SmartTrack - Rowing

It would be great if SmartTrack could recognise the motion of rowing - ergo, sculling or sweep oar.  As indicated by one of the moderators these are not 'steps' but there is a defined motion and I would imagine that this could be differentiated.  Once recognised, the rowing rate could be shown / logged alongside the heart rate.
Maybe a bit specialist for Fitbit's user base, but if the GPS was to be used in conjunction with SmartTrack, a rolling 500m split time alongside the rowing rate could be displayed and logged when on the water, which if accurate I'm sure rowing users would pay extra for.

Hi,

I know this was in January but I totally agree with this, as a Dragonboat paddler i would really find it useful if i could use my fitbit for my exercise tracking.....

I'm a competitive rower.

I just bought a Blaze, took it out on the water and discovered that not only did it not recognize the motion as activity, it didn't even register the doubling of my resting heart rate as active minutes.

It would be great if it would recognize these things, especially without the presence of my iPhone, which I am loathe to take out on the water.

Thanks!

The activities that the Fitbit Blaze currently auto recognizes are currently predominately lower body movements,

IMHO an attempt should be made to recognize more upper body exercises such as in rowing and many machines used in gyms.

Alternatively  it may be easier to identify an extended period of significantly raised heart rate combined with unidentifiable motions

as being some generic form of "other exercise"

Given that your UK TV ad used to feature rowing, I was disappointed to see that fitbit does not recognize rowing as an activity. The movement should be super easy to recognize so I really hope this feature will be added soon.

I bought a charge2 thinking that my rowing machine time would be logged but no.

Rowing machine is my near-daily cardio - would really love a less-manual way of tracking it with my Blaze.

For the most part, I'm very happy with my Blaze. But I really hate having to manually log my time on the rower. It's such a popular exercise, I was really surprised to find this out.

How is rowing not an option? GOLF? Martial Arts is on here but not rowing????  I’m puzzled and beyond irritated. Please add

Rowing is in promo material but not a recognized activity... And golf and yoga make the cut.

Guess which major competing fitness watches include rowing? Um yeah, both of them.

Rowing was one of the sports in the first modern Olympic Games over a hundred years ago... Time for FB to get with the times.

Please add Rowing to be recognized by tracker. I just bought a rowing machine and was disappointed that my Fitbit Alta HR would not recognize the workout.

Please add rowing/erg to the tracker. I just bought the ionic but was very disappointed with the list of exercises it recognizes. Considering refunding.

Also not happy with the limited app selection, the requirement to use media player or itunes for music sync, and the necessity for a bluetooth dongle for my PC when the ionic has wifi.

As the concept 2 rowing machine is my primary fitness machine, the addition of rowing tracking would be greatly appreciated. The ability to use the heart rate monitoring of my charge 2 on the PM5 would be good integration too.

I also think that a rowing exercise is sorely missing. As was mentioned before there are now many exercises listed that are not step based and other fitness watches do identify rowing so it shouldn't be too hard to add this. I really like my new Ionic and am happy to wait for more apps like UK banks for wallet and Spotify for music as this requires agreement with third parties but adding rowing to the mix is key in my view. I also subscribed to Fitbit Coach to balance my exercise out in 2018 but as my main cardio driver I row 40-80 km a week and I know many others do as well...

Please add rowing as an exercise on the fitbit blaze. I cannot run, or use an ellptical due to back issues and rowing is easier on my joints. I asked for a Blaze for Xmas and when I set it up, I was disappointed to see rowing was not in the list. Please let me know when an update is available.  Thank you for your time.

They even wrote a blog about how great rowing is. Talk about tone deaf.

I would like fitbits to detect rowing either indoor or outdoor rowing. Smiley Happy

Martial Arts? Really? Anybody does it with watches on a wrist?

What Martial Art? Karate or Jujitsu are so different (and I love to see both of them with guys wearing watches).

But no rowing! Simple rowing that has recognizable pattern, that competitor trackers recognize and track and which is every gym and in Olympic sports for ages!

This is really ridiculous...

I would like to add my voice to this as well. Please add rowing/rowing machine to the list of recognized exercises. It really is ridiculous that activities such as golf are recognized but not rowing.

Thank You
