We are planning to conduct a research project based on gesture detection.
We are looking for the device from which we can read the raw sensor data (3-axis accel and gyro).
However the old thread said that we can get row data from the sensor.

Is this still valid, or can we use raw data from the sensors?
Then which device should we use? We now have a fitbit charge2.

You can get raw(ish) accel and gyro data from Ionic and Vera (but NOT Versa Lite) via the Device API. Getting it from there to anywhere else is possible, but hard.

Is it currently possible to obtain the raw accelerometry data for the fitbit charge 2 or 3, I need to know in regards of setting up a research study.

Those devices don't support the Device SDK, so unfortunately not. Device SDK supports Ionic, Versa, Versa Lite and Versa 2.
