Stop count steps during non-running workout

I have a Fitbit ionic, but this is referred to all the other Fitbit trackers. Why should the track counting steps during non-step oriented workout? For example if I start a workout from the watch and do some sets of pull-ups, why it count steps? In that way the calories counted at the end of the day are way off, and the tracker itself became useless
