Missing sleep data appears after time edited

This is odd.  Periodically my sleep data is missing for the first couple of hours of sleep.  I've come to expect that, so I just edit the time and put in my estimate of when I fell asleep.  At least the times are more accurate.  Sometimes bits of the missing data appear, other times they remain lost.  Today I edited my sleep time, and lo and behold, it suddenly "remembered" that the time during which they thought I had not even been sleeping was actually mostly deep sleep, with a little bit of light sleep mixed in.   If it has this data, then why does it not display it from the start?  Why do I have to tell it I was sleeping before it says, "oh yah, you were in deep sleep then?"  Clearly a bug, and one that should not be hard to track down, given that it IS collecting the data.  It just doesn't report it.

Hi @sgbednar. Welcome to the Fitbit Community forums.

Thank you for sharing this information about the inconvenience you've been experiencing with the Sense 2.

Before considering other options, please keep in mind that there are some factors that may prevent your tracker from recording your sleep. Please make sure of the following:

  • If you slept in a position that prevented your device from getting a consistent heart-rate reading or wore it too loosely. For best results, wear your device as described in this help article.
  • If you slept for less than 1 hour for sleep patterns or less than 3 hours for sleep stages.
  • If your device’s battery is critically low.

If you haven't done so already, please try to complete a restart procedure following the steps listed here below:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press and hold the button for 10 seconds until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen, and then release the button.

In addition, please wear your device on your non-dominant hand and monitor it for the next few days.

Been there.  Done that.  The watch is collecting the data, it just doesn't always display it.

As for restarting, I know better than to try that at this point   It will hang until the battery runs down, then die.  I'm limping along as best as I can until I am able to replace the device.  It is so buggy as to be nearly unusable.
