if you do double tap it. Screen wake seldom works. The setting for the heart rate monitor turns itself off periodically and we're still stuck with the 3 second display time. Really guys, it's time to hire some programmers and fix this! Customer support is certainly not very good!

Pardon my French but I’ve been complaining and reading complaints about the screen timeout since Oct 2018. I even complained to BBB and got no satisfaction. Fitbit and their customer service are a bunch of f#%*ing a**holes. I don’t wear my Charge 3 because it is useless and I will never buy one again or recommend Fitbit even to my worst enemy. Hope they read this. Not that it will make a difference but at least lll feel better.
