Unable to install clock face

ANSWERED

Hi,

Bought a versa lite, created a small app in fitbit studio and wanted to install it. It works only in simulator without any problems. Unfortunately, in the fitbit app I am not able to install/select the app. It shows error saying I should have the latest update. Bought a versa lite yesterday, installed fitbit app yesterday still I need to update? I do not understand why the confusing error message is shown. Here is the message:

To install this clock, make sure that the Fibit app on your phone and your Fitbit device have the latest update. Learn more.

In the documentation it says if an update is available it would be visible in the Fitbit app else not, so I assume I have the latest version of the app.

Thanks for helping.

That's very strange! Your Fitbit app is up to date, so that shouldn't be the problem. Normally, when you first connect a new watch, it would check for a firmware update and install it automatically.

Versa Lite is a strange beast in that it doesn't have WiFi. This could mean that firmware updates may not be made available straight away; I think they're pushed through to the watch using Bluetooth (which is slower). There's a chance that leaving your watch connected via Bluetooth to your phone for a day or two (really!) might give it enough time for the firmware to make its way through, after which the Fitbit app should let you know about it.

If you're impatient, you could factory reset your watch and reconnect it, which should restart the firmware update process. However, there's a chance that this could create further delays since any update already partially downloaded may be ditched.

Samsung Galaxy S8+: Android 9

Here the error message:

Your watch firmware is out of date. It won't be able to run anything developed on a more recent SDK than 3.0.

The Fitbit app on your phone should be letting you know that there's a firmware update available.

Thanks for the info. The Fitbit app did not suggest any updates. I manually went to Help>Device>Check for Versa Lite update, it says Versa Lite is up to date!.

Thanks very much again. I have lot of patience, so I can wait. The only thing which bothers is that the error message does not tell which version is currently installed and which version needs to be installed. In such cases, the app should download/install right away when I manually check for updates.

Anyway, as you suggested, I would keep my phone and watch always together until the app suggests an update.

The update is probably trickling to your device. If you can't wait, you can factory reset and firmware update to the latest version. There's a specific issue with Versa Lite devices where it needs to be connected to a computer using USB while doing the update.

Finally the Fitbit app suggested for an update. Kept watch and the phone together all the time. Thank you.

How long does it usually take for the servers to recognize a pending update? Hours, days? My brand new charge 4 doesn’t show up with any update (ver 20001.94.13).

It can be a couple of days.

Note that you can't use Charge 4 for SDK development, which is what this forum section is about.
