I am fairly certain that there is no speaker on the ionic. You could conceptually play a sound through bluetooth; but I don't believe there are any APIs that give you access to sounds/bluetooth audio or even the music section of the file system.

We don't currently have an audio API, but you can make a suggestion using the SDK label, here: https://community.fitbit.com/t5/Feature-Suggestions/idb-p/features/label-name/sdk/tab/most-kudoed

Does a basic BEEP sound option exist?
Playing an audio sound or issuing a frequency are different options.
The latter would be a useful addition/alternative to Vibrate.
As Vibrate is so weak on the Sense and Versa 3 we could use their speakers instead or as well.
So a BEEP with a frequency and duration could be very useful, and no codec needed.
