How to switch between custom created clock face and stock faces

ANSWERED

I created a simple clock face and it appears on my watch.

But I'd like to be able to "keep" this custom face and also switch to use the other stock faces.

It seems like the custom face is "Locked" to my watch and the only way I was able to get back to use some stock faces was to delete the custom app from my "sideloaded" area in the developer bridge.

Ideally I would be able to create a few custom faces and be able to "keep" them and switch between using my custom faces and the stock ones that show on the Fitbit app.

Anyone know a way to do this?

Accepted Solutions

All the watchfaces you create will remain available to you in Fitbit Studio (unless you delete them from there). Swapping unpublished custom watchfaces requires you to reinstall them from Studio. Yes, it's cumbersome.

Another option would be to publish all your custom watchfaces to the Fitbit store. If they're accepted, you can then switch between them using the Fitbit app, and you won't have to use Studio. This approach cuts down the number of devices required to two (rather than three). But I agree that one would be better.

Sorry, it is not possible yet.

Only ONE watchface can be installed, no matter if it's a custom watchface or from store.

But you can create it as an app and the app stays on the screen until it's closed with the left button or programatically.
If you don't get the ontick event, just use the setInterval function.

I understand that only one clock face can "Show" on my ionic at any time.

My question is if I can "keep" the clockface I created (it shows under my dev area on my phone) but be able to switch to a "stock" clock for a while and then back to the one I created.

Make sense? Right now I have to completely delete the face I created in order to install a different clock face. I don't want to completely delete the custom face I made, just don't want it as my default all of the time.

It seems that the Fitbit OS of the Ionic only 'keep' one watchface at one time.
So if you want to change between your watchface and another one, you must declare your watchface as an app and start it like an app. That's the only way how it is possible to easily change between.

Fitbit OS is really new and there are not the same possibilities like for Garmin or Samsung with Tizen Wearable OS (which I'm experienced in). Fitbit Staff is working hard to implement all the missing features and the appstore itself - they have a long todo list, and one point should be: 'Switching watchfaces'.
For now you have just a workaround.

But you cannot do this only with your Ionic, you ever need your phone and a reliable connection, which is the hardest part in this case.

You can change also without the reviewing and confirmation process, because you can publish them as private. Then you'll get a private URL to install it.

How do you declare the watchface as an "app"?

Open the fitbit studio and your watchface project.

Then click on the package.json and on the combo field named 'Type'.

Change it from 'Clockface' to 'App'.

A further problem with my new clock face is when I load it and turn on the Ionic display (wrist flip or left button), what comes up is the charge level bar and percent, I have to push the left button to actually get the clock face. Is there some way to have my new debug face come up just like a stock clock face when I turn on the Ionic?

Never mind. I went thru a charging cycle for an hour and when I put the watch back on, my new clockface was coming up right away instead of the charging progress bar first. Apparently the Ionic was in some confused state.
