Rowing/Stationary Rowing Machine Exercise Shortcut

Considering most of the important cardio equipment is represented in the Exercise list, I think it's more than justifiable to add a stationary rowing machine to the list. Almost every gym in America contains at least one or more Concept 2 rower as it is a total body and low impact method of Cardio. It's one of my favorites and I'm sure I am not the only user that is a bit disappointed that is not represented.

It does not link to the pm5 monitor on the concept 2 but if you use the ergdata app and log into the concept 2 logbook you can setup for your ergdata to send to the Fitbit app and this then adds to your daily data, just the heart rate data will not carry across but the Fitbits not bad at being close if you put it into excercise mode while rowing.

Bad ankle. Bad knee. Bad back . All I can do is row. Please add it to the list!

I really like the Charge 2 , but I am annoyed that it ignores my primary sports activity , rowing!.

Surely this can be added, as the fitbit can monitor the arm movement.

I agree. +1 Vote!

Another vote for a rowing machine exercise shortcut. It is really a pain to enter something so common as a "special activity".

What about with normal rowing?  I do both concept machine and jump in a boat.  I look across to my contemporaries who are recording their heart rates, distance, speed etc on their fitness trackers and I am wondering why I am sitting there with my Surge, which is likely more expensive, and suffering lack of capability.

I'm a Charge 2 user and I find that, while it does not have a "rowing" category, it does seem to estimate distance traveled and calories on my stationary rowing machine, so it's not all bad but it's disappointing that I can't record this activity in the logs.

Assuming that the Fitbit devices have a standard three-axis accelerometer, it would seem to be possible for the Charge 2 and similar devices to "detect" rowing exercise automatically given the repetitive horizontal "reach and pull" motion with virtually no vertical or lateral components.

It would be nice to see rowing added to the fitbit.

Please add support for the Concept 2 rowing machine or at least a generic "Rowing Machine" that is accurate.

C’mon developers...is there anyone listening?  I’m not seeing any responses from you.

Since Fitbit doesn't seem to respond to the many votes on adding (stationary) rowing to the trackers (mine was a Surge), I decided to get the Garmin Vivoactive 3 last weekend. Haven't had a chance to row with it yet but what I've seen so far, the Garmin is a little gem!

I have an old, non-smart, rowing machine and I've found that my Fitbit records the exercise reasonably accurately - I row two miles on the machine and it shows just under two miles on my wrist as steps ... frankly I'd trust the Fitbit slightly more than the machine, based on other testing that I've done, but realistically, they are both making estimates as to the exercise.  It's good enough for me - I'm just trying to stay fit so my needs are very basic and simple, just track exercise without trying to categorize it - at the end of the week I just have a "distance" score without knowing how I did the distance.  It's probably not for everyone but it works for me.

Edmund,
Do you record as a "Workout"? "Walk"? "Hike?

It records as "steps" and "distance" - obviously it's not really "steps" but it is distance and the workout is recorded as you can see below - this is about 20 minutes rowing - then a trip to the kitchen get some water (green), then I got on the treadmill and ran a mile followed by walking a mile.Capture.PNG

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm using the "e-sync" between Concept 2's
online logbook (which I fill out every morning anyway, since I row at home)
to my FitBit dashboard. It is working fine for now. FitBit's lack of
response is frustrating, for sure! Onward and upward. i'll check out the
Garmin. Thanks.

Nice find @WaCox I didn't realise this was possible, it doesn't show up Fitbit side but if you go into Edit Profile > Applications in Concept2 logbook it's there (also connects with Strava) will give it a go next time in the gym 😉

I just picked up a Fitbit Ionic watch and have a concept2 rower and would find the rowing exercise shortcut to be very useful as well.

Someone found under profile/applications a place to link Fitbit.

I just upgraded to the Charge 2, and was very surprised that rowing was not an exercise option. Please add it!

I saw a post that said we could submit our vote/request to add rowing. Does anybody know how to find this?
