No pulse oximetry

For a top tier leader in fitness trackers, I don't it very disappointing that the Sense 2 can't do some of the basic things a $30 generic tracker can. No pulse oximetry reading unless you are asleep?? I mean what's the point of even having it then if you can't check it in real time. And for some reason I can't find a good watch face with the key basics of what I need displayed. Then again a basic $30 tracker can. I bought The Sense 2 expecting the best of the best for what I am paying. I am on the verge of returning this and going back to a $25 generic

Yea it sucks that it only does it while you're asleep. It's just the stance Fitbit has taken. Who knows why. Legal liability? Low confidence in their hardware? In any case it doesn't bode well for Fitbit since so many other brands including reputable ones like Samsung and Apple let you take readings anytime, even while you're asleep.

What do you need in a watch face? Maybe some of the folks here could recommend you.

I had the exact same issue with the watch faces but i did not complain about it since there are already so many more issues.

What was missing for me was a good looking face that shows like the following example from my old Xiaomi band.

Currently that is the way it is for all fitbit trackers that have SpO2.

Fitbit says this feature will be released with a future update.

Be aware that this feature uses 2 more LEDs. Almost tripling the power drain.

Rich,

Do you think in general that many of the basic features missing could be related to the fact that they would kill the sense 2 battery life like?

  • wifi (not a major deal on that one, granted)
  • Google map integration
  • Google Calendar integration
  • Phone music control
  • 3rd party apps
  • SpO2 monitoring on demand
  • Answer phone calls on the watch

Oxygen saturation is the proportion of blood cells that carry oxygen, and is approximately constant regardless of respiratory rate. It is a measurement of how much of the oxygen binding ability of hemoglobin(the red blood cells)) has been utilized.

Oxygen saturation at night is much more interesting. If you have significantly lower average levels at night, it could be a sign of illness (sleep apnea).

Normal values:

97 – 100         Normal younger persons

95 – 97                       Sleeping younger, awake older persons

93                    Lowest normal value

90                    Mild respiratory failure – requires oxygen

85                    Respiratory failure - hospitalization

@Patrick421 please tag me if you want to address me.

  • As for WiFi, it isn't needed if we can't download music, simply because it was only needed to transfer music.
  • The watch only connected to WiFi while charging. At this time it checked for app and music updates. WiFi was also used for firmware updates. Now that the updates get transferred in the background, is WiFi needed?
  • Google assistant, can't say, since the latest Google Pixel watch doesn't have Assistant..
  • Agenda, Calendar is nice, and I hope it gets added.
  • SpO2 on demand, supposedly will be released in a future update, better yet, while exercising would be great.
  • Google map integration, this is one of the Google goodies promised for fitbit.
  • Answering the phone, this should have been a no brainer
  • 3rd Party Apps, I have my doubts.
  • Music control, I use this to pause music, videos, and as a remote shutter for the camera app.

Since the Sense 2 has an interface that is more in line with the Pixel and uses a different OS, I'm hoping Fitbit is watching for any unforeseen issues before adding the missing functions.

How about Snore detect, water input, customize the double tap of the button, and the cover the display to turn of the screen.

@Rich_Laue SpO2 during exercising is difficult to get because to read SpO2 you need to be still. Garmin does that (it has modes for manual, night, all-day which includes during activity) and there are plenty of missing data points because of movement. However, SpO2 used like that can be used for two things: recovery and altitude acclimation. For mountaineers and hikers this is probably more interesting use of SpO2. Recently,  being in Switzerland I used that to plan my runs in the mountains. Better acclimation led to better performance and further runs.

I think it would be better if Fitbit introduced equivalent of Garmin's Health Snapshot which allows to take all the readings in one go (like HRV, stress, SpO2) and save it as a timestamped snapshot. But that would require Fitbit to actually add feature and so far they specialize in taking features out.

Google Assistant is very much present in Pixel Watch, maybe you meant something else?

Interesting, everything I had read was that they left it out.

FYI. The most recent update brought voice calling and cover the display to turn off.

But what's the point of adding all this if not even they manage to release an update to correct the inaccuracies and bugs of the sense e versa 3 line

Even my first generation apple watch can get more accurate readings than the fitbit sense and its sensor they are so proud of

Failure!

So I'm looking for time, date, steps, heart rate, calories, distance, and pulse oximetry. I found a basic one with date, time, HR, steps, O2 but the O2 is pointless because why do I need to know at any given moment what my O2 was 12 hours ago when I was asleep.

As for another issue I'm having, do any of y'all have any problems with syncing? So I don't see my stats carrying over into Google Fit. And even after manually syncing on the Fitbit app it doesn't seem to carry over the steps. I already have that health connect app setup. Or whatever it's called anyways

It's not like I'm looking for constant pulse oximetry, which would be useful for training, but I am looking for an on-demand pulse ox. So for me tripling the power drain for 10 seconds maybe once every few hours wouldn't be so bad.

Personally I don't need some high level smartwatch. But a really good fitness tracker with some of the basic common features would be great. But for the price tag of $300 and fitbit's name behind it I guess I just would have expected more.

This was my first Fitbit ever too after always wanting to get one. I'm giving it maybe another week before I make my decision to return it.

It was only left out of the other ones, but not Google's pixel watch. I think the others may get it added back in the future though.
