Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Fitbit says it monitors this board. Well, people have been asking for the macros that appear in the online dashboard to be made available within the app. for the almost 2YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I realize that this is not a money-maker but really Fitbit. Why don't you adhere to the original concept of a health and fitness monitor rather than promoting a social network.

This is absolutely nuts. Got my Fitbit back in the box because I need this feature. I now use myfitnesspal to track my macros again and I can't understand why fitbit is not able to deliver some basic information they already display in their web application in the iOS client. Cmon guys you can't just ignore 932 upvotes for this feature which should be pretty easy to implement if your code architecture is not crappy as hell.

you can't just ignore 932 upvotes

Just watch them do just that.

Sure they can ignore 932 votes.  I have thrown in the towel and made the switch (back) to My Fitness Pal.  Their app tracks macro very nicely.  I also paid for the year premium version.  Too bad fitbit didn't want my money.  I recommend everyone else who wants macro tracking to switch to MYFITNESSPAL and quit wasting time voting for that feature here.  MFP integrates acceptably with fitbit.

It's nice to see I'm not alone with this request. I an having to use two apps to get all info I need to be successful in my fitness/health goals. For what we invest in our fitbit, It would be nice to see the app cover all nutrition & macfnutrition info

Seriously, it's been two years since someone first posted about adding macros (which you have on the website, just link it to the app dashboard) and over 930 votes to get this feature added.

All we need are the basics for now is a dashboard app that displays Total Carbs, Fats, and Protein from the foods we input.

Come on! Stop wasting time integrating Pokémon go with Fitbit and provide this basic need that consumers need for weightlifting, dieting, carb counting and so much more! You're losing customers because you aren't listening.

I already voted, and I thin I commented before. Not sure what else to do at this point to make it clear that this feature is needed in the app. It would be a pretty simple to add, so I don't understand the resistance from Fitbit.

It might be 2 years, but since people keep starting new threads on this suggestion how is any one going to know if the public wants this. Currently I find 6+ threads with 26 votes in total.

And when have you seen a developer leave any response? The only time I see any response is when a suggested feature gets implemented.

I haven't 😞 I wish there was a better method to show how important this attribute is.

If you have a better solution. Feel free!

I totally agree. I used S Health before and one of my favourite (and most interesting/helpful) features was to be able to see my macros from the meals I had (protein, sugar, fibre, vitamins, etc.). Since I'm using FitBit I stopped logging my food there because it would be silly and too time-consuming to log foods in both apps - but I really miss it.

I would love to see a similar feature in Fitbit.

Are you guys going to add nutritional facts and macros to the app? I feel like we are missing a whole part of the fitness world not having that on the app, I love the Fitbit! I would just love to be able to delete an app that I have just to track the macros, because you guys do not offer it.

I would like to be able to choose which nutrition facts I need to record as I have to watch my potassium, sodium, carbs, and cal and protein and not so much any thing else right now so if the customers could choose I think that would be great.

I just love my fitbit. This would be a great help for me and I am sure it would be to others too.

 thank you

Add macro counter to App!

This is exactly why I came to this forum - to suggest that the breakdown of nutrients be added - carbohydrates, sugar, fiber, etc.  I'm learning to become more 'health-conscious' with my food choices and the current display of information does not really help me... knowing how I'm doing on some of these other choices will be much better.  Other apps do this well - but I'm looking to fitbit to be my one-stop-shop for tracking.  Thanks!

I've been using my fitbit for a few years & I'm surprised that after so many people have requested microtracking for THIS LONG that it STILL hasn't been added to the mobile app! Its unrealistic to ask people to check in on their computer multiple times a day, as we are all busy people & don't always have time to access our computers. Also, to ask us to go through another app like MyFitnessPal, which has TERRIBLE syncing, is also stupid. Just add the macrotracking to your app Fitbit! Thats the ENTIRE point of tracking food. Who cares how many calories you've eaten if its all Twinkies?! Seriously, not having this simple thing on the mobile app, when it is (and has been) important to the people supporting your company by buying your product, is just mind blowing. I'm ashamed of you guys for still not having this

Totally agree.

MyFitnessPal app does just this. It can be integrated with the Fitbit app, but why do that when all the macros are already available. I've used MyFitnessPal and like the way it calculates and tracks these macros, but to integrate the numbers into Fitbit requires a complicated procedure of turning off some records, turning on others then tracking the meals in MyFitnessPal leading to data duplication.

Here's some information from the FitBit site!

MyFitnessPal - 3rd party integration into Fitbit

It's so complicated.  Let's simplify it and do all this in the fitbit app.

Yes...it has been too long having to wait for macro info to be added. Was planning on upgrading to Blaze or higher.  Changed my mind.  DEFINATELY NOT PLANNING ON MAKING ANOTHER PURCHASE.

OUTSTANDING summarization of a common concern, aurrore!

I strongly second that motion for improving the app by mirroring existing functionality on browser version of dashboard!  The need is urgent , as evidenced by the 1000+  "me too" conments on your post!

So I was looking at the food tracker because I'm having sync issues with MFP. What I noticed was no evidence that you track fat, carb and protein grams. Is this on your list to add? And please tell me you are working on the innacuarcies in the food database?

If not, are you working on clearer sync directions or with MFP to smooth the issues?
