The Sense 2 is blatantly advertised as a "smartwatch". The definition of smartwatch, which I can find goes along these lines: "Simply put, a smartwatch does more [than a fitness tracker]. Apps, notifications, music control, microphones for phone calls, speakers, NFC, cellular connectivity, GPS, and touchscreens."
The Sense 2 does NOT have apps. It does NOT have music control. It does not even have WIFI (at least not enabled). In fact it does not even have the calendar, which is shown on your marketing materials.
How can you call this a smartwatch?
How can you remove such basic features from a product line. At least you could have called something else than Sense TWO. The word that comes to my mind is unsensible. I believe you can even trademark it.

@denmike2 I agree, perhaps it should be referred to as a smart fitness tracker or just an advanced fitness tracker.
The device other than the Sense 2 will be the upcoming Pixel watch. It's reported that this will be set up in the Fitbit app just like any other Fitbit.

While we wait for all of this to be answered , to push all these fix i suggest everyone to go in the feature suggestions and vote up everything you deem necessary , many folks have made feature requests for these missing features, and the more eyes and votes they get the bigger chances that Fitbit will address/ add the features and resolve them, or so they say

From my research on this product this is the top of the line fitbit model. This watch has every feature on all other models and more. The lack of third party apps in my estimation is the newness of the watch

@Statistician are you sure you are talking about Sense 2? Original Sense has currently more features and it has been already confirmed by Fitbit that apps, music controls and Google Assistant are not coming (feature suggestions closed as "not currently planned"). This watch is a stripped version of original Sense right now.

Don't kill the messenger @pabsurdy but there was never a single suggestion that once closed as not planned Fitbit then implement it.
For these particular cases (Google assistant, third part apps...) Fitbit has been really fast to close them. Also the fact that once the suggestion is closed the comments are also locked really means the topic is not open for discussion.
@Statistician the newness of the watch is irrelevant.

ye you are right , (for google assist, it truly was never included in the specs and features), but for the apps... i guess I'm just still in denial because it was advertised with those features and still is , so i was hoping this initial responses were due to lack of concrete information received yet. And wouldn't last past the launch of the pixel watch haha especially if the community kept pushing. Hopefully things are cleared up more officially than this, on the bright side for now they seem to have unlocked the request for the suggestion for 3rd party apps. so maybe they are discussing and reviewing this in the BG.

Music works the same as sense one. You can download Spotify and pandora in the downloads and then use a Bluetooth device ala wireless headphones etc.

In it's current state, I cannot justify calling it a smart watch.
It's a fitness band that does a few smart things (and those, not well)

@Statistician Please share the secret steps with us as none of us were able to download any music apps as you claim to have done. In fact there were no music controls at all on my wife's (now returned) Sense 2.
We eagerly await your tutorial.

Google is being short sighted here. None of this intentional downgrading of the fitbit line is going to increase pixel watch sales. Can anyone think of a reason other than boosting the pixel watch as to why they would downgrade the Sense/Versa? I'm an iphone user, but love fitbit for the battery life and sleep tracking, but Google seems to be seceding that ground to apple. I guess I'm going to have no choice but to get an apple watch now.

Even to be a tracker, Sense 2 cannot do this job well.
Big chunk just makes us the users look stupid.
If I really like a tracker, I will no doubt buy Charge 5. I never imagine that I upgrade from Charge 4 to Sense 2 which just trap me down here.

The thing is that no-one who is in the market for the Sense 2 will change for the pixel watch for at least two reasons: Price and battery life.
My guess as to why the Sense 2 is a crippled product is lack of priority and therefore lack of development resources (staff). I can't quite figure out if the Sense 2 runs a new version of fitbit OS, which has deviated so much that the old developer API is no longer compatible or just needs some small tweaks. It is also possible that the new OS eats up so much storage that additional apps (apart from the planned google maps and wallet apps) will have no space available. This is all pure speculation from my side.
HOWEVER: The lack of communication from fitbit's side clearly indicates that this is a dead product that does not have any priority within the organization. It's sad, because on paper (and in their sales material) it looks like a great product ("install hundreds of apps").
At the moment it sadly feels like one big scam 😞

I think you are posting in the wrong product forum and have a different watch because Sense 2 is unable to do all of that:
1) no music apps (neither Spotify nor Pandora)
2) no 3rd-party apps at all
3) no way to pair wireless headphones with Sense 2 (there is no such option in Settings as it was on Sense)

@t.parker I think @Statistician thinks the more he says these things, the more they might actually be true. Unfortunately he's living in nothing but a dream world. Quite clearly hasn't used the device, although can we blame him for being confused considering the response we've had from Fitbit. Just another user suckered in by lies and deceit.

Here is another reason and it is borrowed from an article written about the Stadia killing:
"Google knows next to nothing about most of its products these days and no one trusted them to keep it alive longer than a year or two. It really is that simple: No one trusts Google. It has exhibited such poor understanding of what people want, need, and will pay for that at this point, people are wary of investing in even its more popular products.
Because while people will happily drop a couple bucks here and there for a Google service, no one is going to pay hundreds for something they have a sneaky feeling is going to be completely worthless in short order."
