Support Google Workspace accounts to log in to Fitbit account

Right now people like myself that use a Google Workspace (so not something [at] gmail.com) account as their main account, are locked out of Fitbit "login with Google" features - and our accounts can't be migrated.

I'm in the same boat. Been using Fitbit for a decade and google workspace account even longer. I won't create another google account just to continue using Fitbit. It will be time for a switch instead.

Samsung just announced a new line of Watches (series 6) with some fancy features... Maybe it's time to explore this direction. Samsung has no issue working with Google Workspace accounts...

I'm only on Fitbit because I bought a Pixel watch and I was forced into Fitbit. I wish I could keep using Google Fit. It supported more scales, and in general did a better job integrating with other brands.

But since I'm stuck with Fitbit, I'm not gonna be happy if I can't use the workspace account that I created on my custom domain. I've had this email for over ten years. I've never had a @Gmail.com address, and I don't plan to anytime soon.

I find it frustrating that I pay for a Google account, and yet I'm frequently prevented from using services that free accounts enjoy. I understand why an organization might want to block certain services, but in this case it's simply not an option. I would love to see them add support... this is the only account I use and if Fitbit accounts are ultimately going away, I need this to work. Not blaming Fitbit here. Just frustrated.

My mom has a Fitbit with a workspace account she's used for over 20 years.  She's 75, and I don't see how I could ever get her to start over with a new email account.  Most likely, she'll stop using the device, or merely move to an Apple Watch.

Unfortunately, this is just the way Google treats workspace accounts, and no amount of complaining here to Fitbit is going to change it.  The decision is completely out of their hands.  To me it makes absolutely no sense, but it is what it is.  The only solution is to either maintain two google accounts (your workspace account and a consumer account), or make a conscious decision to move away from Google Services that require a consumer account.  I chose the latter.

This is a problem of how Google is treating its 'workspace' accounts in general.

There is massive amount of users (like me) who only use 'workspace' to have a custom domain email address.

Last year's push to disable legacy workspace plan was a proof of that.

Luckily Google backtracked.

Why won't they just give people option to have a regular Google account with custom domain.

For those who are Google lovers I'm sorry, but it appears that Google is taking over everything, including our Fitbits. I have a Workspace manages google account for all my students that I've purchased Fitbits for, and now I have to create all new accounts for my students--personal accounts-- in order to set up new devices. Can I just say this is making me not want to purchase any more Fitbit products. If Fitbit would allow Google Workspace accounts then I would not hesitate continuing to purchase and use these amazing products. When can we expect that to happen?

Google does allow administrators to toggles permissions for things like
Google Fi cellular service, but there are other weird things that are
forbidden. For example, your office is not allowed to use a nest
thermostat.

I took a break from using/wearing my Fitbit device for a few months and came back to the migration message.  I'm one of the Google Workspace folks, so am unable to migrate presently and would like to have workspace migration supported.

I also use a Google Workspace account and want to have Fitbit support that account instead of requiring a separate one.

I have the same problem, my only google account is a Google Workspace account set up so I can use my own domain for my email.

It's been a good run, but after almost 10 yrs, 7 Fitbits, and 28M steps tracked, I'm moving on to Apple. Time to try something new.

If Google doesn't get its act together by 2025, the rest of my fam will likely follow (we have a workspace account for our family that everyone uses).

In the same boat as basically everyone here. I've been using a Google Workspace (previously G Suite) account for over a decade, and they're treating me like I'm actually more of an inconvenience than the free customers who don't pay.

The fact they had to go out of their way to block Workspace accounts (that's not something that is automatically disabled when integrating a Google account as Oauth) really shows how much they value their paying customers.

I'm not completely closing the door on a future Fitbit, but I definitely won't be upgrading to a new model until this "feature request" is fixed. If my device breaks before then or I decide to get a new device, then I guess I'm no longer a Fitbit customer 🤷‍:male_sign:

The new Pixel Watch 2 reportedly will require Fitbit to logins with Google Account. Yet, all of the people that are using Google Workspace and their existing Fitbit accounts are based on that same email, are locked out and cannot transition to Google Account, again even if their original Fitbit account was based on that same Workspace email. On the other hand, the same Google Workspace account can be use and have accounts with Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, with no limitations whatsoever with full access across all of their services including Health(!), yet a Google Workspace Account, within Google's own ecosystem just makes you a second-class citizen with so many limitations, now including a Fitbit block(!). There are millions of people with 10+ years of using a workspace account as their Google Account. What exactly is the expectation from Google here? Create a new Gmail account and start from scratch? This is pure madness, seriously i do not know what else to say.

Samsung Health works perfectly (and their watches) with Google Workspace accounts... That's where I'll turn (since I have a Samsung Galaxy phone) if at some point I can't log into Fitbit with my Workspace account. Simple as that. One of their watches costs 3 to 4 years of Fitbit premium subscription... but Samsung Health doesn't need a subscription. I guess it evens out reasonably fast...

I've been a Fitbit user since January, 2012 and a Google Workspace (Google for Domains) since 2000.  I can't migrate my account.  I have ZERO interest in replacing my email address which is used in hundreds of locations - my current email address will live as long as I live.  If my Fitbit fails, and replacements like the Pixel Watch 2 mandate a non-Workspace account, I will be forced to switch to another tracker platform. My wife is also a Fitbit and Workspace user.

I'd be ok with migrating to a normal Gmail account as long as I can keep my email address for incoming and outgoing email. I'd even pay a small monthly fee to do so. I will NOT change email addresses. Make the migration work or lose a customer - it's only a matter of time before this Fitbit needs replacement.

I have a pre-order for the Pixel Watch 2 and apparently it requires your Google account to be linked to your Fitbit account. As I have a workspace account, this makes the entire Pixel Watch 2 incompatbile with my account. Please fix this arbitrary limitation ASAP.

@awgneo , cancel your order or be prepared to use a non-workspace account.  I would not expect Google to fix this soon, if ever.

Just another +1.  Over a decade of fitbit usage data that I can't migrate, nor do I want another google account.

I've recently preordered the pixel watch 2 and now I worry that I won't be able to use it since all my other health tracking is tied to my workspace account. I'm starting to think this is going to be the nail in the coffin for my 10 year android career. At least apple supports tracking with my 15+ year old email account. Is this going to be solved in near time or am I better off cancelling the order?

I'm in the same boat, ordered Pixel 8 Pro with Pixel Watch 2 and will not be able to use it. I do not have a GMail account and do not plan to have one. I use exclusively a grandfathered GSuite/Workspace account under my personal/family domain.

Google sucks and they still have not allowed users to migrate Nest account to Google account for the same reason and I don't think Fitbit account will be any different. I think I will have to cancel my Google order and get myself Garmin or finally start wearing a bulky Apple Watch Ultra that collects dust for months now. If this is not resolved urgently before Pixel Watch 2 is in user hands I think myself and other Google/Fitbit/Nest users will have to thing hard if it is worth investing money in products from company that does not care about long time and loyal customers.

I would also love to be able to use my new watch with my regular workspace account.

It's annoying and frustrating trying to get things to behave sensibly, and sync up, when forced to use a non-workspace account for some things.

Same problem here. Been using Google Workspace since before they even called it that. Set it up when it was first offered by Google and they were actively encouraging you to set it up for your family so you could have a personalized domain. I'm tired of being screwed over because Google now decides that workspace is only for businesses and I should have known better than to set it up for my family personal use.  When is this going to be fixed?
