Stop Watch Split Times

Hi,

I am getting back into running and use an old timex as well as my Fitbit because of the timing feature. I can set my watch to cycle through a 1 minute period and then a 10 minute period for however many times.

It would be great if I could do this with the stopwatch on the Fit Blaze.

Can we make that change?

Thanks,

This may seem petty, but also seems like an easy fix. I'll describe my frustration with the current "Lap Run" mode.

The beauty of lap mode is to be able to accurately measure time over specific distances. Whether that be around a block in your neighborhood, or on a track. Track workouts can greatly benefit from a watch in "Lap Mode" b/c you can run 400m repeats w/ rest in between and keep track of the specific splits.

The current problem, as far as I can tell, with the lap function on the Surge, is that you either can select to "Pause" during your run, OR, "Lap" to trigger a new lap, but you can't do both at once. The problem here is when doing repeats. If you hit "Lap" first, then hit stop, your next repeat is going to be off by a few seconds. If you hit "Pause", then when you're ready to start your next repeat you hit "Start" then "Lap", your previous repeat will be off by a few seconds. But when you're paused, it only gives you an option to "Start" or "Finish Run."

The fix seems simple. Allow for a "Lap" to happen while paused. That way, when you hit "Start" for a new lap, your lap time has refreshed. THEN, to finish the run, simple hold the "Lap" button down for an extended period of time (say 3 or 5 seconds.) This would also help prevent accidental "Finishes" on runs even on "Free Run" mode or any other exercise mode for that matter.

I've benefited from this type of usage on other watches and has been one of my only real bothers on the new Surge. Great product besides that!

With the latest update to the Surge, we got a stopwatch feature. That's great, but it seems incredibly spartan. Can we have split times added to it? Right now, it just seems to only let you start, pause, and reset the stop watch. It should also let you store split times while you're running the stop watch.

I don't know if this has been addressed. I didn't find much on this.
I think this is a simple issue that can be addressed and fixed on the next update. I run for college and we do interval training. I record all my runs in a journal and i find myself having to memorize my splits because once I'm out of exercise mode my Lap Times are gone for good. I suggest making it so that when you go to your dashboard (app or online) it shows your lap times under splits instead of your GPS calculated mile or average pace for distances under 1mile. The last update with the notifications of mile splits with the mile split time kept the surge on my wrist. So keep up the improvements! This one seems easily solvable and much needed for ppl who actually run with the watch

Please add a lap function to the Fitbit Surge so I can do timing on track or interval training on the road. It's very frustrating that I have to run with two watches when I hit the track to measure my times!!!

Have you tried the "Lap Run" mode that is already in the Surge?

I have tried the "lap run" mode and have not found a way to see the "laps" after the run has been recorded.  I know on my Garmin 910 XT I can just hit the lap button and I see what the lap time is.  Actually my 60 lap casio wrist watch does the same thing.  I see the lap splits and mile splits when I review the workouts, but they only appear to be the same thing for my free run data.

Keeping Pace

I agree!  I have aMicrosoft fitness band as well as a fitbit blaze and the one thing fitbit is lacking in comparison to the Microsoft dashboard is a record of lap time, splits, and trophie for achieving personal bests in pace, distance, duration and calorie burn.

If Fitbit could address this I'd be very happy.

Just bought a Blaze and noticed there is no lap time option within the Timer function. This is a key tool and a basic option found on the stopwatch/timer function of most devices. Please upgrade the software to include.

When running/walking it'd be nice to be able to mark a lap at a random interval instead of only by minutes or miles. The mile splits are nice. But there still needs to be a way to mark a lap

Yes please...also include more functionality in the countdown timer. I need better resolution than 5 seconds. I do interval sprints that get better with each achieved goal. Thus, I need timers with 1 second resolutions. Also it would be nice if I can create a set (5-10) preset timer values so I don't have to change the settings with each new inteval distance mid workout. Finally, a mode of the countdown timer that counts down, vibrates, and restarts the countdown without user input would be nice. Adding these 3 features: 1 second resolution on set times, preset intervals (through app or on device), and continous operation mode will enable many users to start using this product more effectively on interval and cross fit type exercises. (I'm using the Blaze-hopefully this is the correct forum).

I refuse to by an activity watch that doesn't have a solid lap timer. I had the charge hr and just got tired of wearing it and my iron man to record laps. I will purchase the blaze when it has solid lap/split/interval timers

It's nice that the Surge lets you track splits, but it would be great if it logged "lap runs" as "lap runs" and not simiple "runs". Would also be great to be able to see split times on the website (map or no map).

Hi.  Just got my Surge 2.  What an awesome little device.  I would however like to request the addition of the following feature in your next firmware roll-out:

Ability to manually measure lap times using Stopwatch.

I frequently take lap times during live Motorsports events as I am involved with setting up various race cars (It is informal I know, but it gives you an idea of how competitors are doing).  It would be really cool if the surge had the ability to take lap times instead of just the continuous time currently in use with the Stopwatch feature.

Possible implementation:

1.  use button to navigate to Stopwatch function

2.  Hold to navigate into sub-menu.

3. Sub-menu consists of the following options:

Continuous time

Lap time

Split time

OR

Add a separate lap time stopwatch option which can be activated through the app.

Yes!  A split/lap timer for Blaze please.  I really like my blaze,  but for all the awesome things it does I have to go back to my timex to keep track of my splits in real time. Its a real drag.

Agreed! I like to do track workouts as a part of my training and it would be really nice to have a split time instead of having to carry around my watch as well as having my Blaze. I also sync to Strava, so having laps that actually represent what my workout was would be awesome.

Fitbit desperately needs to add this. Seems like such a simple thing that is missing. I run on a 1/9 mile track and would love to track each lap's split time.

It would be great if the GPS splits showed the time for the split instead of the pace of the split.

That’s an interesting idea and could be useful, thanks for sharing this suggestion.

I would like repeated timers, accessible from within exercises, on the Charge 4.

The timer app only allows me to do start, stop and reset.
I think a split time would be useful, like on every digital watch I've ever owned.

The lack of this feature seems to be a massive oversight

Hi @HakunaMancheste, thanks for taking the time to share your feedback about the possibility of allowing the stopwatch or timer to be split in different timers. This feature suggestion already exists, so I’ve moved your post here, this helps to keeps the boards more organized. Make sure to add your vote as well to support this suggestion, this helps the team of developers to keep track of popularity and demand over time. You can also vote for this idea about split timer at the gym.
