API - Detecting REM sleep stage.

Looking at the API for the Alta HR.  If you wanted to try and buzz your Alta when you hit REM cycles for dreaming reasons, would this be possible.   It looks like the sleep log is created for each day.  If you wrote code that deleted the log when it detected rem sleep, and buzzed on this action, would this work?  My thought is it would delete the log when it detects rem sleep and auto create a new log, yah you would lose normal sleep log functionality but if all I care about is getting buzzed in REM would this work?  Or does the log not write until it detects you are awake?  If so is there a way to access the functions that detect and know when you are in REM?, that is then hitting the log. Or  could you bypass the log and just be calling the function that is checking the sleep stage?  I dont see anything in the API that would do that, but it would be sooo cool as you developers know.  I cant believe this function doesnt have more votes to get on the feature list for upcoming updates.
