Sense 2/Versa 4 new multitasking

On these new watches it seems that the Exercise or Today apps [and may be others] can now run at the same time as a clock face.

 

Does this mean that the internal OS is now fully multitasking, or that it based on Wear OS or even Wear OS?

 

Or have some apps now been written as System functions like Google Assistant, Quick Settings etc.
