I have the new sense 2, when I swipe or exercise and then click on walk I see the circle go around the walk icon I am never prompted for GPS it’s supposed to have a GPS automatically but a rep from Fitbit said I should be seeing a prompt for GPS. Regardless when I go for a walk and then click and at the end of the walk later I should see the map of my walk appearing in my Fitbit app it is not there. Why? I have everything enabled. I have logged out of my app I have shut down the app and restarted and logged back in I have removed the Sense 2 and reconnected. The only thing I haven’t done yet is a hard reset on the sense 2. Is there anyone else having this problem with the map not appearing?

I was just told through a Fitbit chat session that the only way to have GPS is to manually enable it for every walk. Or there is some way to have your phone’s GPS do the work, but I did not understand it (maybe opening the app). After my Versa 3 I find this disappointing to the point of considering a return. I am told the same battery saving feature is on the Versa 4 with no way to override it. I’m hoping for a software update or maybe I’ll be switching brands. Frustrating.

Go to the Exercise app (press the button, select Exercise), scroll to Run/Walk, tap the exercise and swipe up for settings. Scroll the settings until you see the GPS. Make sure it's enabled. As far as I remember (I don't use automatic tracking) Sense 2 just asks whether to start tracking exercises but not about the GPS. It uses a GPS setting that is currently set for a particular activity in the Exercise app.

Thanks for the reply, but "Sense 2 just asks whether to start tracking exercises but not about the GPS. It uses a GPS setting that is currently set for a particular activity in the Exercise app." - If that is the case then 1) my Fitbit support rep was confused because he said to look for GPS prompt. 2) If the GPS is automatic - then I guess my question should be more directed as to why a map of my trek is not appearing in my Fitbit app as it did when I wore Sense (1).

You didn't mention whether the GPS for the actual exercise is on:
If it's off then you won't get the map. If it's off then the only thing I can think of is that GPS can't connect. I don't have any other ideas.

It doesn't stay up long enough to make any selection such as set or a goal. Let alone turn on gps.
---------------
I can't get it to work either. None of the suggestions work for me.

Swipe left to display the exercise.
Don't tap one of the 3 circles, these are for quick start.
Tap all
Tap the desired exercise.
Scroll up to GPS

It's one of those features which has been removed on Sense 2 in Europe might be different in North America.
Been trying to get Map tracking back since first got sense 2 in November.
Turning the GPS on just turns auto tracking on/off when walking or running.
It does not provide you the Map on the app which was linked to heart rate and altitude as you moved around route the map.
I found this on the sense one of most useful features as could track progress of heart rate around same route or routes.
You can turn on tracking on phone app under exercise cog top right, but this doesn't log / link your heart rate to map and isn't much use.

The idea of tracking with the phone is when the fitbit is not on your arm. This is why heart rate will not be reccorded.
For auto tracking, there are two places to look. On the fitbit app and the tracker. Note that every one turned on adds a little more processing load.
On the app, tap the exercise tile, then the settings cog. From here exercises can be disabled or minimum time required changed.
For a few exercise, walk, run, bike the setting to disable is on your tracker.
We also have a setting to enable/disable GPS. This does not affect the auto start of the auto start.
With autostarr, GPS will not be turned on until after the minimum time has past. Your run time should then be detected for the start of the run.
No phone is needed for GPS since the Sense 2 has GPS hardware

Indeed. The default ought to be in line with its immediate predecessor. Having the option to disable the nap portion (to save battery or whatever other reqson) is nice, but that shouldn't be the default. It should give the option upon going to start a parambulatory exercise recording for first time. I just went on a ~3mile walk that has no map record of it, aside from the first ~half a milenI did from my oh one's Fitbit app (to compare distance to watch) whixh I stopped due to low battery on my phone at the time (and was using Tractive app simultaneously, ti locate my hounds, which took precedence).

My experience disagrees @ClueB
On the tracker
Tap the button once
Swipe to exercise
Tap the eaxercise (walk)
Swipe to GPS, tap the dot to enable ( this setting should save, and eve tapping quick start, turns on GPS)
Enable walk detect and Auto Stop
Now let's open the Fitbit app
Tap exercise - Tap settings
Set the minimum walk time needed before walk recording auto turns on.

Sense 2 user for the past 2 months and just noticed today (playing around with the S2) that when selecting “Hike” the GPS connects, automatically. I was curious because I was selecting “Walk”, except yesterday, I must have accidentally tapped the Hike icon; the map showed up later when syncing to the phone app. The map is nice because it shows elevation and other details.

(will update later when more experience with Hike and map)

Honestly Rich, I read your post earlier and those instructions are very general and ambiguous and apparently do not apply to the Sense 2.
Have a nice day,
No follow up necessary.
