Sense 2 counting steps when cycling

I am wondering if there is a way to stop or avoid sense 2 from counting steps when I am spinning. I am exercising and have sense to set to spinning. But after I get the results from spinning but also it has steps as well. Is there any way to stop this?

Hello, @Dadofshawn, and welcome to the Fitbit Community.

Thanks for letting me know about this situation in regards to the step count while cycling using your Sense 2.

The situation is that Fitbit devices in general use a 3-axis accelerometer to count your steps. This sensor also allows your device to determine the frequency, duration, intensity, and patterns of your movement. This means that if you move your hands while cycling or if you wear your Sense 2 too loose and creates movement, the steps will be counted.

I recommend you to check you're wearing the Sense 2 correctly the next time you use it and do a restart before, I am positive this will improve the situation.

@Dadofshawn no, there is no way. All Fitbits detect steps regardless of the activity you track. They will count steps for cycling (bumpy ride will produce more steps), and swimming (strokes being recognized as steps). There is no fancy conversion algorithm here to count steps but simply random wrist movements (on the UK countryside roads I get thousands of steps, which speaks of the quality of our roads 😂) are producing bogus steps. Can't do anything about that, it's by Fitbit design.
