It's a shame you didn't get the Fitbit scale. It doesn't bother with the antiquated pounds or even kilograms but scores you based on the quality of your weight. It's all very scientific and designed to help you improve the Earth's attraction to your body. People really like stepping on the scale and always seeing a number less than 100. [btw: this is sarcasm]
It is odd how the threads are organized or modified. I made two comments initially and I continue to get follow up comments like yours. I certainly don’t mind, but it seems like the feedback is scattered through no fault of our own.
You're the leader so far with an 85. Of course, before prizes are awarded we must have photographic evidence of the score, together with a time lapse video of the night's sleep that earned it.
My average is also 70, which feels very below average being a "D". I guess we just don't care about the quality of our sleep or we'd try harder.
I've had email exchanges with fitbit support regarding my feeling that the "sleep score" is unscientific, based on data that is unreliably collected, and amotivational. In at least one I got the following reply which at least described fitbit's goal when creating the "sleep score". I still hate it and believe the "score" is damaging rather than helpful to users interested in their sleep hygene. For your edification (I x'd out the support person's name, but they have been absolutely the most responsive.:
"Hi Glenda, Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We appreciate your feedback in regard to this matter. We respect your position toward this matter and understand that you just want to have a great experience with your device. We would like to take this chance to apologize for the disappointment and inconvenience this has caused, please know that this is not the experience we want you to have. We acknowledge your feedback regarding this matter and rest assured, this won't go unnoticed as we want to ensure that we are delivering on what our customers need and want. At this point, we'd like to share with you more information about sleep score. Your sleep score helps you understand your sleep each night so you can see trends in your sleep patterns. For more information, you can visit What's sleep score in the Fitbit app?Fitbit is constantly working to provide you the experience we want you to have. Know that your experience has been taken into account and won't be unrecognized. We look forward to your utmost understanding. Feel free to ask questions if you have any. Sincerely,
I also agree with all of the comments regarding the judgmental character of the score. In addition the fact that you can only find out how it's calculated by buying premium makes it particularly insulting. It is comparable to the clever idea someone had to remove HR tracking with Charge 2 (but not Charge 3) when using the Fitbit app with GPS to track a run or walk
That link is able a sleep efficiency number, which simple arithmetic can calculate for anyone. The sleep number is not that. It's an unscientific judgment of something you can't control or affect in any way.
That response is the same one I've gotten multiple times from multiple people at Fitbit Corp. It's called copy and paste. They say they don't want that to be our experience, yet knowing it is doesn't change their actions. That's called disingenuous.
Odd that their first and only response is assuming we've read nothing about how the Fitbit even calculates sleep data. They keep referring to material they've written while ignoring the volume of material from their customers that we don't like it, we don't want it.
The data points collected by the Fitbit are scientific and valid. The sleep score is not. They also say they provide that as a measure of the quality of our sleep. Why not provide me with a score for the quality of my heart? The quality of my exercise? Quality cannot be judged like that. Either we use the English language or choose another you know.
Continually stabbing someone while apologizing for the blood loss they're experiencing is not helpful.
Agree Runner0001. That link is just high level pretty speak which contains no data of value. I too have been getting the rote response runaround on the other topic I mentioned in my post above (being able to get heart rate graph on walks turned on with GPS manually). This thread reads the same. What's most galling is as you say the assumption in Customer Support response that the user has read nothing and never used the app or device.
@Runner0001and @MrsFrogcf , I simply posted the response I got from support because it contained the most condedcension and denial that a vast number of customers might have insight into their own needs.
Below is how I responded to support after I received the email above:
Hi xxxxxxx,
While I'm curious about what my sleeping heart rate is --having fitbit grade my sleep will not encourage me to spend more money for a "premium service" with a company that does what I'm perfectly capable of doing without wearing a device at all.
If your executives and developers actually believe the "sleep score" has value, drop it as a "free benefit" and make it only available with the premium, what do you think we customers would be willing to pay for it?
YESSSSSSS!!!! Please fitbit, have a option to go back to sleep time averages. This thing is pointless. Quality sleep is more about time rather than whether you were restless, or not. Shouldn't be getting 85+ on 6.5hrs just because I didn't wake up. Idiotic and pointless information.
I'm actually am trying hard, even going to a sleep doctor to help issues. My 85 came at the start of the sleep scores while on vacation. I've only had 2 in the 80s since. Very frustrating. Another reason I'd just like to see average time though out the week.
Umm that thing (sleep efficiency score) users were clamoring for was 5 pages long for about 5 years.
The thread about users upset with the sleep score is over 30 pageslong for just one month.
But I do have a real answer, sort of,
Don't access your data on your ios device but access it on the web. As of today the both the web dashboard and the windows gadget app dashboard both do not have the sleep score. Guilt free data access.
Adding the sleep score useless “feature,” and forbidding us from turning it off is terrible. Please bring back the weekly average and give us the option to turn off the sleep score.
Wow @bliss_s, that's such a rubbish copy/paste response! "We're sorry that you hate this new feature so much that you have take action to complain. Here's some information on why it is so utterly dreadful. Have a lovely day, byeeee."
Well, I've taken mine off now and I don't even miss it. Custom lost! Just reading this thread for the ratio. 😉
(PS: Is 'Community Legend' an unavoidable level on this forum? Because it sounds like the sort of job someone running a toast boutique would have.)
Your weekly progress report gives you the weekly sleep summary. I'm unaware of the weekly average ever being shown in the app. Though i might be wrong.
You are. Where the sleep score is was where the sleep averages were. In fact, before the last update, one could scroll down and still see it before the judging implementation. Now it shows a 0 score, which is what users think of the score and its benefits.
