Sense 2 overtracking floors

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Sense 2 watch is overtracking floors and has been for some time. Along with other issues I am experiencing it is becoming more and more unreliable and losing my trust in accuracy. I checked and my watch and app are on the newest versions, no updates available.

Hi @corcellit ! It’s nice to see you around!

I'm sorry to hear that your Sense 2 is tracking extra floors.

Fitbit devices detect floors with an altimeter, which is a sensor that calculates altitude based on atmospheric pressure. Your Sense 2 is designed to detect pressure changes based on elevation gain, but other types of pressure changes—such as a gust of wind, a weather change, or opening a door—can occasionally cause your device to register extra floors.

If you climb stairs taller than 10 feet your floor count on your Sense 2 will doesn't match since your Fitbit regiter 1 floor in every 10 feet.

In the meantime, please try a restart by pressing the button until the Fitbit logo appears on the screen.

I live in  2 story house with a basement, bedrooms up stairs, so obviously I do the stairs a few times each day, but it is rare for my FitBit sense2 to register stairs, maybe 2/week.

I am handicapped, so I go up the stairs slowly, using the railing, and I may be carrying something, so my arms are not waving in the air.  Therefore the watch isn't noting my movements.  It also doesn't register steps if I am pushing a cart in a store with my left hand, but picking up items with my right hand.

However, 2 weeks ago, it was so windy that it was hard to get the car door open to get out. Then I walked about 10 feet until I was sheltered from the wind.  Over the course of about 3 hours, both in my home, at the event I attended, and then back home, my Sense 2 says I got 8 floors, some of them two stories.  I was never ever on anything but the ground floor.

I've also been keeping track of some very minor "activities" that the Sense 2 claims are STEPS but I'm sitting the whole time. Details some other time.

In short: FLOORS register air movements past the watch.  STEPS register activities done by the arm/wrist the watch is worn on.
