Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

I fully support the need for an Indoor Rower exercise option.

Greetings

What is required in the Rowing function is heart rate tracking i.e. Average, Peak and exercise duration and looking at the build up and warm-down (shown as a graph) and then measured against age (maybe using the formula 220-age) but showing what percentage above and below that maximum heart rate you are sitting, and triggering an alarm for very sudden heart rate increases (if the user suffers knowingly or otherwise from a heart arrhythmia issue - I found mine by accident on a rowing machine heart rate monitor and got it resolved).

With the information on Fitbit you can track what you heart is doing against what you are seeing on the rowing machine readout.

Many thanks

Please make it easy for indoor rowers to track activity levels. Once again, after "upgrading" to the Charge 2, I have to wait until the tech savy grands get here to help me figure it out. Pretty please. And thank you!

How many rowers does it take to get fitbit moving on this?

Dear all

Nice to see the support for rowing. However my experience is that the thing won't measure the heart rate when rowing because of all the wrist action. I'd just put the plastic in the bin and stop worrying

As I have said several times before, don't forget that you can use the 'workout' option for rowing, and edit it to call it Rowing, or Rowing  Machine - or whatever you want. As far as I can tell it gives you the information you need. Not as good as having the named option I know, but better than nothing.

This area is for receiving votes and presenting yoir case for the trason a suggestion should be implemented.

@UKdragoness yes it was a syandard reply, but you only contacted support,  not th ed developers. 500+ votes over a two year period? Ive seen some get this in a wwek.

Without votes your presentation as to why this is a good idea needs to be brought out with your A-Game.

That would be great, it's one of those activity I normally do in the morning and would be great keep a proper record of it!

For the time being I'm using the weight activity but of course is not the same so let's hope to get the chance to have it soon

concept 2 logbook can now write to fitbit, go to the concept logbook site to setup, unfortunately the heart rate does not copy across, the blaze is not bad with hr if in exercise mode but not as good as the chest strap. Distance, calories and times carry over, you still need to use the concept calorie calculator to get the correct calories or it just moves the standard concept weight calories over but on the fitbit app it lets you edit the calories on the data sent by concept

As a recreational rower (abeit lapsed) and recently adopted the ergo into my fitness programme (abeit sporadic!) its frustrating that rowing isnt an activity coveres by fitbit charge. Please please please add the option!

To the Moderator from Fitbit, who commented in Sept 2017:

Thanks for the lackluster "Great idea, but..." response to these 150 posts by Fitbit owners. Bu the fact is an irritating manual workaround is a ridiculous suggestion. We're talking about one of the fastest rising, most popular exercise sports in the USA, and sadly Fitbit not only is behind the times, but will soon be left in the dust. The new Apple Watch series 3 - just unveiled yesterday - now tracks rowing. I'm not sure if I have time to wait for the slow internal wake up to occur at Fitbit. I'm seriously considering getting the new Apple Watch.

Oh my gosh! I had not read that. Thank you! Great idea! I had to leave my water rower behind for a couple of months, but will get the kayak in the lake everyday weather and my old back will permit. Must row!

I'm very happy with the fitbit environment and my blaze. I would also invest in the newest realeased model. But I'm missing an embedded rowing measurement functionality.

I'd like to get the SPM (strokes per minute), the elapsed-time on 500m and used watts measured.

This is provided by the Garmin Fenix 3 for example.

After I bought a stationary rower, this features is getting important for me, as I cannot get use of my watch anymore.

I agree with ElegantScience!

Personally I've been waiting for Fitbit to fix this since April. In this time one of my Charge 2 straps has started to fall apart. Considering a new one will cost around half the price of the watch, it's a large possibillity that I will search for another watch instead.

It's pointless to log the rowing manually when you don't get to write the distance. It's time for Fitbit to step up and give the customers what we want before they lose all of us!

Must admit after 3 years of fitbit usage I am seriously considering a switch to Apple Watch. Whilst I know Apple don’t respond to customer inputs either, they already have the functionality I need so I won’t need to contact them 😞

@SunsetRunner You can get replacement straps from Amazon and eBay for less than £10 - and, of course, for a lot more!

@Jeffsand I have been happily using Fitbits for many years, but I have just ordered the new Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro which uses various apps which do include rowing, so I will see how that goes.

I started one of the posts about adding rowing as an exercise quite a while back - I actually re-started it as a moderator had closed an earlier one with a "manual fix."  Not a day goes by that I do not get an e-mail with a new comment post asking to add rowing.  I have also watched as the post I started has been merged again and again with other posts with the same request.  Apparently Apple Watch and I believe Garmin have this ability but not Fitbit.  I have long since stopped wearing my Fitbit as it's value to me has been lessened below the hassle to take it off and re-charge every few days - in large part due to the lack of this feature but also due to some other irregularities that I am personally "over."  I am discontinuing following this as I have given up on Fitbit.

Garmin has an app for rowing which I use regularly. I too have given up on Fitbit. If you wear a heart rate strap with the Garmin you get excellent readings

Yeah, it's certainly getting to that point. Fitbit just don't seem interested in keeping their users.
