Sense 2 charger

It appears one of the pins is no longer connecting. I've read other posts w/similar issues.

This is less than a year old. Am I covered under warranty or do I have to

out and buy a new charger?

I have had the same problems, and it's not limited to the genuine Fitbit charging cable. The original cable was too short to be of much use, so i bought an aftermarket cable with a longer cord, and one pin stopped popping out, and it seemed that the spring behind it, had broken. I tried a charging dock, but the same thing with that one as well. Last time I bought a few, and each one didn't last much longer than a month, so I gave up on after market cables, and I taped an extension cord to the table, and plugged the genuine Fitbit cable into a USB adapter into it, and the Fitbit one into that, and I wasn't surprised when the same thing happened to that one as well. I had also found that with the Fitbit cable, my Sense 2 kept on complaining that it was charging too slow, but with the aftermarket cable, with the same setup, never complained.

I tried to dismantle one of the cables, in the hopes that I could repair it myself, which I could easily do, if of course I could dismantle the cable without breaking the thing.

Fitbit in their wisdom chose such a poorly designed charging system for what was their flagship model, which has let their quality control down, but the worst part is that they have let their customers down, by supplying such a poorly designed, and poorly made watch.

I can't understand why Fitbit didn't design the charging system with the contactless charging like almost every other smart watch maker, and many other things as well. If everyone else is doing it, that means that it works.

Hey Fitbit... if you're reading this, can you send me some cables under warranty please it's costing me too much to buy new cables every couple months. And while you're at it, how about you redesign the contacts on the cable so they stop breaking. Or, maybe I might do some redesigning myself. I can't see why a drop of superglue into the pins can hurt my watch.

My wife had had a lot of trouble with her Fitbits, as they kept breaking, and we were sick of sending them back, so she got herself a Samsung watch, and she's been very happy ever since, and I'm starting to think it might be what I'm considering for my next watch purchase.

If you are handy with a soldering iron Mouser Electronics has replacement contact pins.

Thanks 👍

I used to be very handy, but these days not so much, at least until I can save enough for a new pair of specs.  I had tried to pull apart some aftermarket cables, and found that they were too hard to avoid damaging them, especially the ones integrated into a stand. They seemed to be designed to break if tampered with. I hadn't tried a genuine cable, just in case Fitbit decided to replace them, and wanted me to return the bad ones

Ok, I just pulled apart a genuine cable, and it's easy to do, and it seems that it won't be hard to fix, although the wires from the cable are glued on, and are very easy to come off.

Now that I see how easy to pull it apart, I'm debating whether I should get some new pins, which leaves me wondering how long they will last. Another idea floating around in my head is maybe scrap the spring loaded pins, or replace them with some copper wire of the same length, and gauge. They won't spring back, but if I get the length right, they won't need to.

Sorry, I tend to ramble, and write an essay lol.

Thanks for your help, I'm thinking of getting another cable, and trying one with the spring loaded pins, and the other with the wire, and see how each works.

Cheers mate,

Steven.

I don't remember which contact pin I ordered, it's one of these measure the dimensions on the pin for the correct size.  The 20 or so chargers (FitBit and chinese knockoffs) I repaired for friends so far are all functioning without any issues.  I used 62/36/2 solder at 640 degrees.  Glued the case back together with Dow 3145 RTV

https://www.mouser.com/c/?q=spring%20loaded%20pins

https://www.ellsworth.com/products/adhesives/silicone/dow-3145-silicone-adhesive-clear-305-ml-cartri...  We have this RTV in the hanger. Insanely strong. Keeps the Super King Air flying.

As for warranty, it's long out of warranty.
