Tying a kids account to an adult account.

i want my 12 year to be able to use his ChargeHR. We chose it because of the time feature. This is my 8th Fitbit purchase as a gift. Instead of shutting kids out, give us the ability to set up an account for them but it has to be tied to parent or guardian account. As in I have to put my email address and password in to active the account or give permission. You are missing the boat on this one. You are an intelligent group of people. Think outside the box.

Same problem. I'm surprised there hasn't been a 3rd party app to figure out how to do this. I'm shocked a family dashboard isn't a feature.

I wholeheartedly agree with the parent/child/family profile that would sync multiple devices.  If that's not possible (of course it is), then I plead with you to create a way to make sign-in (on mobile devices) easier.  It's a chore to completely fill in the sign-in information every couple of days (on the multiple devices and multiple profiles) to keep the data up to date.  There has to be a better way.

I brought this to the attention of Fitbit almost 2 years ago. You can see how interested they are because nothing has been done. It's not hard, other apps have long since done this type of thing.

After using a Fitbit  for a while and being a big fan I just purchased a FitBit for my 12yr old to help motivate him with exercise. What a shocker to find that the FitBit app tells him he is not eligable for an account. He was crushed. Absolute rubbish that FitBit are restrained by US law. My son has been online at school and a dozen different learning applications, quite legally since he was about 7. The user suggestion to enable a family FitBit account is an excellent idea. Other companies do it legally and there is no reason why FitBit cannot write the software that would enable a family account that allowed kids with parental/guardianship permission.  The only reason I can think of that would inhibit this is if FitBit are in fact selling or planning to sell on individual data. What a shame. FitBit goes back and the 3 other kids won't be encouraged to get one either 😞

Apple seemed to settle this child privacy issue with a shared family account for iTunes. The parent signs up with thier own Apple ID and then adds other members of thier family, including young kids to a shared family account. The kid accounts have privacy settings and they cannot purchase anything without parent permission verified by an email or text message. This helped us a lot when my 7 year old received an iPod for Christmas. She wanted to listen to her own music with my iTunes account, and use FaceTime with me when I am out of town. They shared family account makes the child thier own username to use on FaceTime and it is all privacy protected. I think Fitbit could use the same type of thing. One primary adult account with a joined family account with different levels of membership ranging from kid to adult. My 7 year old and 11 year old both just got Fitbits. I have had a few different fitbits over the years. I didn't know that they couldn't have a Fitbit account if they are under 13. To say the least, I am extremely disappointed. Fitbit ( and half of my family) is missing out.

We keep trying. I don't think anyone from Fitbit is actually reading this anymore.

Should I really switch to a third party solution to allow my 2 kids to track their steps and weight? Come on!

This option needs to be a top priority for Fitbit!

FITBIT,

Are you listening to us? It's been over a year now!!!!

YOU GUYS ARE MISSING THE POINT AND ARE WORRIED ABOUT THE WRONG THINGS!!!!

What difference does the age make? You are missing  the point all together. If I have an account why can't I add on or connect one to it? You don't have to worry if it's my child or not?  I should be able to go in and set up there account linked to mine.

Give me the option to "set up child account" or "add child account"!  THEN ask me my child's age.

You are losing the opportunity for those of us who want to purchase Fitbit for our kids or we are simply creating an account and lying about the age, which makes for invalid data.

Come on you guys are smarter and savvier than this.

When is the last time this thread was checked by someone in the tech department or has it ever?

Myself and my son both have Fitbit devices but only one iPhone app. In order to view our activities/stats as individual and separate profiles, we must set up two accounts and log in and out to toggle between the two. A way to toggle between users/profiles in one login would be ideal for us. I have read other comments whereby other customers have the same requirement, particularly adult-child users. Thanks!

While there are many overweight children in the world, there are also those that struggle with eating disorders and OCD tendencies (as well as adults).  I would like the ability to tie my children's accounts to my account (regardless of type of fitbit that they have) so that I can enable and disable features that are appropriate to the child.  One feature in particular that I'd like to disable is the calorie counter.  I've read several forums where there is no way to disable the calorie counter entirely (the BMR counter is always still active and visible on the device and on the phone app).  I'd really like to disable that feature.

