Track Macros in App (daily carbs/protein/fat intake)

The browser log shows a breakdown of your macros for the day, and this is extremely useful, but it is absent in the app. For many people, including myself, it's not only important to track your calorie intake for the day, but also your macronutrient intake (carbohydrates, protein, and fat). When I'm considering my next meal or planning my food for the day, I want to know how much of each macronutrient I have eaten so far, so I don't go overboard. As a busy individual, most of my food logging is done through the app. However, I can not track my macronutrients through the app, which makes it hard for me to regulate my intake.

Here is an example of the "daily totals" macro tracker on the Fitbit browser log:

macros.png

Extremely helpful. Not only does it show how many grams of each macro I've consumed for the day, but it also shows the percentage of my daily consumption for each macro. The aforementioned is a fabulous feature because I split my daily macro targets into percentages (ie; 30% carbs, 35% fat, 35% protein). This allows to see me where I'm at so far, or even log everything I INTEND to eat and see where that would leave me. Then, I can make adjustments. Really a great feature.

But, again, it's not available on the app. And I think it's really important that this be added, for several reasons:

  • A lot of people log most of their food through the day via app because of time restrictions/lack of access to a computer.
  • Real time macronutrient tracking helps everyone to meet their goals and adjust planned meals based on where their macronutrients currently stand.
  • Macronutrient tracking is just as important as calorie tracking. We need a balance of macronutrients to be happy and healthy.
  • Easily accessible (app) macronutrient tracking will help people to see patterns in their diet which are causing them to fall short of what they need, therefore helping them improve their diet.
  • Diet and what you eat is just as important as how many calories you consume. Being able to see the macronutrient numbers alongside the calorie numbers will help people become more aware of their diet.

Please give us macronutrient tracking in the app! It's such a wonderful feature of the browser log, and should definitely be prioritized for including it in the app log. Fitbit is an amazing product and can really help people turn their lifestyles around for the better, and adding the macronutrient tracker to the app will only further help those who need direction in the area of diet.

Hi, new to Fitbit and this feature was something I just (wrongly it seems) expected already in 2017, how can this feature still be missing after years of being requested? It's a feature that's been available in free apps, and has been for years.

Having spent a lot of money on the Fitbit tracker and scales it's unacceptable frankly that the developers of the app can't take some data and turn it into a pie chart/graph to use as a dashboard.  What is the point of the changeable dashboards in the app if there aren't any to choose from?

I see post from 3+ years ago asking for this macro...whats up FITBIT?... everyone uses their phones, we can't always login to see the macro report....please please please add it to your app.  This way we don't need other apps to track.  Would be nice if you gave everyone an update on if you're even considering this feature to be turned on the app

I am a new Fitbit user.  I am disapointed to not be able to track my carb consumption.  I am a Ketone dieter who has been using a carb app and was hoping to transfer.  After getting the fitbit, I see there is no carb counter only calories.  Although I keep an eye on my calories, I track my carb consumption.  Is there anyway to get that on the app?

Please do this.  It wouldn't be that hard to add since you obviously have the data.  Or let us just enter the carbs manually for starters.  As a type 1 diabetic, I was so hoping the fitbit would help me not have to carry a piece of paper around to log carbs.  Anyway, I'm new to fitbit and there are many things I like.

Maybe also add a logic tree for diabetics when setting up goals.  PLEASE. 🙂

How has it been over 2 years and this has not been added?  23 pages of comments wanting a truly helpful feature and no update?  Not being able to track macros will lead to discouraging results as they are vital data to some diet routines.  Please add the macro bar to the dashboard.

Not having this in the app really hurts the usefulness of diet tracking within fitbit. Relying on a third-party app isn't acceptable when this information is readily available on your website.

Since Fitbit does not have a good program for Carbs, and i am a diabetic, can anyone recommend a good app for tracking carbs? On IPAD?
Also, a good app for meal planning? Maybe a monthly calendar, where i can plan monthly or weekly meals, and keep track of projected Carbs? And move meals around easily .

It would be really helpful to implement macros tracking in the fitbit app. Having to go between two different apps is not useful or time efficient. Having the food log connect to more widely available food lists would be amazing. http://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list

Huge +1 from me. I'm a bikini competitor, and flexible dieter. The app is so gorgeous! I want to add my foods here, but only having calorie options isn't enough for me. I need to know that I'm hitting my carbs/fat/protein/fiber during my day. Would love to have it in one place instead of going through myfitnesspal. GOALS. Let's do this fitbit!!

I track my protein, carbs and fats on a daily basis on top of my calories in. Please display the daily food totals on the mobile dashboard as well as the online site. This would make counting macros so much easier!

Agreed.  We need to be able to pick the daily totals we want to see. eg. I track carbs and not real concerned with total calories.

I 100% percent agree that it would be helpful to have macro tracking and more detailed nutrition tracking on the app and was going to write in a suggestion on this myself.  Real time access to calories in versus out and the macros is a huge key to success.  There are some other apps out there that allow you to do this (MyFitnessPal, for example), but it'd be nice to have it all in one place and not have to use several apps.

I was thinking it'd be nice to have another icon on the dashboard that would have a pie chart showing the percentage of proteins/carbs/fats logged for the day.  When you click on the icon, you could have the option to set your macro goals (since it is different for different goals).  It could also show your total daily nutritional breakdown of calories, fats, sugars, cholesterol, fiber, etc. and the user could also set limits on each of these and have them turn green, yellow, red when you're in zone, close to your limit, over your limit, etc.

Something like this would really go a long way to help users optimize their nutrition and reach their goals faster and smarter.

I've been waiting for the macro info forever on Fitbit. It really surprises me its not a tile option. Literally millions of people follow keto. The fact that Fitbit doesn't is one of the biggest things that makes me want to switch to another tracker/provider. Well, that and they can't seem to figure out that all the units need to be waterproof. I just don't get that either.

They clearly don't read this, and/or employ idiots who can't do basic programming. Think it's time to leave Fitbit in the past where they belong

As a person that has recently been diagnosed with diabetes, tracking more than just calories is critical. Regulating carbs and protein could a matter of life and death. It can't be that hard to provide goals since the data its already logged with each food.

I would like to see an option to log carbs fat and protein not just calories. My diet requires me to count carbs, fat and protein.

I think that fitbit needs a "Measurements" tab to track our neck, waist, arms, etc.

Hi fitbit!

I love the food tracker on the app and how i can easily see calories in vs calories out. I think it would be amazing to be able to use the fitbit app to also track macronuitrients like protein, carbs and fats for an even more in depth look at diet for those who would choose to use the feature. They say 70% of fitness or weightloss is about what you eat and i feel this would be a valuable addition to the app and a way to refine food goals.

Thankyou for your time

Hello all,

I recently spoke with someone from Fitbit and they are infact working on adding this. They did not give a time frame but said that this forum was seen and that they will be adding the macros.
