Why is this limitation imposed? Seems rather arbitrary and without good purpose.
Is there a way to create a thicker arc besides creating two arcs side by side? I am trying to create a clockface that includes several 45px arcs and am unsure of the best way to implement this given the 31 px restriction

Unfortunately this is just a limitation of the rendering engine. It's a very resource constrained environment, so I'd imagine that has an impact. Perhaps you could have multiple arcs to simulate the effect?
