Sense 2 - Fix for Exercise App Crashing when Fitbit App Performs Sync Operation

Hi All,

I wanted to share this solution (credit to the Youtuber who posted it - "Enigma Studios Production", Fitbit Sense 2: Exercise App Crash Fix) as it solved a problem that I was having.  I have not posted a direct link as I'm unsure of the forum's policy on 3rd party links.

The problem started after I decided to factory reset my device to see if it would assist with possibly getting the new Sense 2 firmware to push.  I tried numerous troubleshooting steps, including multiple resets / reboots / app reconfigurations / etc. with no solution.

I am using an Android Device

PROBLEM: If I start any exercise in the app and let it begin to track it will crash and return to the clock screen if the Fitbit app starts and completes a synchronization routine during its automated interval or if you manually force it.  NOTE: this problem is extremely reproducable and consistent for those who experience it.

SOLUTION:

  1. Factory Reset your Sense 2 (Settings -> About Sense 2 -> Factory Reset)
  2. Wait for the Sense 2 to reboot and get to the language selection menu
  3. Select "English"
  4. Hold the side button down continuously (approx. 30 seconds), including during the flashing fitbit logo, until you see a red "X" then release
  5. Wait for the Sense 2 to get to the language selection menu again
  6. Select "English"
  7. Hold the side button down until the screen goes black (~5-10 seconds) then release
  8. Once the device returns back to the language menu, set up the device again as usual from the fitbit app.

My device rebooted a number of times after re-linking it with the fitbit app but once the reboots stopped the problem went away. (I did shut down my Sense 2 after a few of the reboot cycles, unsure if this stopped the reboots or it was coincidence)

NOTE: As Fitbit generally does not recommend a factory reset without their guidance I would advise people to use this solution at their own risk.  I am unsure if this process will break anything else. Given that my problem started after my device was factory reset, the fix was welcome as anything that process may have done had already happened.
