Turn off quick view when I'm sleeping (or at customizable times) aka 'Night Mode'

I love the quick view feature however when I'm sleeping I tend to wave my arms around which activates the display which sometimes wakes me up, especially if my wrist is close to my face.

My fitbit knows when I'm sleeping as it tracks my sleep so how about having the capability to disable quick view automatically whilst I'm sleeping, in fact don't even have it as a selectable option just don't trigger quick view when my fitbit knows I'm sleeping.

I would like to be able to turn off the screen while sleeping.  When it comes on during normal sleeping it is very annoying and it interrupts my sleep.

If I could’ve just push the button quickly 3 times to turn it off or other simple action it would be so nice.

I would like this feature added to the next software update. Thank you.

How many votes does it take to get anything fixed ???? would bet this one
is at the TOP of the list and has been for years..

Indeed it has, but it appears that Fitbit is struggling under the weight of competition and all resources are being put to new hardware and none (or limited) to software updates.

Commercial reality, I'm afraid to say. I would love for Fitbit to prove me wrong though!

Thanks JC.
It appears I really struck a nerve here. I had no idea so many people find this annoying. And apparently enough toss their Fitbit in the drawer or trash.
I remember another computer company that I purchased several units from, until it tossed customer service in the dumpster.
Then I moved on.
I believe it was called Gateway.

@LuciaFitbit

In about a month, this request is four years old. FOUR YEARS! It has 7300 upvotes, is one of the top requests.

I've done some programming, and if such a feature takes more than two days of work, I would be surprised. Let's say it takes a full week, plus another week for testing. This is a lot easier to implement than a Spotify agent, which will need a lot more work. So what's keeping you? I see it's "under review". What is there to review? This is such a simple and basic functionality. It seems obvious that you don't care about your users. We bought your product, we paid for it, real money.

You say you care about health, about sleeping....

But you don't show it!!!

Everyone that wants this feature - unless we make enough noise about it, it will never happen,

If everyone contacted live chat every day, and asked the chat person why this is not implemented, that it has been on the list for over four years and has thousands of votes, PERHAPS management will allocate the necessary resources for it.

However, the commercial reality is that Fitbit is suffering, revenue is only generated from hardware sales, which require extensive R&D costs, while software enhancements are a cost only.

The other reality is that while this might work, we would not get enough people doing it to make a difference.

Pity

ArchieP,

Sorry for the delay. I’m new to this method of communication so I don’t know if it’ll be posted or just to you.

I also can’t seem to figure out how to vote on various responses. But back to your response.

Concerning your last post, as it’s been 5 years and 7,000+ messages from users to address what seems to be a simple update, I’ve concluded that if Fitbit took legitimate well intentioned product enhancement messages seriously, this one would have been instituted 6,000 messages ago.

Successful companies strive to minimize customers pain and dissatisfactions quickly or don’t have customers.

I do see many several “wishes” for features that to me, don’t add much value to the product. More fluff than substance.

Just my take on the subject of value added improvements. I’m sure other users feel differently.

In almost 4 years, over 7,300 votes across multiple devices.  This should be such an easy fix.  If people knew of this issue, I doubt there would be so many newer customers.  Time to start providing some real feedback and reviews on merchant sites?

Three options when it comes to the display:

• button only - only pushing the physical button will turn on the screen

• double-tap - quick tapping the screen twice _AND_ the button will turn on the screen

• gesture - all three options available for the user to turn on the display.

If not this, then give us a DO NOT WAKE option that can specify a range of times not to turn on the screen or receive notifications.

This would be amazing! I have a Versa and  have the same issues with the screen being waaaay too bright, even though I always leave it on the "dim" setting (which is still overly bright, imho). Being able to further reduce the display brightness would be wonderful, and seems like it would be beneficial for battery longevity as well 🙂

I've turned off Screen Wake but the screen still turns on at night which even on the dim brightness level is very bright.  Please provide ability to shut off the screen display completely between specific hours. Pressing the button should be the only way to turn on the display between these specific hours

And I had such high hopes when my Fitbit prompted me for an update... but no... after the update there’s still no way of turning the screen off completely during sleep.

The ‘dimmed’ light of the screen still wakes me up multiple times a night, even though I’ve turned off screen activation... and it’s in sleep mode. Ugh!

Starting to really regret buying a Fitbit to track my sleep, since most nights it’s ‘dimmed’ light is waking me up more often than my sleeping disorder does. ‌‌

So please, please fix this issue!

Many years, many votes further and many easy options to fix this, as @brutus001 and many others already described. So what’s keeping you, what’s there to consider...?

I agree with Tim1023. The watch shouldn't come on at all during designated nighttime hours (same hours as "Do Not Disturb" setting on my phone). It should only come on during those hours if I press the button.

I've since found a workaround that works well for me. It's an app for the Versa called Stop Light by Ben Perkins.

This is an app, not a watch face, so you don't have to deal with that annoying limitation of only one clock face on the watch at a time. When running, it shows the time briefly in a much reduced form (smaller, therefore generating less light).

I've placed the app in the lower left of my app list on the watch so that I can activate it with the bottom key on the right. Disable it simply with the back button. A very simple app, but also very effective.

This is the first new feature I would want: night mode that keeps the screen from waking during sleep.  I am a restless sleeper and the screen wakes me up regularly.  I would recommend a Do Not Disturb setting to set a start and stop time like I do on my phone.  Plus, this would really improve battery life.  The weeks where I routinely remember to set Screen Wake to manual before bed, I get another day or so of charge.

DGB1970,
All good suggestions. I would say that if you’ve set up your regular sleep start/stop times then the watch “should” be programmed to default to a “no time display” mode during these set times unless it’s manually defeated in a simple way.
That’s the way it should be but obviously is not.

I had been considering getting a Charge 3. Not going to happen.
The tiny increase in display size was the primary reason.
The Charge 3 probably has the same annoying display feature so that’s strike one.
Fitbit doesn’t appear to be interested in incorporating this improvement strike two.
The watch faces in the Charge 3 have been reduced to half the number of what’s offered on the Charge 2 with no ability to download or customize a face to your liking, strike three.

After the latest Fitbit update (Charge 3) I saw an option "activate screen". This appears when I hold the side button for a second. I disable "activate screen" and since then this problem is solved for me.

I'm confused by this because I've never seen this option before, and it seems like this resolves this problem, but this feature request is still "under consideration". I can see that this can be improved, but for me this is good enough.

Markeden,
What is the current software version on your Fitbit Charge 2?
I don’t have that option when pushing the button while the time display is on.
Thx

Hi Gasatict, I have a Charge 3. It could be that the Charge 2 doesn't have this, although I see no reason why it could not have it.

Gasatict

Markeden,
Ah. That explains it. Well it appears the Charge 3 has the ability to turn off the display while you’re trying to sleep if I’m reading this right. Good.
If you read the history on this line of texts you’ll see the Charge 2 is deficient in this aspect. 7,000+ texts/complaints and I think 5 years from a lot of customers?
I might be mistaken but I think I’m pretty close.
Thanks for your input anyway.

Gasatict and Markaden,

Unfortunately for the Charge 3 the option you’re talking about (hold the side button, then tap activate screen) only means it won’t light up / turn on when you turn / flick your wrist (like you do when you want to see what time it is). However the screen still lights up whenever you accidentally touch it, and even worse, when your bedsheets touch it, your pajama sleeve touches it, .... etc.

Basically the screen still lights up in the middle of the night in the dark if ANYTHING touches it! So. Very. Annoying.