I just bought my daughter a Fitbit for her 10th Birthday (yesterday). I try to setup the Fitbit and I can't, because she is too young. She was just diagnosed with early onset diabetes and frustrated about having to change her diet... but super excited about stepping and challenging her family using the Fitbit. But... we can't register her! She wants to be able to input water, and food, and see her exercise and sleeping patterns... but she can't because she can't register her Fitbit! Suggestions: Allow adults with verified birth dates to add children/devices onto their accounts and/or allow the children to be able to use a "watered down" Fitbit Kids app. I bought this gift awhile back and she was thrilled, it was one of her fave gifts and will really help with her new lifestyle changes she will have to make, but we need to be able to use it without LYING on her age and making her 3 years older than she is. Any ETA on when this may come about? From my internet research, seems like people have been asking about this for a couple of years now. Growth is money... just sayin'!

Sounds like a solid plan fitbit. A family plan would be amazing.

My daughter is 9 and a bit overweigh with 44 kgs. It's not a tragedy yet but the tendency is there. So far she was not much into sports so when I saw her interest in my Fitbit and her willingness to join - I was the happiest father in the world (at least for a brief moment 🙂 ).

My daughter is thrilled to follow my and my wife's steps in Fitbit Community. If not, she will join on herselfJawbone, Pebble or some other solution, this time out of my control... With Fitbit and family-based solution I could at least monitor and influence what she does with it.

So - carry on, Fitbit team! Others can do it. You can do it, too!

I have an 8 yr old and i created a Gmail family account for him, this way i am introducing him to email but also able to monitor and make sure its clean and safe. What i have in Apple is similar as it will ask me (parent) to authenticate any download and/or purchase in my apple id. once i approve he/she is able to get what they want. same way if i could log into my Fitbit and register my son/daughter using the the child email account, then its secure and within the law.

Also would recommend to introduce restrictions for sharing on social media, sharing user information and adding friends.

I understand that due to US law that Fibtbit cannot provide online accounts for minors, in this case, could you set up sub-accounts under a parents account that can transitioned to a separate account once the child reaches 13?

This could work like the Netflix child account where children do not have their owner username and password.

I'd really like to start creating a digital record of my childrens health as I think it will be useful for their future medical needs.

My 10 year old wants a forgot for her 11th birthday. I understand the safety issue but if Apple can create a family share thing so all my minor kids can use ipads then I'm sure you guys can create something for fit bit.

Block out the community feature until 13? Parent account must approve friends? Challenges have parents in them so everything is seen? If child receives a message it goes to the parent as well? Any message the child sends the parent sees?

This would be huge for you guys

OK... I bought a fitbit yesterday, my wife and two daughters bought one each today. My two daughters are 13 & 10. I've just found out my 10 year old can't have hers for three years? Back it goes to the shop for a refund and she'll be having a garmin. You're losing sales folks. People have been asking for family accounts for years judging by the posts here.

I would love the opportunity to set up a family account. And I think it would be nice to be able to set up two fitbits to one account too. I have the blaze and love to wear that on a day to day use but the idea to have a flex 2 to wear while I swim would be great.

Thanks for all your products and wonderful service.

Hi,

Today i received the Aria 2 scale and it's a really great device. After connecting it and doing a first weigh-in (yaiks), i wanted to invite our 6 year old son so he can also use it and we as parents can have a nice graph for this during the coming years.

But.... there's no way to create an account for a 6 year old. So this possibility is ruled out unfortunately Smiley Sad

I would like to see a possibility to create a subaccount (account under account) / kidsaccount under a parents account so we are able to track his weight and make weighing fun to him.

I think this would be a great feature on Fitbit.

Regards,

René

Pretty disappointing that fitbit is not listening.  I wonder how Garmin is doing it with the Star Wars devices designed for kids?
