Charge 3 NFC Capabilities

I want to get a special edition Charge 3 because it has an NFC chip and I want to start some Arduino projects that read a unique ID (fitbit hardware ID?) or some data from the NFC chip and trigger some actions... if I buy all the hardware I need and a Charge 3, will I be able to scan it and get some data to recognise myself from the fitbit device or is it locked down? For example: I want to get some fitbits at work and let everyone clock-in and clock-out by scanning their fitbit when they enter the office... Is that possible or can you update the API to support that?

The Charge 3 doesn't have an API. It doesn't run Fitbit OS.

I don't want to trigger actions on the fitbit, I want to trigger actions on my own software and hardware.

I just want to know if I hold the Charge 3 over my own NFC reader - will I be able to get a unique ID or some other data from it (MAC address?) or something I can identify the users with? Or will it not register and pick up the fitbit device on my own NFC reader at all?

I just tried it with my Ionic and the NFC reader on my phone and it was able to read the tag.

I would be interested to know if this is possible too! Using the NFC chip for custom applications would be amazing.

I have a charge 3, the special edition with nfc payment option. Not sure if the basic charge 3 will work .

Holding mine to my phone I get a code .

The watch shows as a :

Tag type: ISO 14443-4 NXP MIFARE Plus

Technology available: IsoDep, NfcA

Serial number:  27:5A:B3:27  *note I've changed that but you can see the format

HOWEVER ..    Each time you scan the fitbit  you get a different number  So it looks like it's an encrypted rolling code.. That means I don't think you'll be able to use it to identify someone. Bugger  That's what I wanted to to with it too

Anyone else has any luck with something like this ?
